I can get behind Red LobstersRed Lobsters. Team up with the restaurant.
All you can eat hush puppies. Serving nothing but lobster rolls throughout CA.
Plastic bibs for the first 100 who enter. Who wouldn't love an oversized lobster mascot running around.
I would take any of the following (in no particular order):
1. Red Sea — it is biblical and Pitino is SJU’s Moses.
2. Redbirds — I know it is taken already, but it is a tribute to the old red NYC subway cars.
3. Red Coats — Embrace being the college basketball enemy. Before each game have a guy run out on the floor yelling “The Red Coats are coming”.
4. Red Johnnies — Fans chant “Let’s Go Johnnies” already.
5. Red Ferrari — Everyone loves a red Ferrari.
6. Redrum — Have the player introductions lead off with the line “Here’s Johnny”.
As bad as it is, yes.But would you take Red Storm over just Red?
The only thing I will argue is the school needs to incorporate the entire city, something like Red Boroughs.I always thought it should've been the Red Royals
easy connection to our brooklyn roots (Kings County) and of course Queens County.

2. Subway buff?. I do like how you tied it in.I would take any of the following (in no particular order):

4. I like Johnnies as a secondary nickname but not as the official one.
Would this be just for the basketball team or all sports?
Could see a problem with the Women’s sport.
To your point though fans chant “Let’s go Johnnies” and the old traditional “We Are
St. John’s” and no one is chatting anything about “Red Storm” (I think I might have
heard a “Go Storm” chant once or twice) is telling and speaks volumes even if it is
printed on the basketball court.
Probably my least liked nickname, no imagination whatsoever. The subway is a quintessential NYC thing.
And as far as Johnnies being a problem with the woman’s sports, tell that to the men’s sports at St. Bonaventure. They are the Bonnies.
The school is adamant about keeping red in the name.Drop the red, we can see that in their uniforms. Just go with the Johnies. I proposed that five years ago and was broadly chastised, but I have big shoulders and are coming back for more.
you just became sju85's favorite posterI hope Father Shanley can understand that the Red Storm name has been a total flop, and has never been accepted by anyone. Announcers don't even call us Red Storm. I've never even heard anyone refer to the team as the Red Storm. I totally get that a rebrand is costly, but it's not like the Red Storm wording or logo is used anywhere on the uniforms or advertising. If my vote counts for anything, I love tying the NYC subway into it some way, because as mentioned, that's an iconic symbol of NYC.
I am sure he does. Fr. Shanley is very in tune with the program.I hope Father Shanley can understand that the Red Storm name has been a total flop, and has never been accepted by anyone.
