Let’s get a game at Miami for us S. Fl residents. Had a nice turnout at the GT game there in Miami during the Mullin years.
I would definitely be at that game!

Adam,

Here are two suggestions for next year's OOC schedule. Iona in MSG and Davidson down here in beautiful Davidson NC. Davidson will have 4 of its 5 starters back from an excellent team and a road win against them would be an NET feather in our cap. RedStormNC & I would be happy to arrange a social gathering in King Canary BrewPub the night before & Belk arena is a fun place to see a game. Davidson & SJU couldn't be more of a contrast in styles & would be an entertaining game for sure. If anyone has an in & can plant this as a possibility with the powers that be would be greatly appreciated by us North Carolinians lol!
Just a thought.

Yes, great state. I lived in NC (Charlotte and Raleigh) for 10 years before moving to NYC for an MBA at St. John's. I'd definitely like to see them play Davidson (or any of the 4 ACC teams). I miss our Duke games.

Iona would be a great game with a local rival and an opportunity to change the narrative about Pitino/Iona. They've already owned it for 2 years now, having made the Tournament last year and on track for another appearance this year, so we have nothing to lose. Seton Hall wasn't scared to play them this year, so there's no reason St. John's should be. Let's be aggressive and not shy away from opponents next year. Syracuse shying away from us certainly hasn't helped them. Local rivalries are great/necessary in all sports.

Also North Carolina has great food. Which is what matters, of course.

Guys, I just saw this.

NCJohnnie is buying at a brew pub for all of us if we schedule Davidson next year! I guess we'll have to find our own lodging, but what the heck free beer and all the food you can eat!

After our big (but close) win today we should move from #90 to somewhere in the low to mid 80s tomorrow. I'll guess #84. Would potentially be our highest placement of the year.

We've moved up 3 spots to #87. A little worse than I expected, but the score was extremely close and margins have a huge impact. It's progress, though, and may be our highest ranking of the year. Massive opportunities this week!

Also, Butler dropped to #135 which is exactly the Q2 (away) cutoff, so for now they remain a Q2 win.

we are going to have to win some games we r supposed to loose. Tough task, but doable. Home court helps w UCONN and Nova. But like another poster says, I hope we can get more fans then UCONN , Nova fans also turn out well. Both have a lot of alumni working in NYC  .
we will have plenty of  opportunities to bring up our Net. Soriano and wheeler r really gelling. Let’s hope Posh is ok.

Yes we'd likely need to pull off an upset or two to make the Tournament, along with winning pretty much all of the games we'll be favored in. The good news is we'll only be minor underdogs (or favored) in nearly every remaining game.

If the team finishes as Vegas expects them to (4-4 I'd think) then we may get into the NIT at least. One game at a time, beating Nova would change things dramatically.

Early NET update- Johnnies move up another spot to #86.

This weekend was TERRIBLE for teams on the wrong side of the bubble, so every bit helps.

If the NET rankings are not in our favor at the end of the regular season, there’s always running the table at the Garden. Heck Georgetown did it last year, so anything is possible. /media/kunena/emoticons/blink.png

When was the last time we made the BET finals and when was the last time we won? How many BETs have we won in its history? I would guess 3 maybe 4?

Edit: checked, we've won 3. Last 22 years ago.

Our NET stayed at #88 after Nova loss.

I dont follow it too closely but at this point into conference seasons for all schools, its really amazing to see the schools above us

Just a few examples, and there are more

Murray St. #27
Wyoming #28
Boise St  # 32
Chattanooga #59
Iona # 67
Toledo #70
Towson #87

St. John's (#90) beating Xavier (#20) by 13 on the road should obviously help our NET quite a bit. I'd guess 10-15 spots.

Unfortunately I think it's too late to make the Tournament (unless we win out or only lose one game), but the NIT is a possibility if we finish strong.

In the highly unlikely event that they win the next 6 the 7th would be a play in game.  That would be the BE semis.

Also, Pitt with a huge win last night jumped up 20 spots, so they are no longer a Q4 loss, it goes to a Q3 loss.  So, still a bad loss but not as bad.

Winning at least the next 4 or 5 would be huge.  Two Q2 opportunities and Two Q1 opportunities.  Butler would be a Q3 loss, so absolutely need to win that game. Any of the other games you could lose one of those and it wouldn't hurt NET that bad, even @DePaul is a Q2 game, so losing that wouldn't be considered a "bad loss."

That’s a really nice jump. 13 point win on the road against a team with good metrics is definitely what the doctor ordered. That being said I need to see them beat both Butler & Creighton at home in these next two before I’m ready to start talking about their path to a tourney birth. Beat Butler then take that nice 5 day break before Creighton to get everyone some needed rest & recovery time before the home stretch.

A frustrating aspect of this season has been that it feels a bit like the opposite of past recent seasons. In the recent past we’ve been able to steal a big, unexpected win or two against Nova, Duke, etc but then would blow our chance by losing to a bad DePaul team, blowing a late lead against a not good Butler team, etc. This season (outside of the No Champ Pitt debacle) they’ve mostly taken care of business against the beatable teams but are just completely unable to get over the hump against some of these better teams. Going 0-6 against Nova/Prov/UConn was just crushing.

The NET is BS and KenPom is even worse.
They matter anyway, but if you watch basketball and then you look at the rankings, enough of the rankings are just flat stupid that it calls their talismanic status into serious question.
