nd game

Just got back from the Garden and let me just say it was a great game to be at. I got a little nervous there in the final minutes, but what a fantastic job by our players in regaining their composure and fighting back. They took a punch on the jaw and came right back. Hold your heads up high tonight guys!

Maybe this will be a win that pushes us into the right direction? Maybe this does more for our psyche than that Cincy win did?

Obviously we'll have to wait and see, but it was nice to see the squad become more aggressive on offense even without Harrison carrying the load.

Dom shooting with confidence? Jakarr picking up the slack? Branch too? I like it.

The odd thing is, Cooley only had 3 fouls. That's being "in" foul trouble for sure, but down the stretch what the hell was Brey thinking? Last 3 or 4 mins he's got be in the game.

Tonight they looked comfortable and confident taking shots.
Branch ran the offense well and although he short armed a few tear drops, I liked the aggressive approach. We should have continue attacking instead of reverting to the weave (allowed them back in game)
Was very glad to see Jones get some PT. I like him and don't want to give up on him.
Greene semed to thrive without the added responsibility.

Lets hope we use game as confidence builder and springboard.

What happened with Cooley? I was at the game. didn't know what happened to him.

Nothing happened to him.

Picked up 2 early first half fouls and Brey sat him.

He made a foul on an Amir post up in the 2nd half (which I thought was an offensive foul on Amir) for his 3rd foul and Brey sat him for the est of the game.

Their best player regardless how slow-footed he is. You don't sit him like that. I can only think that Brey was trying to prove some stupid point or send a message. Idiotic on his behalf.

I don't think D'Angelo blocks Knight's shot if it was Cooley instead.

Agree that Amir got away with what looked like an obvious offensive foul. Couldn't believe that he, not Cooley, got the call, but will certainly take it. Had a big impact on the game's outcome.

If it's the play that I hink you're referring to, Cooley was holding on to Amir's arm and Amir tried to push him off. I think it was the right call.

Mea culpa on Pointer's jumper. I've criticized his release on his jumper before, but tonight he hit something like 4 out of 5 jumpers this game. He's making me eat my words.

I also loved Sampson's hustle play to go for that seemingly out of bounds ball that was an errant pass by the ND player.

In addition to his usual tough defense, Pointer has really picked up his offensive game, averaging 9+ ppg over the last three games. If he can continue to score at that pace (on .667% shooting, no less), it would be huge for us as we go forward.

Was sitting behind the ND bench and real surprised Cooley didnt get back in the game. My guess is Brey was sticking with the lineup that went on an 18-4 run (i was thinking "here we go again"). Cooley seemed not to even be involved/attentive during the timeouts at the end. Anyway- good news for us, hopefully he plays against the rest of the Big East and makes this win look even better for the Jonnies.

Loved the fact D'Lo stayed involved in the game, i tend to think on nights he's not scoring, he kinda checks out and just goes through the motions. That 3 and block at the end (pinned it with 2 hands!!!) were HUGGGEEE! Real proud of the kids tonight. Good to see Cjones back on the floor. I have been wanting to see Marco play more, but please not in the final 20 seconds when hes sat the entire half, understand putting him in to shoot FT, but dont have him in bound the ball! He's not in the flow of the game and that's where poor decisions are made, luckily we had a timeout left.

Good bounce back game for Phil, solid effort by Amir/Dom. Like the Offense/Defense subbing of Obekpa at the end (its basically 4 on 5 when he's in the game on offense). Team should be proud tonight.

Maturation game for D'Angelo. Last year he would have come out chucking in the 2nd half. Starting to gain more confidence that Branch is the pg we've been waiting for, still a ways to go though. Should not have taken this long to figure out that Branch at pg allows Greene to be more useful in his natural role off the ball. Very pleased with the response after Gtown, 4 winnable games coming up need to show some consistency.

I'll defer to you ... apparently that's why the whistle was blown. But Amir's reaction -- forcefully pushing him off -- was so obvious, it really looked like he got away with one. Either way, glad it went our way.

An awesome Win! The crowd was into it. We sure needed it!
They played an excellent game. Great the way they rebounded after blowing a 12 point lead and falling behind late in the 2nd half!
WOW

Nice to meet you tonight Boss, hopefully we'll have a few more good ones to celebrate this season.

Glad Branch is getting a lot more playing time; didn't like the floater at the end, but everything else was great.

Good to see D'Lo take a few less shots for the betterment of the team; had some sweet passes too.

Great win for the team morale, especially after losing the big lead. Seeing some fight after they got down really gets you pumped about their potential, but let's see if we can string together a few before getting too excited.

Dee was a little too tentative tonight honestly. Especially down the stretch. Him getting to the line would have eased the tension down the stretch.

Team chemistry tonight was as good as I've seen. Dee is used to carrying the offense and me thinks he was just trying to get comfortable sharing the ball more. There were a few times towards tail end of game that I also thought he could have been more aggressive, but he seemed to be erring on the side of caution. Think we'd be a much better team with Dee averaging around 15 per game and with everyone staying in the flow as they did tonight. Hopefully we can build upon this win.

Bottom line the others were hitting shots. If they werent you would have seen him force it more. He played within himself I just think down the stretch I would have less gray hairs if he was holding the ball more.

Agree, but they were hitting their shots because the ball was being worked around and they were getting good looks. Very few forced shots tonight. Nice to see.

Cooley is very chippy. Looked to throw elbows.

Very good win by a team that is young and improving. Bobby Knight of 900 plus wins was very informative in the color commentary. He liked Pointer's game and liked St John's defense and intensity throughout the game especially when ND went on their run and the Johnnie's responded. Quite a bit of a different take to Lavin's coaching than heard on this board. I believe I will concede to Knight.

Nothing was said on broadcast. Usually they get game notes from SID but maybe STJ withheld that.

It was mentioned and assumed he didn't play much to lure Cooley out of the paint and into foul trouble. I'd take credit for that if I was Lavin ;)

I am taking the credit for the win. Game looked like somebody was reading the site. ;-)

Enjoyed the game tonight. Really impressed with DAngelo, he did not force shots and had some very nice assists. He appears to be maturing. Hit a big 3 after having his nose bloodied. He was tenacious on D. Team played well together and Branch will continue to get better.
The best thing about the game was that everyone who played contributed something. I have to remind myself that we are a team of freshmen and sophmores so there will be highs and lows. However, I will continue to root for them, Rain or Shine.

Dom brings a lot more to this team than I've ever gave him credit for. Of course it shines a lot brighter in the wins than it does the losses, but it can't go unnoticed. Just wish he were as aggressive today on offense more often. Other than that I like his game, pressure defense and unselfish passing when he's handling the ball in the paint.

I've felt for a while that Dom has the potential to develop in to the team leader. Love his intensity and tenaciousness, especially on D, plus I think he's got good court smarts. I like the kid a lot.
