(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #15 Omaha, Thu., Mar. 20, 9:45p, CBS

Omaha as in University of Nebraska AT Omaha. 16,000 enrollment, big school for the middle of nowhere.

Never heard of them until Sunday night. The Mavericks are a good band on the other hand, love Raoul Malo.

Three things come to mind with Omaha:

1. Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway

2. The McDermotts and Creighton

3. Peyton Manning calling audibles at the line of scrimmage

Score

Platte River 60

Hudson River 80

I saw their Coach interviewed. Very likable guy. They laughed about the garbage can thing they do. Talked a lot about how playing SJU and Rick Pitino will help him build his Program.

I said it elsewhere. That won't come out until Thursday is completed, because CBS wants to know what the actual second round matchups are going to be, before committing to anything.

I'm guessing 2:45pm, but that's just a guess.
945pm

I doubt Omaha has played any team that plays defense and rebounds like the Johnnies. Expect huge differences in points off turnovers and points in the paint.

Agree . Omaha surely hasn’t experienced our level of Defensive intensity .
Not that it matters .

All the teams in our League knew exactly what was coming at them from our D and , yet still couldn’t deal with it .
And, those were pretty good teams . Creighton , McQ, UCONN, Xavier . Etc

I’m thinking , neither Kansas or Arkansas have played against that kind of D either .

Zuby will be more than Hunter Dickenson can handle if we play them.

Boogie ? Has he played at all , since his injury ?

Not worried about them either .

Yeah hard to figure out their defensive approach. Give up a ton of points, but yet don’t go for steals or blocks, while still committing a bunch of fouls. Usually the aggressive fouling team would be gambling for steals.
Looking at their numbers it seems like they pack it in and let teams shoot over the top rather than get to the rim. They give up the 19th most 3 point attempts in all of D1. Plus they rebound really well as they are 19th in the D1 in defensive rebounding rate. While they might not have a giant in the middle of the paint, they have good positional size across the board. This is why I don't think it's a great matchup for us.

That's what I thought about a quarter century ago when we played Detroit. Zendon Hamilton, Felipe Lopez, Ron Artest, Lavar Postel and Ty Grand looked like final four talent. I'd say the talent was better, overall, than this team. Tarik Turner was held scoreless...and we lost by two. I'm expecting a 20 point win because of who's coaching us...but you never know.

That was a tremendously flawed -- albeit talented -- team. No PG. We've got 2 PGs and a defensive identity that makes losing to lesser teams highly improbable.

Oh Wow , I love the Mavericks as well . Raul Malo is recovering from Colon Cancer as I recall .

They are a seriously underrated Band but , not by their numerous fans .

I’m hopeful he recovers and they can tour again .

As for BB , you can’t fix the Stupidity of the NCAA . They have us playing in the West Region but , the game is in Providence , RI .

And , how about the favoritism to Duke ? Once again playing in Raleigh , NC. Not more than a Rory McElroy drive from their Campus .

And , NC in the Tournament can’t be justified .
1 win against a Quad 1 opponent .

Our Game ? Should be a clear Win and then , Kansas or Arkansas on Saturday .,

I like our chances this week and beyond

Boogie is a fantastic, legitimate 5* freshman. Dominated at Stepinac and on the circuit. Would have been one and done but for injury, but now not so sure. My understanding is that Pitino's first calls after being hired by SJU were to Boogie's reps. He was told he was already determined to go outside of NYC and it was almost certainly going to be Kentucky (he may have actually committed) but was waiting on some developing Calipari uncertainty to resolve. He was playing very well individually when he went down in January but Arkansas was struggling, team may have been 0-5 in conference at time. ironically after he went out Arkansas got hot. Not sure of the correlation as did not follow closely. Boogie on this year's team likely means no Deivon, certainly no Wilcher, so funny how life works out.

Funny to me that we're playing a team called the Mavericks. My 6 year old son is named Maverick (spelled Mavrick) so because of that he's going to want to root for Omaha. Good thing the start time is past his bedtime!

Early disappointment will prepare him well to be a St. John's fan.
