NCAA Tournament Thread

CONGRATS to the Bears from Macon, GA. OUSTING THE DOOKIES FROM ALMOST THEIR BACKYARD IN RALEIGH,NC.

Adding the Bears to my NCAA favs for rest of tournament.. Everyone's brackets took a hit but, so what? This is college BB at its finest and why we all love MARCH MADNESS.

Kanacevic is a better college basketball player than any of the StJohns bigs.

He's big, tough and fundamentally sound. And was right under our noses. Can't fault Lavin for him. Played at Hofstra for a year then transferred. Pre-Lavin

He was available as a transfer when half of Lavin's recruits were not qualifying.

Yes. Let's take some player that no one knew about until tonight and call Lavin out for not getting him. Lavin has been a bad coach for us IMO but the stuff you guys blame him for...

Jackie boy if you lived in NYC you would have heard about Halil! Terrific rebounder in high school and at Hofstra. While Pelle was not qualifying this kid was transferring. A missed opportunity by coaches who were unfamiliar with him. Half the battle is recruiting and both Lavin and Chiles are overrated in that area. I agree with you about the coaching but that is what Whitehead was hired for??
Halil wasn't even the best player on SI at that time no less NYC. I am surprised Lavin didn't take a look at Hassan Martin also from Curtis more recently who eventually went to URI.

I live in NYC and I had never heard of Halil. I saw him play for Hofstra and thought he was a hustler with limited talent. I'm happy for him that he had a nice career after transferring but I don't think he would have been a legit target for Lavin.

As for Hassan Martin, I think Norm was looking at him. He might have moved away from SJU before Lavin even came aboard.

Hassan played on Staten Island & Lav was here. He's only a Frosh at URI now.

Duck fook!

If UNC and Syracuse (in their game tomorrow) follow suit, then all will be well.

I had yukon over St Joe's but would have gladly had my bracket busted there. I've got Cuse also but same goes. Providence is my sleeper team of the Tourney so I have them beating UNC, Iowa St and Nova

I have 'Cuse losing in the 'Sweet 16,' but l don't mind busting by one round. I have Providence losing to Iowa State. But I wouldn't bother me if the Friars were to advance further than my prediction. I'm no longer undefeated, as I have 3 losses in my brackets.

Can we stop overrating this kid Kanacevic? I mean yes, he turned out to be a nice college player, a good role player in the A-10 conference. I'm sure many teams would have liked to have a piece like that, and yes his BB IQ is through the roof and he can rebound and pass for a big man. However, it's not like he's a scoring option, he barely averaged 10 points this year, after averaging 8 the previous two. Hindsight is 20/20 sometimes. What about every other major team who passed on him as well?

My bad. I was thinking about the kid that played for Linden.

If you followed PSAL ball you would have heard of him! My buddy Ron N certainly knew of him! Curtis won the PSAL A City championship when Halil was a senior. I was impressed with him as a big white kid that was very mobile, a good scorer and terrific nose for the ball on rebounds. He was an excellent passer for a big man and I think may have led Joes in assists! Hofstra had the inside track because their coach had a nose for city players. He had a very good first year at Hosftra and he was a consistent 4 year player. Can anyone here dispute he would have been a good fit after watching him play at Joes this year? Damn, even our projected NBA stud Primo lost his starting job to a guard by the end of the season!! That guard that only the wizard would start, Phil dribble crazy Greene! LOL!

BTW, Halil was First Team All City in NYC as a senior. You guys must only follow Catholics.

HALIL KANACEVIC, Curtis
The 6-8 senior was a gifted offensive player, averaging 17.9 ppg, including 11 games of 20 or more points and a season-high 32 against Moore Catholic. Hofstra-bound center could also rebound, block shots and make crisp passes for the PSAL 'A' champion Warriors.

Maybe Rat Face meant more Atlantic Sun teams should be in the tournament not Atlantic Coast Conference.
