Kanacevic is a better college basketball player than any of the StJohns bigs.
He's big, tough and fundamentally sound. And was right under our noses. Can't fault Lavin for him. Played at Hofstra for a year then transferred. Pre-Lavin
He was available as a transfer when half of Lavin's recruits were not qualifying.
Yes. Let's take some player that no one knew about until tonight and call Lavin out for not getting him. Lavin has been a bad coach for us IMO but the stuff you guys blame him for...
Jackie boy if you lived in NYC you would have heard about Halil! Terrific rebounder in high school and at Hofstra. While Pelle was not qualifying this kid was transferring. A missed opportunity by coaches who were unfamiliar with him. Half the battle is recruiting and both Lavin and Chiles are overrated in that area. I agree with you about the coaching but that is what Whitehead was hired for??
Missed opportunity?
The kid was ranked as the 184th best center in the country coming out of high school.

Buyer of BS rankings beware! Where was Dom Pointer ranked? Where was Amir Garrett ranked? Who started for 4 years of college and likely will play 10 years in Europe?
Give it a rest, please.
1. Why are we getting so worked up by a kid who had a career year this year averaging 10.8 pts and 8.8 rebounds in his last year of eligibility.
2. This is supposed to be a thread on the NCAA Tournament not a every player we didn't get who is in the tourney bash of Lavin or our team or Roberts (since Lavin wasn't here to recruit him either time). There are plenty of other threads on this forum for that. He had a nice consistent career. Good for him.
3. DUKE LOST!!!!!!!!!!
Duke losing made my day!!! I hate them and Syracuse with a passion only reserved for the wife!
I did not bring up Halil, another poster did and others chimed in how they never heard of him! That's ok for some of the fans that do not live in NYC. All I did was remind folks this was a very good player in high school who could have been valuable on this rebound starved team. He had good years ALL of his years unlike our all stars and I followed him because I know some PSAL coaches who loved the kid.
FYI:
2009-10 (Hofstra University): Named to the CAA All-Rookie Team... Averaged 8.6 points and 7.6 rebounds at Hofstra... Played in 34 games with seven starts...Notched double figures 12 times... Had a double-double in his collegiate debut with 18 points and 12 rebounds against Kansas.
High School/Personal: PSAL Class A Player of the Year at Curtis High School in Staten Island... Averaged 18.0 points and 12.0 rebounds as a senior... Helped Curtis to the PSAL title in 2009, the first ever won by a Staten Island team... Had a triple-double in the PSAL Tournament and had 19 blocked shots in an opening round game.
