Anyone know if our game will be saturday afternoon or evening?
I predict Kansas, but game is close. The Arkansas big man is a big wild card for them. He is either a no show or plays a huge game, with almost no in between.
I've had that experience with him, last year and this year. He scares me more than Dickinson because of his shot blocking, speed/agility, and ability to knock down four threes in any random game. He also doesn't get in foul trouble. But, he can also not impact the game at all.I saw one game for them and he splashed like 5 straight threes and was blocking everything from out of nowhere. If someone just saw that game, they'd think he was a lottery pick.
Yes, just as I have said that the tourney will be a good measure as to how good the SEC really is, it will also be a good barometer as to how mediocre the BE is or was. In the past the BE often overperformed in the tourney. Will be interesting to see if that remains, or if the seedings and metrics accurately show a conference that needs to be better.Very excited for this week and weekend, but man it is a really tough road in front of this team. Have to hope we take down Omaha with limited difficulty, but then to pick up against the winner of Kansas / Arkansas. I know Kansas really disappointed this year, but that doesn't change the fact that they are one of only three teams to beat Duke and have a really good big man that could potentially mess with the drive pull up game the same way we saw Kalk do this year. Otherwise, Arkansas is also a tough get in round two. Lots of bashing of the number of SEC teams that made the tourney, but even with an under .500 conference record, you can't argue with the fact that they still went toe to toe a few times with some of the best teams in the country, so I don't see them as a slouch if they take down Kansas.
Then to see Florida, Maryland, Texas Tech, Pukon, Memphis and (what seems to be everyone's favorite spoiler this year) Colorado State in the same bracket. Wow. Oh, and if they can slug their way into the final four it will likely be against the number one overall team in Auburn.
Should be a lot of fun, but the guys are surely going to need to step up big time to do some damage. I'm so excited to see what this team can do against teams outside of the Big East. Good luck to all the Big East teams as well; even that other one in our bracket...

Mike, it’s St. Patrick’s day, it’s afternoon; how are you still sober enough to post?fixed one word for you
Not 1 drink. Working today. Rarely do I go out today. Might pick up some corn beef take out later for dinner though but cabbage is a big hell noMike, it’s St. Patrick’s day, it’s afternoon; how are you still sober enough to post?![]()
This can sound contradictory, but I think STJ should either double Dickinson and dare one of their underachieving guys to shoot it, or just let him get his points 1x1. No reason for Zuby to be overly aggressive, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game. Let him get his, he'll find his way into turnovers/foul trouble/get tired down the line. The only thing that scares me is Zuby getting in foul trouble. That immediately takes us from a top 10 team to a bubble team. I don't think the Arkansas kid can get Zuby in foul trouble. I do think Dickinson can back Zuby down at will at kill us on the glass.
Hope we become the first
Cronin is mid, as the kids say. He's of the Pitino coaching tree, but a far cry from a Billy Donovan or Tubby Smith in his prime. His name has come up during the various Louisville coaching searches ever since they stupidly ran Rick out of town, and most of the level-headed UofL fans rightfully said "please, no." They call him the angry elf.I won’t act like I’m an expert on UCLA but I checked them out when they played Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament this past week and they looked horrible
Pardon my language but Kansas isn't s* this year, and we are definitely better then Arkansas, Rick would run circles around Cal, are you kidding me.Have you looked at the gauntlet we have to run to make the Elite 8? Do you think we are beating Florida to get to the FF?
We have to survive a tough matchup with either Kansas or Arkansas (playing teams with capable 7 footers and athletic length are not optimal matchups for us, and btw Boogie Fland is back), to get to the Sweet 16, then beat TTU to get to the Elite 8, and THEN we would get to play be current best team in the country to make the Final 4.
Not the best possible matchups for us, to say the least.
We would have been better off playing Big 10 or ACC teams
I think that's a bit of an overblown urban myth. I once asked a then-popular/connected basketball community years ago about it just to see if anyone could provide some actual supporting facts rather than just the usual "BECAUSE THEY HATE EACH OTHER!" jargon, and there wasn't one. Not one person could point to something or cite an actual event that triggered this supposed hatred.Im hearing pitino and calipari cant stand each other. Anyone know the backstory there?
There are a lot of ridiculous stats thrown around during ncaa time. This one about a preseason unranked team as a 1-2 seed is about absurd as they come. Weren’t we like #26 preseason? I guess if we were one spot higher we would be good but now we are screwed lol.We will be changing a lot of narratives this year. No St. Johns team has ever won the NCAA tournament either. Time for things to change.
Can’t remember the exact wording but Rick himself said this year along the lines “every one knows we’re not friends”.I think that's a bit of an overblown urban myth. Personally, I think they're competitive rivals on the court and they love to beat each other, but that's as far as it goes. You can always tell when two coaches don't like each other by simply watching the post-game handshake. When they do the blow-by dead-fish it's pretty obvious. Any time Pitino and Calipari have shook hands, they always stop and pay each other respect and congratulate the winner and praise each other in the press conference. They've done sit-down interviews together where they get along just fine. I also remember when Rick told a story about him calling John to tell him they were having Mass for his mother who had passed away. You don't do that for people you hate.
