NCAA Tournament seeding

we have basically no shot at the Final 4.
I think this is crazy. Why not? If we get through the Saturday game we could face Drake in the Sweet 16.

Who is to say Florida even makes it to the Elite 8. They don’t travel exceedingly well…I think we would beat them 4 out of 10x on a neutral court.

We could beat anyone any given night. We are dangerous as an underdog.

Have you looked at the gauntlet we have to run to make the Elite 8? Do you think we are beating Florida to get to the FF?

We have to survive a tough matchup with either Kansas or Arkansas (playing teams with capable 7 footers and athletic length are not optimal matchups for us, and btw Boogie Fland is back), to get to the Sweet 16, then beat TTU to get to the Elite 8, and THEN we would get to play be current best team in the country to make the Final 4.

Not the best possible matchups for us, to say the least.

We would have been better off playing Big 10 or ACC teams

Too early for this.... Lawman, why are you glazing the opps? Get your mind right.

Outside of Florida, nobody in the bracket scares me. They can all be beaten. And if we are fortunate to play Arkansas, Boogie Fland will drive back to the Boogie Down with an L. He can follow me down i95...

Truth is I think they get bounced and it's us vs Kansas.

Go Johnnies!

I’m with LMF on this one. Our draw sucks. It doesn’t mean we can’t or won’t go in there and run the table, but it makes me angry seeing other two seeds get 7/10s like UCLA/Utah St to accompany them and we get two teams with tons of talent and athleticism that have under achieved this season.

I hate the underachieving power teams like Kansas/Arkansas their talent is elite and they will be locked in to flush their mediocre regular season with a good 2-3 weeks of basketball. I watched Kansas play @houston like 2 weeks ago and it was a close one that went down to the wire and I immediately thought about how I didn’t want them near us as a second round opponent. Oh well

To me with this draw, making the sweet 16 would be awesome. I don’t really concern myself with the matchups beyond that point, because this is March madness and those teams will have to dodge upset bids as well. It is survive and advance time

UCLA is much better than those teams and Vanderbilt stormed their court like four different times this year.

Our mental strength compared to Arkansas and Kansas is Herculean. They will fold

And you know there is 100% chance they matched up Ark and KU to guarantee one of Cal/Self advances to see us. They didn’t want or risk Utah state sneaking by self.

Notorious hater Jeff Goodman said we can go 0-20 from 3pt against Arkansas or Kansas and still beat them, lol.
Reallly?
Serious quetsion - what is flawed about both those respective teams?
They just don't play as a team offensively? or lousy defense?

Disagree about UCLA being better than Ark and especially KU. I definitely don’t think they are more talented. Lost to Minnesota at home and last two games vs ranked teams were double digits loss. Kansas still has as much talent as anyone in the country and a 7 foot 25 year old center.

I trust UCLA's cohesiveness and integrity on defense a lot more than Arkansas. UCLA also had a seven game winning streak this year beating Wisconsin, Michigan St and Oregon.

Arkansas has never strung together five good games this year. They lost to South Carolina by 20!!! two weeks ago, while playing for their tournament lives. They're also extremely banged up. Theiro is their best player and would be an interesting matchup for RJ or Kadary, but he may not play. Boogie doesn't scare me coming off of a finger injury. They have a seven man bench as is. We'll wear them down.

Kansas is sort of scary but they also can't shoot 3s. They are a poor man's version of, us. After their 34 point embarrassing loss to BYU, they've only gone 4-5. The two things that would scare me about an opponent is three point shooting and an elite dribble penetrator, and I don't think they have either.

I won’t act like I’m an expert on UCLA but I checked them out when they played Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament this past week and they looked horrible

We’ll be favorites, but I really think the other 7-10 M’s would match up much better for us. I worry about teams with size and athleticism that can match our physicality and keep us off the boards. Arkansas has that. Kansas has (as annoying as he is) one of the best centers in the country. Hes not kalk on defense at all, but he we’ll draw our whole defense and be a pain on the boards and inside. People like to pile on Self, but let’s be real he’s as good a coach as there is in the country.

OK now that I'm past rapid-reaction, this morning's random thoughts:

1. The SEC deserved those bids.
2. UNC did not deserve a bid but they were always getting in as long as they were in shouting distance. Now let's see if they can pull a Syracuse.
3. You can see from the BE seeding outside of St John's what the committee thinks of the Big East.
4. I know nothing about Omaha and I'm not going to worry about them.
5. People forget that Kansas was the pre-season #1 team. Obviously they have been a mess all year compared to that standard. Hunter Dickinson concerns me, he's exactly what we don't need to face. But I think our toughness can win out over them anyway, and also that Pitino can find a way to beat Arkansas. Either will be tough but winnable.
6. Texas Tech is a lot like us, it would be nice if they got upset someplace before we play them.
7. I said what I said about Florida. I think they would be a double-digit favorite over us.
8. Amused that the Committee's idea of a story line was "let's have two former Kentucky coaches play one another" if it works out that way.

Willard has been hilarious this year. And the guy can coach. But we would beat them.

We are on exactly the same page. Would have to throw all of Zuby, Prey and Vince at Dickinson and hope for foul trouble or to wear him down. And if we send help watch AJ Storr return from the dead and torch us. It's pick your poison between them and Arkansas and I probably prefer Arkansas.

I mean, wouldn't we all love a fourth matchup with Marquette? :ROFLMAO:

Kansas defense rebounding will be a thing STJ will need to clean up. Kansas is 32nd in rebounding differential with +3.8, while we're only at 2.0. Arkansas is right behind us in that regard. Our offensive rebounding is a massive, massive advantage though. Kansas is 191st in offensive rebounding differential with 0, while Arkansas is 279th with -1. We're 14th in the country with +3.7. Ironically, St. Mary's is ahead of us, another 7 seed.

I just don't think these teams have the toughness to match us. Turning that switch on in March is incredibly difficult. Dickinson is better on paper, but an easy guy to target on defense and also gets flustered/in his head very quickly. Let him get 30 points, I don't care. He only averages 1 block a game and, yes, is slow laterally.

And yes, I predict either matchup to be tied, or down 1, with 10 minutes left, and we end up covering. Not saying it will be a 40 minute blowout.
