(NCAA-Game 1, Dayton) - Arizona St., Wed. Mar. 20, 9:10 pm, TruTV / 970 AM

We actually out-rebounded ASU, 43-42 & 16 offensive to 6. I don't believe it.

I’m almost happy it’s finally over. Team gave me a migraine watching them these past 5 weeks. Watching this team down the stretch was like watching the Red Wedding Game of thrones episode on repeat with my eyes taped open.

If you don’t get the reference, just know the red wedding isn’t fun to watch.

We were a flawed team all season but clearly coaches figured out how to play us midway through the season. We didn’t make any adjustments as things got tougher for us. Also, players just stopped hitting shots, mainly Marv. When this team was really rolling earlier this season, Marv was solid as a stretch 4, hitting a lot of big shots and providing serious matchup problems for teams. He went cold.

Overall this season gave me some good memories. Going to the VCU game with my cousin and going to the Georgetown game on the road with my dad. The seton Hall game at MSG was a fun night. The nova game although I watched on TV was a great moment. All these moments made you think this team was meant for more than a play in loss, but at the end of the day this team and staff was not good enough to sustain success when coaches figured us out

Making NCAA and losing unfortunately constitutes success around here. Just saying.
If that were the case the last coach would not have been fired...
From result stand point it is absolutely a success. Not saying I feel that way or admin feels that way but it is a fact.
Then I don't understand your point. I don't believe Cragg for a minute thinks this season was a success. Nor do I think they thought that way 4 years ago.

And my larger point is how you make the NCAAs matters. Going 8-10 and sneaking in and losing in play in game is different then say going 13-5 and getting a 4 or 5 seed and getting upset in 1st round. The regular season matters. And this was a very mediocre subpar regular season regardless of what happened tonight. That is a fact
The point is based off our last 20 something years an NCAA berth unfortunately would be considered a success around here since that has been our high water mark and often we stink.
No I can 100% assure you that is not how this is being looked at nor should it. The expectations for this year and for these 4 years are not based on the last 20 so not sure why you think that is relevant. The idea because SJU was this thisclose to making NIT that somehow makes this a success is false. And Cragg rightly does not think so.
If you were some random fan and looked at a college basketball encyclopedia since 2000 and had to pick out ST John's best seasons, this year unfortunately would be one of them. Not defending anyone just commenting on sad state of program the last 2 decades.
Doesn’t mean this season was a success. Especially in light of what we are losing and gaining for next season.
Everything is comparative. Sadly compared to most seasons it is. That is my only point.

The miserable side of me takes solace in knowing some teams with much loftier expectations for this tournament will lose in the next 2 days. And be right where we are.

Pretty sure I heard post game commentators say ASU was plus 9 rebounding

Goodbye Chris Mullin, hopefully A.D. Cragg has seen enough. We certainly have. If finishing this season this poorly with an experienced group ( suppose to be best starting five in B.E.) what can we expect next year with an entirely new group. Turn in your keys Chris.
I thought we should have pressed them in the first half as evidenced by the Sun Devils poor handling of the press in the second half.
There is no reason we continued to make the same mistakes at this stage, careless passing and throwing 3 point bombs.
Is there any reason Williams could not get one second of play. The kids a slasher and pretty good defensively.
God help us if Keita stays around. Scared the hell out of my dog as I was screaming at the TV
This pitiful performance is a result of this pitiful coaching staff.
Wouldn't mind us looking at the Belmont coach. Hell, there is no standing around , passing is crisp and player movement.
Don't see any improvement in Mullin's coaching next year. Have the feeling he wants out, has to know he stinks as a coach and that Redmen fans is a shame.

Another game where the strategy of taking the three when you feel you are open doesn't work and it probably hasn't worked for months. If Mullin is going to continue this game plan next year he should advise Simon and Trimble to transfer and recruit some shooters for next year. Perhaps he should consider a change of strategy based on his personnel abilities.

I am glad this season is over. It started with such promise and ended tonight losing to a team that wasn't very good and did everything they could to try and give the game away. I will be Section 10 again next season.

Don’t disagree, but that’s what sucks the most about being a St. John’s fan. Bar has been lowered so much.

Yup that was my only point

I think we all knew it was over when Sideshow Bob banked in that spinning chuck shot it the first half. Officiating, although I did like the fact they let some of the physical play go, was horrid. Would have liked ASU not being gifted 2 points on the Heron 'flagrant' foul, and how about Simon getting tripped up in the lane?
Please find a way to have Sedee leave the program, please!

Early look at next year's schedule- Molloy, McClancy, St Francis Prep, Resurrection Ascension, St Pancras, that should get the team ready for Big East play.
Heron and Clark went 1-17, yikes!
Fire Mullin?

Seedee picked up a season high 8 boards. Why didn't Greg Williams get a chance to play in this game?

They lady in the studio did say that after the game, but she was looking at the wrong line.

They outrebounded us by 9 on the defensive boards, but overall, we were +1. That's really not how it went for most of the year.

More than likely we have to play UVA next year.

How does anyone on this team leave early?

Ponds is the only one who has a case, but where’s he gonna go? He’s way too small, not good enough handle for the NBA. Who is advising these guys?
Hope Heron goes too.
Where is Heron going to go? He certainly won't get drafted or even get an opportunity to play in the D League. If he and his dad were smart he would stick around for another year, can only improve.
