NCAA Breakdown & Matchups

UMBC is up 11 over Virginia and about to shoot three free throws. History might just be in making. This team is a shell of its self without DeAndre Hunter.

Up 17 with 3:29 to go. Hang in there, Retrievers!

UMBC has scored 44 points in the second half, with 2:16 still to go.

A lot of teams usually don't score 44 points in a game against Virginia.

NCAA history is made. UMBC becomes the first No. 16 seed to defeat and No.1 seed as they beat Virginia in a blow out. Not just a No. 1 seed but the top overall seed.

March Madness at its finest has been on display this first round with fantastic finishes, upsets and now this as the topper.

Don't worry, you will, you will. Unbelievable!

I just added Ryan Odom of UMBC to my list of young coaches with experience if Mullin falters next year. There are quite a few NCAA coaches out there earning half of Slice's salary (Don't get me started).

Unfortunately, this loss gives Kentucky an easy road to the Final Four.

this is why the first 2 days of march madness are my favorite of any sport

When I heard he wasn't playing I had a feeling the school withheld his injury from the NCAA to keep their #1 seed. Had they announced it they should have been knocked down a few lines.

Probably so they could have Duke take their place. There was a great quote from Jarius Lyles AAU coach saying that Lyles who initially signed with VCU and had transferred and graduated last year could have left and played at a higher level but he knew that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Both his parents went to UVA. Lyles was a 3 star recruit which is not that common in the America East Conference. Played at Dematha Catholic.

Still hard to fathom that Virginia not only lost but got blown out. Jeez! Now only wish Creighton could have pulled out their game.

To some extent much bigger than who will actually win this thing.

Deserves its own thread. Cpuld be the best story in 2018 sports.

For them it will end very soon but they will carry it for a lifetime.

Awesome.

That's rational. The day after we beat Villanova you cpuld have added Mullin to the list with 2 wins against top 4 teams.

I think I may be the only forum member who graduated from UMBC. Go Retrievers!...And Johnnies (of course)
It's crazy here in MD

No. Because they are relatively young and have been coaching their entire careers and not just one game. They both are relatively flying under the radar of national coaches. That’s the rational way of lining up candidates should the shit hit the fan in the future.;)

A casual friend of mine,TomSullivan, coached there for a while. He played for the last great Fordham team under Digger & was PJ’s assistant coach at the Hall. Bronx guy!
