My apologies to team and staff

Very hard game to watch in first half. We did not appear to have any answer either strategy wise or effort wise to their early blitz. When we went down 29-10 I took 5 minutes off from watching to finish my grilling and to maintain my sanity. Completely different team in that glorious 2nd half after Simon's 3/4 court prayer went in.

Who could have predicted Ponds, Booth & Paschall would all have awful shooting games? Heron really seems to have hit his stride at the right time for us and Figgy was phenomenal. On to PC to even things up with the friars.

Once again Panther2, you have hit the nail on the head with your insightful post. Our fan base is made up of too many children who require instant gratification and immediate satisfaction for their opinions which are normally wrong.

Apparently this board is not so unique. Nova board is killing Gillespie, some critical posts of Jay Wright and many declaring they won't get out of the first round in March. I guess it's all relative.

I respect your post MJ, but here is what I don't understand. If I am at the game cheering for St. Johns, why is there a need to post our feelings during the game. The first half was abysmal, even Stevie Wonder could see that. However, I do not see how you can root for your team and post about the terrible coaching and play at the same time. I have no problem with posting after a loss, but during the game does not make sense to me. I can't count the number of times a player has been roasted on this board for making a mistake and then come back and make a great play.

I would love it if all of our personal careers were televised. Most of us are successful in our fields, but I am sure that we all have had moments that we would not want televised. Just think about it for a moment.

I guess what I am trying to say is that while I was frustrated and disappointed during the first half, I saw no reason to share my feelings on Redman.com. Social Media has made us all creatures of "instant gratification", this is what I feel and I have to let everyone know what I feel "right now". The problem with this is that our feelings are not always correct and then we have to eat our words.

I have absolutely no idea what took place in the locker room at halftime but the team came out in the second half much more focused. We fought back, then went down 14 points but did not quit. Who was responsible for this, the same coaches and players that were castigated in the first half. This team, while not great, has shown resilience. Much respect for what they accomplished yesterday.

Maybe we should all try to root for the team during the game and save our critiques for when it is over, Just the opinion of an old man.[/quote]

It’s not just during the game (every game btw), it’s all year. We are quite obviously in one of the top 2-3 seasons we’ve had in 20 years and the negativity is nonstop. Mullin needs to be fired after every bad stretch between the tv timeouts.

Fire Mullin. What is wearing? What is he drinking? Why is St. Jean talking in the huddle? “Who should we hire next?”

We are 20-4 with both Ponds and Heron. What staff in the country would have a better mark with this group?

As a season ticket holder I agree with this sentiment. This board, for whatever reason, has a very high percentage of pessimists. Doesn't make any of you bad people, just mostly unhappy ones. I sometimes wonder why things are so negative here and come back to the Roberts era (better called the Roberts error.) From what I can glean many here stuck firmly behind the program during that dark period, actually watching and attending games, and continuing to analyze the team, here and elsewhere. That takes an incredible passion and dedication. I salute those who did that. It also seems to have created a SJU PSTD where many here can no longer enjoy good times and expect the sky to fall at the sign of every cloud.

Understandable and I actually feel for you guys, it must be awful to be wired that way. This season has been a blast, and I'm looking forward to the next game.

This.

This would be the correct thread to mention that I am looking forward to the Doc Butler 3,000 word post about how great Mullin coached last night and to point out every error by Wright in painstaking detail. Followed by a plethora of follow-up posts about how wise the analysis is and how it is too bad Doc is not coaching the Wildcats.

Just kidding folks, just like so many of you say when you kill the team you root for!

BTW when Wright got T'd up I think it was 5 team fouls for ST John's to 2 for Nova.

Here is the thing along with the SH disaster and the fact that 2 of our losses came w/o one of our best 3 players, we have gotten a terrible whistle all year long. Before this season I never really complained about refs or umps or officials. I played sports my whole life and always understood that it was never intentional but that bad calls were just a part of sports. This year has me questioning that belief.

I used to think it was just our board but I’ve seen it on so many other boards now out of curiousity. But for nova fans to blast their team and coach this year is crazy. They have totally overachieved with a great coach and they still complaining.

As for our group. This is one our best and most exciting team in who knows how long and we hear it over and over. Hey pessimists. We optimists get frustrated also when we lose. I expected 12-1 ooc and 14-4 in big east play for a 26-5 record entering big east tournament play. Obviously I’m not hitting my guess but I sure am enjoying this year even though it’s not as good as I expected record wise up to this point. I still believe we have an elite 8 run in them if we ever really click on all cylinders though.

Most of the pessimists had us pegged for a total of 20- 22 wins or so entering big east tourney play so why are you all (most) hammering the team after a loss? Or inconsistent play? The optimists should be complaining as we expected more.

I also thought last night that from the technical on SJU got as good a shake from the referees as they have all year. The boxscore bears that out. We know that Mullin rides the referees all the time, and its hard not to conclude that calls go against SJU to spite him. People have pointed this out, and I happen to agree that he should recognize this and back off, but that doesn't make it correct either. This ins't fourth grade CYO, and these referees get paid good money to be objective and get the calls right. That is not what I see at all.

Good post. After the game I went back and read the gamethread, and man there are people who embarrassed themselves.

However, what I've come to realize over the years is while many on this board are passionate, they have no control over their emotions, and come pounding away on the keyboard the first time anything goes wrong as a way of venting. I guess it's therapy for them.

This might be the post of the year. The first law of the internet is that negative people will be overrepresented. On top of that, sports fans tend to lean negative. Even with that in mind, our fans take it to new levels.

We are coached by the face of the program...a true legend. The man has us ready to dance in just his fourth season (improvements each year) with no prior coaching experience. Logic would lead any resonable person to believe that he and his staff will only improve with experience, learning from mistakes, acquiring better talent, and filling out the roster with players like Figueroa that fit his system.

Visiting our forums has become very unenjoyable. The purpose of a sports forum is to foster a community of fans to support a team, but ours have been hijacked by negative fans.

There is certainly a place for criticism, letting off steam occasionally and posting about disappointment, but you can’t lose sight of the role that sports are supposed to play in your lives.

I was blown away by the support the team had in Miami as well as what’s been happening at the Garden this year my. Those are the fans I want to be associated with.

Now I it took me 4 years or so to turn on Norm but fair is fair although you were right about Norm :)

For me at games I dont really post much usually. I pretty much never trash a player. When not at games most of the times I'll post during game threads sometimes a lot sometimes not as much. I actually enjoy it because it's pretty much how I talk with my 1114 friends during games. It's whatever I'm thinking at the time. But just like I use my real name as my screen name I never post something I wouldn't say in person.

Yesterday first half I was posting because the game was so bad it was almost unwatchable. The second half I'm not even sure if I posted and if I did it wasn't much because the second half was riveting and we were standing most of the time cheering

So for me I enjoy reading game threads and posting on them. Doesn't matter to me if people are right or wrong. It's raw emoting good or bad. I prefer that than post game thread personally
