Mullin Update

Listened to Mullin after the game tonight. Very refreshing. All about basketball, the team and players, etc. That was what I disliked about Lavin. He loved to hear himself speak, and a lot of the time we weren't interested.

He's very direct and specific about what we need to do better. He is very convincing and makes it clear what they will work on fixing in practice this week. Such a refreshing thing to hear from a coach.

Six inch wide plastic seats at CA next? :)

I like watching this team, and particularly the young guys develop.

The most important thing to me is that it is evident that this staff, unlike some before it, have a very keen eye for talent. Even when forced to rush to fill a roster with limited choices, they were able to discern guys who have talent, are real bb players and guys who can play the game.

I only think this group will get better, and with the guys coming in next year and beyond, the future is really bright.

They also should be commended for addressing roster imbalance with addition of transfers like Owens, with 3 years eligibility, & Williams, also with 3. Factor in the two fifth year seniors & the log jam problem has been addressed. Nice strategic thinking & planning in my opinion.

We've all been watching college hoops for years. Love the Mullin hire, and di believe the future is bright. However, once the competition gets tougher, this team will struggle mightily. Not enough ball handlers. Offensive rebounding concerns. I think they'll be many close games, but talent-wise, I don't see many wins. This year is for establishing a base, continuing to get talented, smart players, and then start to cash in next year.

Also considering we couldn't shoot a lick and now we have numerous shooting options MUSSINI with Lovett this yr would be putting up even bigger numbers His passing, court vision and IQ is outstanding

Thus far Mullin and company merit a grade of "A" for their job of working what was left to them.

Isn't it so great that after just one exhibition game, guys were inferring, "He can't do this, he can't do this"

Then we win three in a row, and as smoothly as his bottom of the net jumper, people are just as quickly becoming convinced that not only can he do it, he is doing it.

I'm not convinced after just 4 games that he will do it, though I am confident he will. What I am 1000% certain of is that if he is capable, there is no one better suited to hold the title of SJU coach than Chris.

Maybe they got a new light bulb.

@rumbleSBN: Mullin on feeling any pressure as coach: “I think it’s more about responsibility.” #sjubb

@rumbleSBN: Chris Mullin on Christian Jones: “He has a quiet confidence. He has been great.” #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: Chris Mullin on not knowing which players will be eligible: "it's like being on Mars to me." #sjubb

You have got to love what Mullin brings to St. John's. When posters here talk about his refreshing quotes, well guess what he is a HOF basketball player. Not one coach other than
Joe Lapchick has the credentials as a player that Mullin has. His vision of what is going on in
ten times the awareness of the common fan. That is not to disparage Looie, Lavin, Frachilla,
Jarvis etc as coaches but Mullin is on another level. Fans have got to be happy with
the potential that Chris will bring to St. John's. Who knows what the ceiling will be?

Will there be a new season for the Red Storm Report?
