Mullin Update

Carnesecca Arena opened in December 1961 so yea they need to finish it off now and now they have the right pieces to win they can build a good arena i dunno about the carrier dome but close to it .

i remember what mullin said was he wants alot of game MSG and at barclay's center

The carrier dome's a football stadium, I mean c'mon make some sense.

actually its around 30k when MSG is almost 20k lol and u dont think that st johns and basketball fans in general can generate that? syracause is in upstate ny look at the population there compared to nyc and let alone dont worry once boeheim leaves so is there attendance lol

cowboys stadium have lets see over 105 thousand so cmon thats a real football stadium

I'm well aware of the difference between the Carrier Dome and Cowboys Stadium having been in both. There is no need for a venue larger than MSG nor is there room for such on campus. That was my point. And no, I don't think there is a chance in hell that STJ could fill a venue that size with their fans.

Carrier Dome seats nearly 50K. Aside from that, are you really suggesting an arena on campus bigger then MSG? Is this supposed to be a joke...

The Nassau Coliseum is being demolished but a new building with a 13,000 seat capacity is replacing it. Kentucky is scheduled to open the arena. Construction always seems to run into delays but even if it a season away it should be considered as a venue considering construction costs.
Play the A games at MSG , the B games at Nassau and the C games at CA. :nervous:

That'll never happen. Impossible to get to Nassau on a weekday night if you work in the city.

We had one weeknight game at MSG this year also. Not exactly commuter friendly schedule

I'm not an Islanders fan by any means but I went to their game Tuesday and the crowd was pretty good all things considered. Much better than an average weeknight at the Coliseum. They're also now a pretty good team.

Well they must sell all of their seats to Ranger fans when the teams play. It was a sellout but the crowd was the same as it would have been at MSG.

Since Dr. G has made it clear basketball is a priority with bringing in Chris and Co., is there any chance we will be updating our arena and/or facilities to seal the deal? Any plans for a new arena down the line? Or more modernizations at least? How about training/gym facilities?

School has been rather quiet about this, unless I'm uninformed, but if we truly want to move forward and to help Chris and staff out I think we need to further invest in the infrastructure. Thoughts?

Simple answer is absolutely not.
They just did a few years ago , it will not happen for a very long time if at all. Perhaps after 60 straight on campus sellouts , which would mean we are damn good for 5 years in a row discussion will commence. Not before. And since Coach's name is on the building there cannot be a title sponsor as there is will other buildings on campus.
Win and get players to the pros and more future pros will come. Very simple formula. The better the players the more we win. The more we win the more games to MSG. I look forward to the day when the team only plays 5 games a season on campus.
The last refurbishing was first announced to be a 35 million dollar one and they later claimed to have spend 5 million (would love to know where the other 30 mill went, FR Harry?). Think they wound up replacing 2 bricks in the outer wall and one light bulb for the popcorn machine for their expenditures.

funny enough i saw the NC STATE AND DUKE GAME AND dick vitale was talking about how mullin and his father played together at st johns and it was possible he was gonna go there but didnt and vitale also said st johns is gonna be a good team for next year

Was talking to Dick Stockton. In his opinion he doesn't think Mullin is a good coach. Hope he is wrong. I think it is too early to judge one way or another.

My barber doesn't think he is a good coach either. his opinion carries as much weight as Stockton.

Well under the umbrella of " coach "
is recruiting and clearly Chris Mullin has excelled at that;
also under the umbrella of " coach " is assembling a quality staff...excelled yet again...
it seems another aspect of what constitutes a " coach " is moving the program in a positive direction which will absolutely happen in 2016-17...
Throw in the goodwill and connections to a myriad of HS/JC/other coaches...
I like Dick Stockton but does he have a grasp on what's really happening, where the program was and where it's headed???
I don't think so

all the best

Stockton is right Mullin is not a good coach. How could he be? He just started. Hopefully he becomes a good coach but the jury is out,
