Monasch Out

Sources: Sacramento Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro - who lost authority to Vlade Divac - will be a significant candidate for St. John's AD job.

There are few people more keyed into NBA personnel movement than Woj.

I don't think there are any. Always the first to break big NBA news.

Has SJU roots.

If he gets the job, it will be another smart hire by Gempesaw. Another former NBA GM involved with SJU, is wonderful advanced thinking. Gempesaw is really going hard to market SJU sports as the preeminent college sports program in the City, and have New Yorkers as the face of the department.

We have to be happy with the direction of the University under Gempesaw's leadership.

And if this is accurate, I'll be a happy camper. SJU should be the preeminent college sports team in NYC – despite what those knuckleheads to the north would have you believe.

But we will be nice, and let them be the preeminent college football program in NYC. :p

If you read the wikipedia link you'll see Chris actually hired him for his first NBA job with the Warriors.

Rumble in the Garden - Chris Monasch to Leave as St. John's Athletic Director

"What can Pete D`Alessandro do on the college level, without salaries? How will this change affect the non-revenue sports? What if Chris Mullin and D`Alessandro have a conflict about performance?"

All valid questions, but from my point of view, this appears to be a good move. With all the heavy hitters joining, and if Pinckney comes on board as well, we will be more professional and better run than the Knicks.

More professional and better run than the Knicks?
That's not saying very much

Worked for Rick Lazio?

Don't particularly care if the next AD is good at creating schedules, maintaining NCAA compliance or hiring tennis coaches.

The next AD doesn't even have to be good at managing the basketball program since we (hopefully) already have that in place for a significant number of years.

But I do care if he or she has the ability to raise money and direct a long overdue capital campaign to replace the symbol of our mom-and-pop culture: CA. This has to be a priority.

But I do care if he or she has the ability to raise money and direct a long overdue capital campaign to replace the symbol of our mom-and-pop culture: CA. This has to be a priority.

Really? That has to be a priority?
Why? So that 9 times a year you and I can sit in comfortable seats and watch us beat Niagra and Depaul?

I'm all for improving facilities, but we're going to play our biggest games in MSG. And the investment required to rebuild CA doesn't make sense when the money could be spent elsewhere on campus.

I'm with Desco. As much as I hate CA, it is not worth $50 million to build another on campus arena for the little bit of usage it gets. $5 million got us a new lobby and some red butt cups.

Good luck Chris Monasch. Thank you for your service to St. John's University. Our athletic department is in good shape and we are nationally competitive in all of our sports.

Sometimes it is just time to shake things up to see if someone could lead an organization to new heights.

Has SJU roots.

I think there were specific reasons for his dismissal + some at SJU are pleased - others in this site know better than I
- but the main thing is an effective successor...what are D's SJU roots?

Hmm ... I just heard a from a good source that Jim Dolan is thinking about buying St. John's University.
