Mike Repole Piece

No Cigar--had to run wide but couldn't make up all the ground. Gamely ran second
Tough to win the Belmont off such a long layoff. Forte was game and if healthy will have a good second half of the year.

Very fairly run race. I had Angel of Empire but the winner was very clearly the best horse today.
Had the winner. A colt whose numbers over the last three races were improving rapidly. Had a recent winner effort over the travk to boot. As for Forte, tough to win a 1 1/2 raceoff such a long layoff. Better things for him down the road,

Nice !!!

I expect 3 more top 50 walk ons this year now :)
Our fans are unaware but we already quietly have several strong NIL backers at SJU without Repole's support including some people Repole trashed. Not saying this to throw dirt on Repole but the athletic dept has some major backers whose generosity is done without fanfare. The misconception here is that Repole is the cavalry charging forward to rescue SJU. Mike Cragg, from day 1 has engaged major donors, and Chris Vaupel's team of Nick Vendikos with support from Allie Huey (Coach Chris' wife) and Maria Gonzalez have all worked tirelessly to build the athletic department base. Our chair of the BOT, Bill Janetschek is a sports nut who is a minority owner of the Miami Marlins. Many BOT members, such as our own JSJ, are incredibly charitable of the university as a whole and of the athletic department, and they have supported our teams with their presence and gifts for a long time. The majority owner of the Marlins (not an alum) was recognized at the golf outing for making a major gift to SJU.

All that being said, if Repole steps up to the extent he is capable of, he could HELP put SJU over the top in terms of basketball elite NIL collectives.

Big accolades to Vin Ochani and Storm Marketing for planting a flag on the NIL moon and working their asses off at a financial loss simply because they love SJU.

The most generous donors are the ones that move in silence.

If you look back at the commits, you can pretty much pinpoint where extra cash started flowing in.
You know, it's a hard subject for me to wrap my head around. The money that's being put up right now are not tax deductible charitable donations and yet our big supporters know this and love sju bball and the school so much they still are financing this. I mentioned this to one of those guys, who as I've gotten to know him is an incredibly good and generous man, and he looked me in the eye and said warmly, "Think of it this way: Isn't it more charitable to give when you don't get a tax deduction?" That line will stay with me a very long time.

Another guy is also one of the strongest donors in SJU's history. He correctly deduced before this past season that NIL is everything and decided to jump in when Anderson was coach.

Pitino really gets NIL like a GM of a professional franchise. A kid or his reoresentative (parent or agent) might say to the collective, "I'm worth X amount." Pitino's response might be, "Let him walk. He's not worth it" or something like that.

Such is the landscapebof college basketball. It sucks, but it's here, and as some of our leaders at sju say, "It's all out in the open now. Much better when it was under the table."

Otis is a really smart guy who understands NIL and he is a great source of knowledge for me. Great guy too. So is Vin at Storm.
