Mike Repole Piece

Interesting gossip from a reputable source with strong area ties that Repole (who lives in FL) encouraged Pitino to take the UCF job before the SJU interest. Fair to say Repole was done with SJU at that point.

Wasn’t aware Johnny Dawkins was on the hot seat at that point.

So this working class kid from Queens, who hung around the local stables is trying to lure a HoF coach to some down South, middling program at a college that's been around 15 minutes (not since 1870), and to boot, instead of your Alma Mater. He must have still been really (Mike Francesa-like) pissed off at us.

Is it possible that this happened while coach Pitino was still in Greece? At that point, I don't think St. John's or other high-majors would have been ready for him.

Fierceness with a runner up performance in the Breeders Cup Classic. He got caught up in a blazing early pace speed duel going 44 second in the first half mile, then took the lead on the turn only to be caught by a late closer type runner Sierra Leone. Still ran a great race...his Beyer should be around 112. Mike made another $1,400,000 for the race. I think Fierceness might be retired to stud soon.

Maybe I’m not getting the message that Mike Repole posted that was quoted earlier .
“ Everyone knows my loyalty to St John’s Basketball and my Alma Mater .”

I don’t see how that could be any more supportive .

I took his message to mean support for UCF Football . Since he lives in Florida ( very favorable Tax State ) compared to NY , it seems somewhat natural to support some of the local Schools in his area .
Those of us who have retried elsewhere , often get interested in our local or State Schools too.
But , not to the detriment of loyalty to St John’s , which remains 100 percent .

I can’t imagine Repole not being all in on Pitino and the BB program .
Besides St John’s doesn’t have football anyway . And , I can tell you after 14 years here in SC, College Football is a lot more popular than the Pros.

Correct! Since moving down to Tennessee after retiring, we bought football season tickets for UT-Chattanooga, a mini plan for their basketball team and head to Knoxville for an occasional Vols football and mens and women's basketball game. College football definitely is king down here. Almost everyone has either a Vols sticker or a front Vols license plate on their cars. I still have my St. John's front plate on my car as does my son who is a double grad. After the Vols win over Kentucky last night, I split screened both games in your neck of the woods...Gamecocks over A&M and L'Ville over Clemson.

You can't get into a decent sports bar to watch college football games down South on game day as they are all packed, but you have the pick of the litter for Sunday NFL games. lots of places don't even bother to buy the NFL Sunday package anymore. For me, the Jets and Giants both stink so there is no rush to watch them.

I had Giants season tickets from 1984-1998 and Yankee seasons from 1996 to 2004 which I split with Dennis Myron. I tried to support SJU last year by buying 4 MSG season packages which I donated and gave away to all my former team physicians and friends who supported the Johnnies when I was there. This year, no phone call or email to renew from our ticket office!!! So my $$$ go to local college programs.
