Mike Repole Piece

“I don’t think there’s going to be any alumni from any other Big East school that’s going to give to their alma mater more than I can. If there is, I would like to meet him. I just want to make sure everybody knows that.”

It's great news and thankful...but its also potentially big words again. A one year committment to NIL of 7 figures is big...but as Beast of East has shared there are others with financial means, not just at St. John's, that have and do donate at much higher levels to university overall with less resources than Repole.

We hear bits and pieces about upgraded player & training facilities over last two or three years but nothing formal announced. That could be a huge area Repole can have lasting program impact beyond NIL in '25. Good to hear he's had meetings w/ Shanley & BOD Chair. Hopefully an announcement comes sooner than later on facilities as with one season down with Pitino and build time likely another, time is not on side with Pitino still at helm.

Zach’s access btw to Repole has always been strong.

With Rick and Repole you obviously are dealing with huge egos. Both could be game changers for the program getting to a positive level. Rick had a bad week, but you have to believe based on his track record he will get SJ hoops on right path within a few years.

To me the guy often in the shadows of these two huge egos is Father Shanley. It was no easy task, as Jersey Shore Johnny knows so well, to achieve Board consensus in rebuilding Repole relationship and the Pitino hiring. Sometimes it is not the people who suck the oxygen out of the room who truly effect change, but quiet, humble, and strong leaders who really move the needle. All this while administering and building the University, thx Father Shanley!

Pitino, Repole and Francesa, no more to say.

Repole reads Francesa's comments telling Pitino to shut up, and then Repole puts up, smooth moves.

(Mike R, like Pete Alonso, drop the "F" in the "LFG!!!!!!", you can add even more exclamation points instead, it doesn't have a good look for Polar Bear either.)

Thank you Rick, thank you Mike Repole, but not Francesa, he has turned his back on the University too many times.

A live look at Repole addressing the STJ Board:

There is no board relationship building with Repole. NIL is separate and distinct from any BOT activities. It's great that Repole is supporting NIL, but don't confuse that with him suddenly embracing the board and vice versa. Repole wants us to win, and willing to put up NIL dollars. He's friendly with Rick and on board with him being here.

Shanley for his part is friendly with who he has to be friendly with, namely big donors. If Repole wants to be a major benefactor for facilities, that would be great. At this point, though, there is no bridge to restore the relationship with the board who he torched, manynof whom are still in place, and others still major supporters without the public bluster.

I obviously know all about the separation of NIL and did not mean to imply there is a “hunky dory” Board relationship w Repole, but things are in a better place overall re he and the University after his ill advised WFAN rant specifically targeting Board members. I just think Shanley reduced the temperature of the situation over time and has a reasonable relationship w MR. In NIL era we need Repole but it does not mean you sell your soul to him either.
