Let’s not even mention the fact Anderson just got a 3-Star kid from BK on the fly. But, yeah, no connection. These writers need to get a clue when it comes to this stuff.
TBF the article was from the 21st though so last night's commitment was never in consideration.
That doesn’t even matter. It’s antiquated thinking. It’s also something that, also frankly, hasn’t been a “thing” for us in almost 20 years. The sprinklings of Harkless and Ponds doesnt mean whoever the staff was got NYC kids. You don’t need kids from a certain geographical area to win anything. You need kids that can play and who want to win, regardless of where they’re from.

It would be nice to keep kids “home” but I find it, just, an antiquated idea in this day and age.
Idiotic article. How do these numbskulls know who the the worst new hires are 5 months before there's one game played?
The same ones who grade drafts right after they happen.
The word WORST makes no sense.
The worst hire is hiring someone who has never been a HC before.
The worst hire is hiring a re-tread, or a long time assistant.

Is this hire CONFUSING or CURIOUS to the college basketball community? Sure that would be appropriate reaction. But if I was a betting man I'd put my money on Mike Anderson based on his track record more than some others.
Agree with what you're saying, however one of the hottest HC's in the country right now (as far as recruiting goes)has zero college(or pro) coaching experience.

Sure Penny is hot right now.
But he has 20 wins under his belt too and he did coach on some level before. It makes him and Stackhouse different than Mullin per se.

I like you don't care where the kids come from. But for some reason we are in a fishbowl. If SJU doesn't get locals the locals kick, scream, whine, moan, complain maybe even sabotage what we are trying to do. We seem to be damned if we do, damned if we don't.

There are barely any kids to keep home anymore. If we want a bunch of NYC kids to play at St. John's, we would have needed to hire a head coach from New England, because all the New Yorkers are up for high school.

With CMA and Demeo, if nothing else, I'm think by February our defense will be off the hook.
Here's to hoping our fortune changes with this staff.

I doubt any of the 5 star recruits are going to Memphis because the coach has superior credentials. I also doubt that the academics is a major attraction. Perhaps there are other incentives attracting these players.
What is indisputable is that our zero college and coaching experience staff was a dismal failure and are all back out west where they belong.
Over on JJ former redmen posters Marillac and Fun gave coach Anderson no honeymoon before branding him a recruiting failure for "just" recruiting two 3 star players in May. After 3 losing seasons and last place finishes in the Big East Fun thought Mullin needed a 5 year extension. After 5 weeks he thinks coach Anderson is a failure.
We finally have 4 outstanding and experienced coaches. Not one scrimmage has been held yet. Anyone being negative about this staff should look in the mirror. Not everyone looks like you so get over it.

Given how the Big East is shaping up for 2019-20, CMA—getting the job in late April and losing 6 of the top 8 players of the past season—faces a daunting challenge to merely achieve ‘competitiveness’.
And it might be ‘bubbly’ thinking but damn, this Staff looks the most complete, experienced, most competent staff of dedicated hard-working professionals I’ve witnessed in an SJU Staff...okay, yeah, before that first ‘jump ball’.
Ya gotta believe.
Here to the challenges...
I’m betting on Iron Mike and Staff to come through...

Great question!! Something that appears to be raising it’s head. Beast thinly veiled played the race card on me for criticizing Ponds’ and I will neither read nor respond to another of his posts (like he or anyone cares). It has no place here or anywhere else, there are occasional comments here about “white guys”, which being white is fine with me because I heard that all my life on the court and it was 99% gamesmanship trying to test or get in my head. But if all criticism or difference of opinion is going to go there, Paul might as well shut this down. Hopefully, he and the mods will figure out how to eliminate this garbage.

Logen, I agree with you 100%, but you have to consider the source. Class of 72 is one of the most ignorant people who post here. He is a despicable human being.

Dear 72
Would you please be so kind as to respond to Montes question. Your response was a little perplexing.
Thank you in advance.

_______

Thank you to "oldschool Redmen" for posting the several Youtube videos of Coach Anderson and this staff.

I will be thrilled if Coach Anderson uses the 2-2-1 full court on a regular basis.

"72 said: "...We finally have 4 outstanding and experienced coaches. Not one scrimmage has been held yet. Anyone being negative about this staff should look in the mirror. Not everyone looks like you so get over it."

Totally agree we 'finally' do have a full staff comprised of experienced, successful, and professional coaches.
I also think it's fine to have some concerns about next season--given the 'late hour' in the cycle and still being 1 - 2 players 'short' and not be admonished 'to look in the mirror...because 'not everyone looks like you'.
That's over the top imo.
Let's lighten up and simply root for our guys.

Not sure what Class of '72 meant by his last remark about Monte (not everyone looks like you) but as someone who knows Monte personally I can tell you that he cares about one thing and one thing only, winning. Any suggestions to the contrary are WAY OFF base. Monte is a great fan, supporter and more importantly a great guy.

He didn’t like Lavin and he wasn’t happy with the job Mullin was doing by the end so color has absolutely nothing to do with how he feels. He’s entitled to his own opinion without it being an agenda. And I know for a fact he is an equal opportunity porn lover
