Mike Anderson

I didn’t see any out of bounds or set play being put into effect when St Jean was in the position to do so. Sadly, I think CMA should clean house and put new blood into our program

Good interview from back in his day at Mizzou.

Talks quality of minutes vs quantity... uses Corliss Williamson as example who averaged 29 minutes and 22 points...

Says his team plays 'instinctive' basketball...

all our guys should get ready to play....

So am I. wIll be hopeful Mike Anderson at least has a plan for offensive rebounding unlike Mullin's "everyone back."

Hard to blame him for losing Goodwin and Monk to Kentucky. Last decade Duke and Kentucky get basically whoever they want.
Just goes to show Razorback fans are as delusional as we are.
And just about every other fan base in the SEC. As a buddy who went to UGA put it last week, every SEC school wants to be Bama in football and Kentucky in hoops. So CMA is used to dealing with expectations even loftier than ours, which I think in general is consistently being better than Providence and Seton Hall and challenging Nova (and Xavier from a consistency standpoint) at top of conference.

Love the hire, especially since we were teetering on implosion. But as I read this article, I realize Anderson's offense will be difficult for me. After Lavin and Mullin, I was ready to move on from the "run-and-gun" style. I yearn for a strong inside-outside half court offense.

I do think that CMA is an upgrade for us and will elevated our program. But, truthfully, it's just not my favorite style of play.
Up tempo offense is not the problem...lack of defense is. If they don’t play defense, there’s a reason for concern, if they do, nomissure.
This is the reason, many were anti-Cleuss

Agree JohnnyFan. Just one person's take, seems informed and overall a lot of positives, but a few things jumped off the page reading that.

1. Can be out-schemed / doesn't tailor strategy to opponent / just plays system. That sounds very similar to prior staff. No problem with having a system, big problem if playing that system is a stubborn/inflexible thing that doesn't consider the opponent, strengths/weaknesses, game flow, etc. If the latter as the author notes it can put a ceiling on wins because you are basically going as far as that system will take you, which is not an optimizer. We'll see.

2. AD thought there was lack of vision for program going forward. Maybe that's just a generic thing to say after parting ways as that would be surprising.

3. Lets players play / doesn't show a lot of fire during games / just claps hands and says play harder. No problem with these things in theory but again so similar to criticism of prior staff that it can make you a little nervous to hear that from Arkansas fans.

Haven’t heard that from any Arkansas fans except for this writer. To say the defense doesn’t adjust and doesn’t get tailored is simplistic at best. It uses a lot of pressure. Other offenses try to beat that pressure and need the athletes and passers to do so. It’s still 5 on 5 basketball. Players still have to get past their defenders. Only thing offenses can do is try to run screens to get free. This isn’t rocket science.

Boeheim also runs a 2-3 defense that can be outschemed and doesn’t adjust much. It’s the same idea that he plays the odds of being successful vs most, and he’s been extremely consistent winner for decades. Anderson has had great success with his system too, and consistency. Some of this stuff is overrated.

Criticizing Anderson’s body language? Really? Mullin is a different story because he did no coaching at all, but for clapping the wrong way? Cmon...

Remember Brad Stevens at Butler? He didn’t run the sidelines like a maniac. Always calm and cool. Served him well in closing seconds when his team went down in the closing seconds of a game in the Final Four. His players also remained calm and responded.

I want a coach that teaches during practice and coaches in huddles.

Recruiting will be better. If you get better players you can adapt to any system. Higher recruiting class leads to more wins
