Really excited to see what coach Mike can do. I honestly like our chances to compete next year if LJ, Heron and Williams stay. I think we would see a really good version of Williams next year. Don’t know what Steere brings but if he can hit the glass and if we can keep Roberts and Ellison and coach can really get them rebounding, we’re gonna be ok.

Best of luck coach Mike. Let’s make this happen.
I read these comments and you guys are looking thru rose colored glasses. This is more rebuilding and the administration wants us to be suckers again 20 plus years and counting. ONLY ONE THING WILL BRING BACK OUR TEAM - WHEN ATTENDANCE PLUMMETS AND THE POWERS THAT BE FINALLY GET THE MESSAGE . I am not wasting another penny on tickets. It is over. They had the answers in Cleuss or Pitino and they picked a guy who just got fired to save money. WAKE UP!!
Didn't you say you were leaving? Then, why do you continue to linger. If you're going to continue to post, do everyone here a favor and do it on Matt Doherty's Facebook page.
Thanks redken
For balance
We need a few cynical, negative naysayers so maybe he/she/they should remain :)
If a fan cannot enjoy this promising and new brave world of St. John’s basketball, my God when will they.
?

I'm expecting a very busy Monday and Tuesday from coach, it should be a very interesting week ahead a lot of moving parts. GO SJU

Likely already posted but thought it was
Worthy of a repeat - from
Pig Tail Nation:
Upon hearing the news that Gragg had hired Anderson Krzyzewski posted the following on a St. John's basketball fan site: "What a terrific hire for St. John's! Mike Anderson is a winner. Period. I have always been impressed with Mike going back to his days as an assistant coach under the legendary Nolan Richardson at Arkansas. He has a championship level pedigree and is an accomplished coach at the highest levels of our sport. He is going to love working with Mike Gragg as together they'll build an elite culture and basketball program at St. John's.

Interesting:
There also seems to be little doubt that Anderson passed on some recruits over the years because of his own recruiting standards. Academics and character were number one on his list which is why he is regarded as one of the cleanest recruiters in college basketball. One of his assistant coaches once said of him, "He avoids violating NCAA rules than aren't even rules."

Another interesting fact is at UAB , which is really not a high major,IMO, he had much more success in 4 years then we had in 20. In 4 years made 3 NCAAs, 1 rd of 32 and 1 sweet 16.

Was looking over the Hall board to see what they were saying about Anderson. Always good to see what our opposition has to say. Enjoyed this comment:

“I can’t imagine how Mike Anderson and his family can make such a radical cultural adjustment, but having said that I’ll say this: this guy scares the spit out of me ... always has. He and Bob Huggins (and now Chris Beard) regularly put the toughest, nastiest defensive teams in the country on the court every night. If he gets players and get comfortable here, watch out.”

As someone who knew very little about Coach Anderson prior to the hire I must say that I was very impressed with the person. He seems genuine. If I were a 18 or 20 year old I would love some of the things he said about being a family and caring about his kids personally. He also was clear about “work”that it takes to get better. That Mrs. A is also involved says a lot about the man.
Of course, kids make choices for different reasons and SJU is not for everyone. I for one am excited to see what he can do here.

The family type atmosphere is definitely something behind the scenes that can go a long way. I would think most, if not all of the players on the current roster do not have parents living in NY. Having a "Team Mom" is probably a very underrated aspect that players and their parents would probably appreciate. Coach was talking about having the team over for meals and such, seems like a nice genuine touch.

Thanks and “ if he gets players” -
I think we already “ know “ our new coach WILL get players!

I said I was not renewing my 3 season tickets. That has nothing to do with me following the team and posting in the future. I want the program to be successful but the administration is counting pennies and they will continue to do so and serve you the rebuilding juice until you make yourselves known by dropping your tickets. Let them play in an empty garden if that is what it will take. To all you kool aid kids out there it is more than 20 years and they still haven't rebuilt. Wake up!!!
Dee you say,' let them play in an empty garden" I understand your feelings regarding the administration but don't look to hurt the kids by not supporting and attending the games.

Have to say I'm thrilled with everything I'm seeing. I've already discussed his resume (very, very solid), but two things extremely important to me are effort and forming a strong connection with the players/community. In that sense CMA appears to be a grand slam. Most Arkansas fans still have a lot of respect for him as he is a man of high character. Pitino may have been fun, but we all would have felt a bit dirty and unsure of whether our wins would eventually have * next to them.

CMA is someone I can 100% support and believe he will be successful here. I was very open about how bad of a hire most candidates like Hewitt, Jones, Moser, etc would have been, so no Kool Aid drinking here. Fantastic hire by Cragg!

Seeing the respect from the razorback community makes me hopeful that not only will we get a good run with a quality hear coach, but that he'll leave a solid tradition behind with him. I'm only 47. I have another 60 years of Redmen rooting to do. Gotta think long term too. (=

60 years?
Wow!!!
Some of have 10 maybe 20 at the outset
So you have to keep cheering even when some of us are having a beer ( or ice tea ) with the Big Indian Joe Lapchik on the other side ( whatever is on the other side lol )

I am overly optimistic. I plan on seeing the 300th Birthday of America watching the fireworks over the East River...and I will still want to hear Neil Diamond, "America", in the background.

Now that we've had a few days to digest the end of this bizarre and often clownish coaching search, it it truly amazing that we were able to get Mike Anderson. Look at all the candidates that seem to have been seriously considered:

Bobby Hurley
Porter Moser
Tim Cluess (we all took him seriously, even if the higher ups did not)
Ryan Odom
James Jones
Paul Hewitt

Mike Anderson is better than all of them - and I don't think its a close call.

He's gotten a power conference school deep into the Dance, he's recruited at a high level, he's won consistently at three places, including two power conference schools. His teams have an identity and a toughness that we've lacked. And he's a good man who will run the program the right way. His only drawback - no local NY ties - is less and less relevant as recruiting becomes more and more national even at St. John's.

I would have been happy with Hurley, Moser or Cluess - but Mike Anderson is a better choice than all three.

Since Pitino was "pie in the sky", I'd agree that Anderson was the best choice available to us
Despite all of the shenanigans, in the end, we turned lemons into lemonade
I am really excited to see who is on CMA's staff and the recruits that they will bring in
The future of our program looks much brighter than it appeared to be about 10 days ago

Try telling that to Monte (I kid because I love).;) :)

Anyone know if CMA did an interview on WFAN (Francessa) or WESPN (Kay) 0r if any are scheduled? Would like to hear an extended interview with CMA (20 minutes or so).
