Mike Anderson - Recruiting, Coaching, Etc.

Myself and several fellow fans on this site since day one have had this theme:
we are fortunate to have Mike Anderson as our Head Coach;
the negative posters do not appreciate him and have rarely if ever shared positive suggestions or a better alternatives to what we now have in place:
Coach Anderson
AD Cragg
President S

With this triumvirate we are so much improved over  prior regimes
AND
we are headed in a fun and successful direction

These negative and positive themes have been repeated often like the
Hatfields and McCoys
Blue and Gray
Liberal v Conservative v Middle of the Roaders

some - even after a 20 W season and NCAA appearance - will likely complain or disappear from
the board
if they have kids I hope they don't disparage them like they sometimes do with our teenage and young college players

we are St.John's and
we are in the best shape in decades

thanks for all of the constructive comments above

So well said. Sherman

were in the best position in such a long time.   Mike Anderson is a professional coach.     Great Ad and now new president

I love the direction in which the program is going.  I hope CMA can continue for several years more and groom his successor.  I love the attacking nature of our play.  Our defense and offense will continue to improve as we get more skilled recruits coming aboard.  I wish CMA had been our coach the last several years and we could have avoided the frustration and disappointment of the two previous coaches.

I agree with all your points Knight, but not only the last 2 coaches.

Norm Roberts and Mike Jarvis will never be confused with Lapchick and Carnesecca.

CMA corrective action with Moore a while back seems to have been effective to both their credit;

Few days ago I posted on this thread about a former player of ours writing a letter to the new president and the AD urging a contract extention for CMA. Surprisingly there was not one comment by anyone on their thoughts on this matter. Anywho this question arose in my mind-has any of our coaches post Lou gotten a contract extention before being fired or cough "moving on"? I don't think so.

Mahoney got a big one after the suprising first year.  Some of that, I believe, kicked in as part of the original deal (thanks to the great first season), and the school added a few years bonus.  That's probably why we haven't done it since.

Norm had the rollover deal, but after the initial 5 years, I believe it became much easier financially, to let him go.

I did recall you posted that, but without naming the former player, wasn't sure how true this was.  Who was it ?

I don't think any coaches had an extension.

Do we even know what the terms of his contract are as far as years etc ? I dont remember anyone writing about it here or the papers and we prwtty much knew Mullins and Lavins and I think Norms also

I'm not necessaeily opposed but I'd want to see the terms first.

That being said if we stay on this trajectory I want this to be his last job and hin retire a Johnnie

My surprise was not about that point it was about lack of response to giving coach CMA a contract extension now or in near future. Believe me or not about former player but I've never even bothered to mention my close personal friendships we Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, Ali, Mantle, Namath, Jordan, Gretsky, Palmer, McEnroe, Brando, Eastwood, I could go on and on. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Things heading in right direction, and don't know length (I'd assume 5-6 years) but would like to see him get us to NCAA tourney before taking extension unless it's was only 3-4 years...which I doubt.

OK... now which former player wrote the letter?   /media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png

I think Coach Anderson is fine at his current weight. He may have some trouble if things get physical with Ewing or whoever but I assume that's why he brought in a guy like Paul Pressey.

Back to recruiting not sure if he remembers this but few month ago I think it might have been before the season started my buddy and super astute poster Panther told me CMA's biggest recruits would be Champ Posh and Wusu because it shows coaches not only does he have eye for talent but look what he can coach them into

Once again another brilliant observation by Panther

Likely why Pinzon and Traore will get every opportunity to earn their keep with decent minutes in freshman year.   The more that happens with the local area kids, the more trust will build locally with the coaches. Kids need to perform though. Fingers crossed.

I don't normally make bold predictions about recruits but I think Rafael Pinzon is going to be an absolute star for us. Maybe not right away as a freshman but hes an extremely smooth scorer and facilitator.

im so excited to see him next year play for the Johnnies

One of the most promising aspects of our player development and recent winning streak is that it begins to answer the question: "Why St. John's?".

When recruits (especially local) sit down to weigh their options with coaches, parents and other advisors, there are now some real tangible benefits to discuss.
