A few things that didn't make it into the St. John's story.
1. Anderson likes the edge freshman Posh Alexander and Dylan Wusu have.
10:27 AM · Sep 22, 2020·Twitter Web App

2. Anderson didn't say whether or not St. John's would go to Orlando for Preseason NIT. My read would be no with current quarantine guidelines for going to Florida. #sjubb

3. Anderson said teams took advantage of St. John's in paint last year and he doesn't expect that to happen this year with additions of Toro and Moore. #sjubb

4. I floated the idea of Posh Alexander starting, and while Anderson was complimentary of him, my guess is Rasheem Dunn will be the guy at the 1. Anderson likes him and believes he will be even better in year 2 in his system. #sjubb

5. There are expectations that Vince Cole will step into LJ Figueroa's role. Anderson believes he can, praising his shooting ability and skillset. #sjubb

6. Josh Roberts is coming along following shoulder surgery. He's practicing and did add some muscle in offseason. "He's got to get used to playing with it, to tell you the truth," Anderson said. #sjubb

Good post! I think Dunn will be in competition with Posh for minutes, and having two strong options at the position is good for the team. I suspect Dunn is rightfully starting at first, given his proven contribution last season, but will get pushed by Posh, especially if Posh plays well.

Cole should be compared to the reality of LJ, and not the image portrayed at the beginning of last season. Figueroa was thought of as an all conference player, perhaps first team, and perhaps in the running for player of the year in the BE. He wasn't close to that, and while he had a solid year, I don't ever remember him taking over games the way a first team player should. By that measure if Cole has a good first year, that should be enough for starters.

Josh Roberts is an interesting important piece. He has played really well against weak pre season competition, but looked totally overmatched against better BE players. I suspect he can contribute more in the BE, but likely will not become the dominating inside force he appeared ready to step into. Don't discount the CMA effect on players he puts his confidence in.

Lol well you succeeded. I remember there were rumblings about the possibility of them playing together, but it just seems like he's very happy at Pitt being a main guy. Would be awesome though.
Hurley is primed for a breakout year with ASU and he's already vastly improved their program. They just had a 1st round pick in the NBA. Ranked 7th nationally recruiting for 2020 including a 5*. They just went 20-11 (11-7), 22-10 the year before (NCAA year), 20-11 year before that. (NCAA year) so 3 straight years of 20+ wins and 2 tournaments, would be 3 most likely if last year's tourney happened. They finished 3rd each of the last 3 yrs. We haven't finished better than like 7th or 8th in a long time. And this is not beating a dead horse...someone argued that CMA is better than Hurley when there's no evidence of that if we're talking CMA at SJ so far vs. Hurley at ASU so far. Just being fair.
Mike, does Bobby Hurley have 18 winning seasons in a row? Not even close. In fact his first two seasons at ASU we’re losing seasons in a weak PAC 12 stretch. CMA came here and had a winning season right away when no one expected him too. If you want to be fair , you have to acknowledge that.

Sure, Hurley doesn't have that and CMA does. It's a feather in the cap of CMA. However, we should be careful IMO reading too much into the over .500 thing. No casual college hoops fan considers barely over .500 a good season and certainly no pundits except maybe in a rebuilding year like we had last yr. But it's worth mentioning that at this level, you're supposed to take care of business in non con and get around 10 wins. Then all you have to do is win a handful or so of games in conference like we did to be over .500 overall. Our conference records have killed us recently. So while it was a good bar to set for CMA his first year and he cleared it, it will not be acceptable for much longer to simply be over .500 overall regardless of conf play record. Hurley has had good conference records. You need both a good conference record and overall record to make the tourney. 16-17 wins are solid for our situation last year, however it's not considered good by any respected pundit in a regular year. Would not consider it a success if all CMA did was have years like last yr. We need a big improvement in conference play.

2 things from this video.

1- Mcgriff can really handl ethe ball. Look to be a distributor. Really excited to see this kid.
2- The Duke of Earlington has picked up where he left off last season. Once his found his jumper, he was by far the best player on the team. I believe he makes an all big east team this year and is our MVP.

But if he improves this year as much as he improved last year, he will be getting a lot of burn,

We have no shortage of point guards and distributors which is a great thing. I don’t know if we have enough scorers, but it will have to be a team effort in that department. We certainly aren’t as small as we used to be either and have plenty of depth which will be our strength.

This year we will probably have a minimal pre conference schedule. Going .500 in the BE will be tough.

I know it's a short clip but my goodness Earlington's jumper looks completely different. Wasn't too long ago that his 3 pointers were hitting off the backboards. Congratulations on your development young man!

i think we showed last year that even without LJ and Heron on the floor the team had some good runs in them. this year, the key will be can this group, be consistent.

i don't think there's a go to scorer so i'm excited to see team ball. and i can't remember if we've ever been that way.....

That first Lavin team with Norm's players was extremely unselfish and very good, but the best team we've had for sharing the ball was the Artest, Barkley, Bootsy, etc team 20 years ago. They were a joy to watch.

Very happy that CMA is our coach, but do think that Hurley has a much higher ceiling. I don't think he'll reach that ceiling at ASU, since I expect that after a few winning seasons he'll he considered for every major coaching opening. That includes Duke. Also don't think he would have reached that ceiling here if he had come, since I still think he would have jumped ship when a better offer came along. Which is also why I'm happy CMA is here; I don't see him going anywhere at this point in his life.

Hurley may turn out to be a great coach. But, as of today whose resume is better?
