Mike Anderson - Recruiting, Coaching, Etc.

No big time SF recruit in their right mind would come here to sit behind the highly touted Vince Cole who was being recruited by like 3 or 4 middling power 6 schools. All of us on the board are convinced he's going to be a superstar because we've seen him play 4 minutes on a YouTube video.
How many PPG do you think Cole will average this coming season?
I honestly don't know because I don't have ESPNJUCO like everyone else here does apparently. Based off youtube highlights, and looking at his stats I think he could be at least a solid player, but he could also struggle at this level. We don't know. I'd venture to guess he'll average around 10-11 PPG next year.
I'm a little higher. I think 12-14 ppg. I don't think anyone really thinks he's the second coming. He'll hopefully be a nice piece this season, and add a few more ppg the following one.

WRT some of the replies on this thread, please see the Mission Statement / Code of Conduct which is posted at the bottom of the page.
Thanks
Any news on filling the last scholarship for this season? Is that still in a he staffs plans or will they save it for the 21 recruiting cycle?
With the fall semester having started two weeks ago, there can't be much time left (if any at all) to enroll a new student for this semester. So unless they plan on adding someone in the Spring Semester (transfer or kid from prep or high school who finishes earlier like DeSousa at Kansas), they will either hold the schollie or give it to a walk-on (which they did last year).

I think it's very fair at this point in time to be frustrated with the lack of recruiting for 21, and the fact that the last remaining 20 scholarship hasn't been filled. This notion that we have to give Anderson, but more so Cragg time to right the ship is going to be very repetitive quickly. Cragg came in with (and still has) an glowing reputation. I feel he is the right man for the job, but I want to see some results. Facility improvement has to be priority #1 and the fact that there has been only window dressing in that aspect sucks. Covid-19 is a hurdle for every school across the country and it hasn't stopped others with recruiting. It's just frustrating that we are always stuck in neutral.

Understand your frustration,I am also disappointed with 21recruiting to date And the last 20 scholarship not being filled

The title of this thread is Mike Anderson- Recruiting, Coaching, etc. Over the course of his career, Coach Anderson has shown that he can coach. Last year, when his two best players had subpar seasons, he was able to adjust. When Heron went down towards the end of the season, many on here were predicting doom and the end of his never having a losing season. It did not happen.

If we are talking about player development, no one on here can deny that Roberts, Earlington, and Williams all showed marked improvement last season. Caraher and Rutherford also contributed. Champagnie had a little slump in the middle of the season but came on at the end and was All Freshman Big East.

Some questioned his recruiting. Last week we received a commitment from ESPN 4* shooting guard Pinzon, who is our second recruit this year. There had been talk about not having New York kids on our team. Now that we have some who can play, let's support them.

How we got to discussing Repole is beyond me. If Repole wants to be involved, I am sure that he would be welcome. If he is a REAL St John's fan, he should recognize the job that Coach Anderson did last year and support the team. If he doesn't want to support the program, so be it.

Reading through the posts on here reminds me of people always wanting what they don't have. Whether it is Pitino, 5* recruits, Repole's money, etc. As long as St. John's is in the capable hands of Cragg and Anderson, personally, I have no desire to look anywhere else.

Since we now have competent leadership, it may be time to quit looking at who or what we don't have, and appreciate and support what we do have.

Excellent post, panther . I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately we on this forum seem to focus on the past and on what coulda shoulda woulda been. Like you, I am thrilled with Cragg and Anderson and can't wait for this season to start.

I regret that I have but one "thank you" button to give

In my defense, I only mentioned Pitino in the hypothetical situation where I donated $100 million and wanted to pick the coach.

It wouldn't have even occurred to me to name CMA at the time under that scenario, which I'm not proud of since I love the guy here in the real world.

This was not directed at you personally. Others on this site started complaining about how we missed the boat on Pitino once he went to Iona

It is as if I am married but a girl I had lusted after suddenly becomes available. I ignore her flaws and just give in to my infatuation. Forget the fact that she is only available because she cheated on her husband.. I'm different, she won't cheat on me. LMAO.

Have I mentioned the fact that I have a good wife who has shown that she wants to be with me and has given me no reason to believe that our relationship won't be successful.

Nah, I no longer indulge in adolescent fantasies.

they kicked Providence out of the Big East?
St. John's is ranked 9th in the BE and 40th nationally. That's quite impressive that the BE has 9 schools in the top 40. It would be nice to have that in the top 25 but 40 is better than it has been.
2 Villanova
6 Uconn
9 DePaul
13 SH
23 Georgetown
32 Butler
33 Xavier
35 Marquette
40 SJU
61 Creighton
PU has no recruits :)

For those who are interested in continuing the Repole discussion, a new thread has been created and the posts related to that topic have been moved from here to there (Repole).

And if the staff can land a big for '21 then we may yet hit the top 25 - especially if it's Kepnang

With Preseason NIT reportedly going to be held in a bubble in Orlando, Mike Anderson wouldn't say if St. John's still planned on participating. Considering quarantine guidelines in state, would seem unlikely. #sjubb

Too late to schedule our own NYC area bubble tournament with local teams?
