MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

Also you know who else we are missing- AJ Storr - look at his stat sheet. Wish Rick could have kept him, I know he wanted to. Its just odd to me why Storr would be willing to play for an inferior coach, Anderson, at the same school yet jets when Pitino comes. Only thing I can think of is that Wisconsin offered more money. Thoughts?

Just dropped 17 against #9 Tennessee and played 33 minutes.
17 points is good, but he took 20 shots to get there (7-20 from the floor). Not actually productive by those numbers.

I'm not crapping on Storr as I liked Storr and wished he had stayed with the program. But those aren't sound numbers.

Ledlum is really good at attacking off the dribble just needs to finish better
Watching Ledlum I was reminded of the great Charles Smith disaster for the Knicks. The pressure on Patrick was too much and they traded for a scoring forward, except what they got was a rhythm shooter, not a catch and shoot guy, and it allowed other teams to pack the paint versus Patrick and still get out to cover Smith with no difficulty. Ledlum's drives were toward the traffic around Joel and brought more traffic with thme, when they weren't stripped before he got close to the basket.

Luis averaged 11 PPG at a mid major, and has yet to step foot on the court for us. Not sure how you can make an arguement for him for anything until we actually see how he performs at this level, and over a period of time.
Luis has great size and is very skilled. Very good looking release and body control. Can probably create better and definitely will rebound better.

I really like Storr…not just as a shooter. He can really score in many ways and I think he could be a 20 ppg scorer as a senior or whatever the Wisconsin equivalent would be when you account for pace.

You can make a colorable argument for either guy at this point.

Reggie was s great player ! All American .

Would he alone have been able to clamp down on Mug of Mich? Don’t know and Reggie played a long time ago

I think Shamorie Ponds might have offset Mug . Shamorie could strip the ball a lot and was quick enough to maybe keep up.

As much as we liked Posh , it’s questionable whether he could have stayed with Mug either . Posh often was beaten off the dribble by bigger and faster guards . He’s forte was stealing the ball in the back court or coming from behind to get the takeaway .

At least ,Ponds would have made Mug work hard on the defensive side. Taking him to the basket or shooting from outside . But , we aren’t in fantasy BB mode .

I want to say this and maybe it’s old age but , I find myself agreeing more often than not with Dinkins and MJMaher a lot in their game analysis . And ,I ‘d like to think they find themselves reciprocating more on my posts as well . Bad blood is done from my side with both .

Before I get to the game , other than MJMaher catching the 8:32 to Huntington , I’m totally confused as to his eating routine last night .

Was it Keen’s Chop House first ? Or Tir Ana Nog ?
And ,post game it was a disappointing attempt to get Pizza at Rosa’s . Which then lead to a Street vendor for Philly Cheese steak with no cheese ? What’s the sequence here ?

But , not 1 Comment about IPA consumption ?

Mike , can you clear that up on food and drink ?

As for the Game , I don’t think anyone is giving up on this team but , everyone in St John’s nation from Fr Shanley on down got a wake up call last night . RP included . Martelli did a great job countering everything Rick tried . I actually think Phil is a better Coach than Howard but , that’s not germane .

I woke this AM and felt Mich was a 2 seed and we were a 15 seed . We stuck close for most of the first half but , the lineup at the end of 13 minutes was puzzling and caused us to go down 10 .

Optimism reigned for the 2 nd half and we had a chance to cut into their lead but , didn’t take advantage of their 2 minute drought as we were equally ice cold .

After that , the game got out of hand and we didn’t seriously challenge .

Clearly , they were lighting quicker than we are and they exploited that to perfection . They routinely blew past us and scored .

Dinkins questioned why RP didn’t go to Zone to counter and I wondered the same thing . Our man to man wasn’t all due to bad defense , they were just faster and better than we are .

I also thought they were more talented at every position , except for Soriano . I think Gus said Burnette was a 5 star but, had drifted to Texas Tech , Alabama before Mich .

Mug had to be highly recruited as well and his speed was too much for us .

Tshetter burned us from outside and is a tough
Player .

A lot of comment was made trying to justify our lineup being unfamiliar with each other as they all came from different schools . The point was made that could apply to Mich as well .

In the days of the Portal and NIL, it’s going to be rare for teams to play 4-5 guys who are together for more than a year or 2. That’s reality .

Lastly , who ever RP had scouting Mich in their first 2 games should be taken to the woodshed today , Rick claimed he was surprised about Mug’s speed and Burnette’s shooting . He also was unprepared for Tshetter taking Soriano away from the basket and then draining some long range bombs . Scouting needs to be tightened. up too .
A zone would've kept McDaniel at bay from exploiting our D on dribble-drive.

I think if he could do it over again, he may wish he kept Slazinski, who is averaging 16.5 ppg for WV so far and is exponentially more skilled than Ledlum.

Losing that one player took us from a good shooting team to a less than average shooting team IMO
I believe this game will be good for us in the long run. These kids needed a bit of a wake up call. Michigan came to play for the National championship and we did not. They need to realize quick that SJU/NYC is always going to get our opponents BEST effort. Plus, I think Michigan is going to be a very good team this year.

Pitino will have them on point for the Charleston classic. I’d be shocked if we don’t end up playing for the title on Sunday.

Lace ‘em up a little tighter next time gentlemen and bring it. The city has your back!
I would have hoped losing to Pace would have humbled them. If not they will not humble easily. I do agree this game helps, if we could all easily find issues the coaching staff can too. Not as easy to illuminate all of your weaknesses, or how weak they are, versus teams with a NET over 250.

I am not particularly negative about where the dust settles over the season, but I suspect my expectations are on the lower side.

Last night they seemed leaderless and rudderless, with no-one to call them into a huddle and say "Let's get our shit together and stop the bleeding." That's what you get when you fire a whole team. These guys may all be 22, but they seem a little overmatched by major conference basketball, which very few of them have experienced. Hopefully someone will emerge....a la Posh Alexander, who without Curbelo around might have had a very nice senior season---and probably will have one for Butler. Nice to see Drissa get a few minutes....

BECAUSE, all he got from CRP were rave reviews, after all the team
workouts.
CRP said that he was our best player out there ( maybe excluding Soriano)

The pressure of Big East competition still awaits him, but high praise
from CRP makes him, not a sure thing, but a good bet.

I’m pissed but there are a lot of definitive statements being made after 2 games. Be careful what you say.

Also I don’t get why people are holding onto former players so much. Not like they won anything while here. It’s not like Hardy Kennedy and Harrison left. Head scratcher to me.

Everyone just relax. This is only the 2nd real game and the first against a major competitor. Last year we had no right to even be on the same floor as michigan, this year we do. Also know that a few of our players are literally just coming back from injury. We will be fine. It takes time for a team to jell. Plus a loss to michigan wont hurt us in the long run either.
Also realize Pitino isnt GOD. Also realize that Uconn just lost to a team who nobody remembers there name over the weekend. This team will be well coached fun to watch. Some poster said they wanted posh over Dingle? Seriously? Dingle can score the only thing posh had is his heart and defense.
But as knight said no change after halftime (maybe rick gave them the give me good 3 minutes speech). I for one and sitting back and enjoying every win and yes every loss. Last year we lost to well everyone and we didnt play as a coached team. Enjoy it everyone. Rome wasnt built in a day and pitino literally assembled this team in a month!

Nostalgia---------players that they enjoyed/loved at the time they played
Their memories of them are still very strong and even precious.
That's a good thing no?

This.

I wanted Posh and Storr back really bad. But they are gone.

I forget who wrote this last night but someone posted “I pictured Soriano, posh, Wusu, Storr and Gardner beating their asses”

What makes anyone think a Mike Anderson team would’ve won last night? Maybe our press would’ve bothered them a little more but we would’ve likely had 20 less points too… so it’s all kind of a wash.

Longing to see the Mike Anderson era again after two games of Pitino sure is…. A take

It’s a good thing that fans still have attachment to our old players yes. But that doesn’t mean we have to lie to ourselves about what another year of Mike A’s team would’ve been like

There were a lot of definitive statements the other way heading into the season. The market is correcting itself a bit.

This team obviously gets much better by the end of January, but there were some things exposed last night that go beyond just scheme or experience.

With that written, players understanding their weaknesses and their roles will help a lot. We have to live or die with Dingle as the man.

Me, I don’t understand the love affair with Storr. He has potential but like my first impression of Dingle, he does little to affect the game except when he has the ball. Jury definitely still out with me for sure about Dingle but not a big Storr fan at all.

Why are some even mention anderson or his players? Come on now! What did his players win? NOTHING. What did Pitino see in them? Honestly outside of Posh who was offered but decided nahh, then relax. I cant believe some are saying they miss that crew.

How about this.... enjoy the players that our COACH brought in. Besides anderson and Pitino in the same sentence DOES NOT BELONG.
