MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

I'm not sure if this still exists, but MSG used to offer "student tickets" for about $10. Show any valid student ID (any high school, college, etc) and you could get the tickets no questions asked. I took advantage of this many times as an undergrad, grad student, and even once I was no longer in school lol.

That was in the Hoover Administration

yeah, so my section which is 222 is now $44 and I paid $98.

Marquette is right now $98, and the Michigan game tell me to wait until a few days before the game and prices will drop $54.

Excuse me, I'm just pissed, but I guess if they can get away with it, then why not over price right?
Just expect people to catch on.
Pricing seems to be all over the place in that section. You have one set of row 6 tickets listed at $48.75 and a set of Row 15 tickets at $98.75?

Not only are garden tickets for students still very cheap, the school offers buses to get there as well.

I will say I spoke to someone in the department today and they expect a very very good student turnout well over 1200 students

SJU press release

On Monday, Pitino will face off with Michigan for just the fourth time in his coaching career. The Red Storm and Wolverines will also meet for just the sixth time in a series that dates back to 1965. The last meeting between the two programs was on Dec. 3, 2000, when St. John’s earned a 97-83 victory at the BB&T Classic in Washington D.C.

The series with the Wolverines began on Jan. 2, 1965, as St. John’s defeated Michigan, 75-74, in legendary Head Coach Joe Lapchick’s final season at the helm. Sonny Dove starred for St. John’s with a 23-point, 18-rebound performance in the ECAC Holiday Festival matchup at MSG. Seven years later in the same midseason tournament, Billy Schaeffer led five Johnnies in double figures to an 85-83 victory over Michigan on Dec. 28, 1972. Schaeffer registered 22 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of assists in the win.

St. John’s holds a 4-2 mark in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, most recently earning a 70-50 victory over Nebraska at Carnesecca Arena last season. Soriano registered 17 points and 18 rebounds in 33 minutes against the Cornhuskers. The Johnnies look to improve to 4-0 at home in the first edition of the Gavitt Tip-Off Games at Madison Square Garden.

The Red Storm, which owns a 439-312 overall record (.585) at MSG, will play its earliest game at The Garden since the team’s season opener on Nov. 13, 2003, against No. 23 Marquette.

Michigan (2-0) is coming off a 30-point victory over Youngstown State. Will Tschetter shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, for 20 points in 18 minutes off the bench on Friday.

Olivier Nkamhoua, who is the team’s leading scorer with 21.0 points per game, registered a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double against Youngstown State.

No, the whole section was $98, now they're all $44, feel like I should get the $54 back.
Maybe you're looking at a different site? I'm looking at individual tickets.

I'm sure when VJ Edgecombe looks up on Monday from his seat behind the St. John's bench and sees 8000+ empty seats he will understand all the reasons our fans stayed home and commit on the spot. I sure this is happening at all his other official visits.

Great coach - check
Great venue - check
Talented squad - check
Nil donor base- check
Fan base - remote
Top recruits like Edgecombe are looking for one thing above all others: which college program will give them the best chance of a career in the NBA? That equates to quality of coaching staff + playing time. Empty seats at games are way down the list of priorities, I’m sure.

I agree. I seriously doubt the other schools he visited priced upper deck tickets at $100. My tickets in the LOWER bowl are $70. In what world does that make sense? Are you really suggesting that no matter what SJU charges people should pay?

If the school valued a full house tomorrow they shouldn‘t price out much of the fan base. And if MSG is setting the prices, that would be another example of the athletic department giving up control of their own product, and not managing a vendor/partner.

I see a trend.

Beast, you can either trust me on this, or look at the archives, but I have also chided people on this board for not attending games the last few years. One of the things I have brought up was what a value play the games were at Carnesecca. But this was the opposite of that. And now at the last minute prices are being slashed where they should have been all along.

Hopefully people jump on that.

Xavier Men’s Basketball season tickets:

2023-24 Season ticket pricing map (PDF) - Xavier University Athletics (goxavier.com)

Range from $250 to $7000 per seat, with the top SIX seating categories ranging from $1050, $1600, $1800, 2150, 2750, 4325, 6000 and $7000 PER TICKET

As far as I can tell, this is so far above what St. John's is charging with a HOF coach, a loaded roster, and most home games in the world's most famous (and priciest arena).

I will research what other schools charge, but I know Creighton sold out their entire season in season tix and are not cheap.

I know, like, and respect you, and obviously if prices are moving around, that's a concern, but if MSG is doing this, I don't think they have invented this process just for St. John's.

Just based on Xavier prices, it looks like our tickets, in an area where everything costs more than Ohio, is a bargain.

I will say this and then stop. If $100 for the upper level is a bargain then I will soon be another person just watching the games from home. Maybe it’s that simple, that this will only be for the wealthy. Which has never been the case, but things change.

Xavier is a winning program. They have made it to the Sweet 16 three times in the last 8 years. People pay up for a winning product. St John’s is a moribund program. It’s not a bargain at these prices. As others have said, people will start paying up when we win.

Apologies, I know I said I was done but I hadn’t clicked on the link. Now I have. Seats in the upper bowl are $450 for the season, or less than $30 per game. A far cry from $100. Seats in what I consider the same general spot as I have at MSG are $1,600 for the season, I pay a little more than that with zero complaints on the price.

By citing their premium seats you are comparing apples to Filet Mignon.

Wait, you pay $1600 per seat ? I have great seats and i think i pay less than that.

I thought i n paid about 2600 for 2 seats near midcourt in low rows in both places

Xavier has been a winning program for quite some time and the Cintas center holds only 10,250, simple supply and demand in this case

So you are agreeing that with a loaded roster ,hof coach, and world class venue our tickets are a bargain.

Especially since coaches picked us to finish above xavier in the big east this year.

Thank you for proving my case. See you Monday, but prob not this monday.

Again you can rationalize any way you want not to buy tickets, and not going is your prerogative, but honestly we have a mom and pop fanbase of mostly older men.
