MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

Do the Mets, Jets, Giants, Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Islanders price that way for 16-21 year olds? How many non students 21 and under would go to games. SJU already steeply discounts sju student tix at MSG and it is free at CA for students. We've given away tickets for years to church groups, cyo, cub scouts, girl scouts etc, and I think it has negligible impact on building a fan base.

Cutting prices on the same tickets? I'm not sure they've done that but I would take it up with Melissa at the SJU ticket office. It's valid but not unheard of as the Mets often discount tickets during the season with no recompense to those who bought prior to the ticket deals.
The Mets and islanders do have steep discounts during the week for HS and college kids- that’s how you grow your future fans.

We are not a pro team and have not had success, you need to grow fans.

Coach Pitino has said it many times, we need to draw the NY college basketball fan, not just students and alumni.

I am a season ticketholder and just look at Ticketmaster, prices definitely cut in half and it was a terrible approach.

My unproven theory is that they wanted to sell a lot of MSG packages and figured crazy prices for the game-by-game sales would drive more people to the packages. As well as gauge the opposing team fans. And as I don't have any data as to how the packages have sold maybe it worked out well overall for the school.

I'm trying to hope there was some logic involved.

There are always reasons not to go to a game, always.

During the august and september of Jacob deGrom's two Cy Young seasons, I'd go often and with little fan interest, would buy tix for as little as $20 in delta section behind home plate. I did exactly that one year on 9-11 and the Mets honored First responders in a first class way. DeGrom pitched dazzling games in that and the other starts where he was as good as Seaver, Gooden or any other mlb pitcher before or since. Fans can be just plain dumb in New York.

Here we have an easily top 5 coach of all time, doing what he does best - teaching and improving a team- with a talented roster, in a world class (maybe world best) venue, against a historically great opponent (formidable even in a down year).

The word IS out, no question. Most of my outerwear is sju branded and I'm constantly engaged by strangers about this team. A worker in Costco Riverhead 60 miles from campus, stopped me and said "C'mon. What are they doing playing Stony Brook?" Like i said, sport fans are aware and reading.

If I was working in the city tues-thurs, monday i'd go into the office, maybe make a few brownie points, then head to msg for a great start time (the 9.pm starts are killers)

I ran into an old friend from my schoolyard bball days in a supermarket who i had not seen in 30 years. He remembered he'd almost always see me on tv since me alumni hall seats were a few rows above the sju bench. He's going on monday and we will meet up.

Our fans sadly are missing the train on a great run. For me i learn more in person, and the in game fan experience is 1000 times better than at home on tv. To boot in game supports the team and fuels a home court advantage.

Always readons to stay home but finally there are compelling reasons that are worth the price of tix.

10K is not a disappointing number for a Monday night w tickets starting at 100 a pop in the 200 section. The Saturday MSG big East games will sell out. This isn’t a casual fan game. The same die hards that show up Wednesday at 830 vs butler on campus.

The casual fans show up Saturday at noon vs Nova.
That 100 a pop in the 200 section is the reason that I only have tickets to 2 games, that's rough for someone who's working paycheck to paycheck.

I seen the B.C game is in the 40s at Barclay center, and think they're only seeling group sales ubs atleast for now, but don't want to see BC and Hofstra. I seen on vivid the Marquette game at MSG the cheapest is $56, now that I could work with, I;'ll wait alittle longer to see if that gets into the 40s, but not waiting to long.

Just got tickets to the Creighton game on Vivid.

May change with Pitino
But even when we were good Cuse, Nova, Gtown and Duke were at least a 50/50 split at garden

Build some momentum, win some games, and the fans will flock. SJU always picks up the "casual" NY sports fan. We haven't had any semblance of momentum since Lavin and "maybe" Mullin's last year where I believe we drew pretty well for our Garden games. Regardless, if we come out and compete Monday the fans will be loud, and 10K in that building can be absolutely electric.

I'm sorry but in Pitino's first game as a SJU coach in MSG, they somehow have to dig down and find a way to win Monday, they just have to.

Whoa, so now ticket's in the 200 are now $44, guess I should have waited, next year I'll know.

I know Michigan is a better program historically but I believe we are considered better this year and will probably be a slight favorite
I expect us to win

And let’s not pretend that all of SJUs issues have been solved by hiring Pitino. I mean, it’s 11/11 and the tickets for the three UBS games aren’t even on sale yet. Do not be surprised when those end up sparsely attended.

When I buy concert tickets I go on Ticketmaster once and if I see what I want I buy them. I don‘t look twice. Whatever the school is doing by releasing sections here and there has to be losing them sales. Based on what I saw a month ago I thought the lower bowl was sold out a month ago and it wasn’t.

You can’t sell tickets that you don’t put on sal
I'm sure when VJ Edgecombe looks up on Monday from his seat behind the St. John's bench and sees 8000+ empty seats he will understand all the reasons our fans stayed home and commit on the spot. I sure this is happening at all his other official visits.

Great coach - check
Great venue - check
Talented squad - check
Nil donor base- check
Fan base - remote

It's my understanding that The Garden calls the tune on ticket prices, not us

Saw 2 txts in Section 120 on Ticketmaster that are going for $67

Lots of txts in 200 sections for $44-$47
yeah, so my section which is 222 is now $44 and I paid $98.

Marquette is right now $98, and the Michigan game tell me to wait until a few days before the game and prices will drop $54.

Excuse me, I'm just pissed, but I guess if they can get away with it, then why not over price right?
Just expect people to catch on.
