I think of the NCAA the way I think of Avery Brundage, malignant, biased, and so filled with self-interest that very little else gets through. Given our history (Erick Barkley and last through the clearing house going all the way back to Joe Lapchick taking his team to the NIT instead of the NCAA in the early '60s) if there is anything about Mr. Chandler that presents an opportunity to hurt STJ they will take it. On the other hand if he gets the NCAA stamp of approval and Lavs wants him, I hope he is at STJ. Getting played by a street agent is much more a sign of youth and neediness than it is of bad character.
I have been involved for the past 20 years with a program that trains recovering drug abusers in specialized counseleing skills for working with mentally ill drug abusers. Among the students have been enough All-NYC and All-Metro high school stars (including several NBA draft choices) to beat all of Norm's team and the Jarvis teams minus Fran's recruits. The main problem with recovery, rehabilitation, and redemption is that a fall is a necessary precursor. If Mr. Chandler has learned from getting played and done the academic and self-examination work to progress on and off the court, then welcome aboard.
