Mets

O's just signed Davis to a 7 year deal. Lets hope that pushes them out of the Cespedes market.

The wire services made it seem that it was an either or. I think they floated the Cespedes interest at a bargain price (1/2 of the total deal that Davis had turned down) to rattle him - and it looks like it worked. The Mets won't get Cespedes unless there is absolutely no market for him. Anyone watching baseball from August to mid Sept knows that even with flaws, Cespedes can carry a pennant race team on his back, something very few guys in baseball can do.

Ian Kennedy gets 5 years, 70 million from the Royals. It is pretty sick to think of why Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, and maybe even Matz would command in the open market when their time arrives.

The question will be how many of them will we be able to keep
That's why it's so important to spend and try to win now while we have them all
The window will be starting to close in the next 2-3 years
Give Cespedes 3 years - at this point, it might be the best offer available to him

Maybe I am wrong but didn't someone, Maher?, say they sat in the box with Ricketts? If so, congrats, I owe you a beer!

Yeah it was me. I sat in his owners box with him when they played at citifield. Other than baseball we talked traveling for like 2 hours. Very cool guy. ( other than that article. lol ) We've exchanged emails afterwards. Hopefully when they play here again he comes and I can hang out with him again or next time I'm in chicago. Very down to earth guy

We actually have a lot in common other than me not being a billionaire. LOL

We travel to the same places so I just gave him a bunch of travel recommendations for his vacation with his wife to Mendoza a few months ago

You seem like a nice guy so I think you are different then him. Anyone who says bad things about Met fans are A-holes.

Best case scenarion next season is the strike gold in the july selloff market. I dont see the mets paying any of their statters 150-250 million which each could command

Thx. Just to clarify though because I just read the article in the post on this but the one who said this crap about the met fans was Tom's brother Todd. It wasnt Tom the one that I met who runs the team

Todd I think was the youngest of the kids. Their father was actually the founder of ameritrade

I'm not sure what involvement Todd has with the team other than being a part owner since they bought the team with family money but Tom is definitely the one who runs it. Kind of like John Mara with the giants

Bastardo to mets

now sign freaking cespedes

Bastardo is pretty good but will give us some heart attacks with his wildness. An upgrade over Clippard imo.

Sources: #Nationals’ offer to Cespedes is for five years. #Mets unwilling to go beyond three. Dollars not known.

Mets actually have not officially offered him anything. Sad thing is Wilpon's probably happy he got offered 5 years so that they don't have to defend why they didn't sign him if some team got him for 3 years.

I'm holding on to the crazy notion that they publicly show disinterest, then swoop in and get him for the lowest possible price. Might be extremely unlikely, but the notion is comforting and I'm sticking with it.

It'll come down to how much of a risk-taker Cespedes and his advisers are.

Guaranteed $90m to $100m over the next half decade with Nats.

-or-

$20-25m for one year with the Mets with the chance to strike $150m+ next year following a great season and post season. Or get nailed in the head, never play again and leave $70m to $80m on the table.

To me the answer is easy.

Cespedes is not a saber metric player, Alderson doesn't like him because of his OBP.
I think Cespedes in the National clubhouse could be very entertaining.
If the Mets sweep in and grab him, I will see the positives about it and be satisfied.
If he goes to DC, I will see the positives about it and be satisfied.

DISCLAIMER: I reserve the right to change my perspective, depending on how he plays this year.

And if he doesn't resign with the mets, do not despair. You never know who's going to become available as the season progresses, and Alderson did a bang up job last year.

Really good analysis about Cespedes not being a Sandy player based on OBP.

Was last year your first season as a Met's fan? With the Mets, there is ALWAYS reasons to despair. The 86 team was supposed to be a dynasty, and every other WS team was a one year wonder.

I still cling to the feeling of overwhelming joy of trading Allen and Ownby for Mex. plus how pumped I was when Kid 8 came to America.

Fear not, I will be driving the misery train if the Mets fall flat this year.
