Mets

MEET THE MATZ! (one of the dailies will do that as a headline probably)

Wow. What a debut.

This staff is rounding out so nicely for the future.

And to all who want a DH throughout baseball...

this young man is a BASEBALL PLAYER. Scruffin' it up on the base-paths, hit and run, line drives...what a throwback.

Please put a major league team behind these pitchers.

today was a nice day again with hope

Going to the game on wed with the owner of the chicago cubs. That should be fun and hopefully we beat them down

Even with a lineup that makes the 1969 Mets look like the 1927 or 1961 Yankees, Matz' debut raises hope to sky high levels. A rotation of Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler could be the deepest rotation in Met's history. In the meantime, Colon and Niese aren't half bad.

In the wildest fantasies in any 12 year old's head about his own major league debut, there are few that played out in reality the way Steven Matz' debut did. As my son said, this was simply the greatest day of this kid's life. And, like the kid from Brooklyn who coaches SJU, he's a local kid.

Wilpons are foolish not to be buyers for a bat or two in July.

Can they package Colon to an AL contender that needs an innings eater, and throw in Montero who is hurt but a talent, get the AL pitching buyer to send Montero and a prospect of their own on to an AL seller, and get an outfield bat from an AL seller?

Getting a bat is going to be a huge problem for numerous reasons:
1. No matter what they say, Wilpons will not ok adding one more dollar to payroll.
2. Will not part with any of the young pitchers or Conforto for a bat becuase they are really good but also becuase they are all cheap.
3. Not getting anything for anyone other than stud pitchers or Conforto.
4. Even if they could take on a big contract w/o giving up one of the Pitchers or Conforto you are limited in what you can get. Have to keep third base open until Wright officially retires becuase of the remote chance he does come back there is too much money infested in him.
They also won't admit mistake or pay Cuddyer to be a bench player.

Trading Colon for prospects will take about $10 million off payroll. If they can get another team to kick in some cash on a salary dump on a trade for a bat, they could offset Colon's salary.

Would like to see us trade Niese and Cuddyer to the Dodgers for Ethier. Speaking of the Dodgers how about that brilliant move loser Alderson made not resigning Turner a few years back. Here's a kid who can hit and play multiple positions. Oh wait, I forgot the hopeless Wilpon's would have to pay him.
Bring back Minaya.

For at least the last 6 years, the Mets have been sellers in July. Now that they're in the hunt for a playoff spot, in the biggest sports market in the world, it's time for Wilpon to open the checkbook and allow Alderson to find and make the proper deals between now and the trade deadline. Failure to do such indicates how bad a owner Wilpon really is.

That botched play is the straw that broke the camels back for me. Send Terry home on the next road trip and make him pay for his own bus ride home. Let's bring in a young manager who knows how to MANAGE

I hate Terry Collins. I think a guy like Wally could get so much more out of this team. It's clear neither the fans nor the players respect the guy.

In terms of trade, man, I want Frazier from Cincy! I think we could get the deal done too. They value Joey Votto and Jay Bruce over Frazier in the long run and Frazier is due for a big raise in arbitration this winter and is very unlikely to be retained when his contract expires after next season. Cincy has an awful farm system as well, so they could use some young talent. They are also set to lose their ace, Cueto either via trade in July or in the offseason. I'm sure they could make use of a 28 year old lefty like Niese with a year and a half left on a contract that includes team options for 2017 and 2018. I'd be willing to part with a boatload of talent like Plawecki, Montero, Reynolds, and Cecchini (or even Nimmo if it came down to it).

If that can't be done, I'd like Upton from San Diego. He'd come much cheaper, but the Mets would probably have to find a taker for Cuddyer and eat some salary.

While I agree with the Wally Backman comment, no way this organization has the cojones to try such a thing. And it would be a disaster waiting to happen. Wally has that kind of SetonHallcoachCrazy in him. He wouldn't last too long. Too bad, as I think we all think that if he was managing, if nothing else, the Mets would play better fundamental baseball.

I'm not sure I've ever seen such great pitching surrounded by a non-roster. Seriously, you could UPGRADE EVERY POSITION. I doubt the Mets have a top 10 player in the NL (out of 15 teams) at any non-pitching position (D'Arnaud might have been the exception). Murphy a DECENT hitter who ain't much on D, Granderson may have already peaked this year. Lagares, great glove, but bat? Flores, much like Muphy, a DECENT hitter, but nothing special, especially considering his defense. Tejada? He got that Rafael Santana bat. It's just a pathetic mess. Really is.

Time to ante up. This team keeps trying to do things on the cheap. Cuddyer was a casualty waiting to happen on so many levels. I never liked that signing, and it's like Jason Bay all over again. Good guy, good teammate, but DONE. Just done. This team needs a Mike Piazza type trade in the worst way.

Hung out with the owner Thomas Ricketts of the cubs in his box tonight most of the game. We lost but but a real good guy but damn our offense is brutal. He couldn't believe what a waste of pitching we have with our crap offense

Nice beer too

Look at the enthusiasm from Maddon at the end of the game. We need a manager like that. Plawecki not taking a swing in the final at bat with the tying runs on base made me as sick as the botched bunt.

The Mets are really socking the ball,
Knocking those home runs over the wall!
