Was taking deGrom out there the worst move, no, it was not. But the Mets have a finisher not finishers and that is why I would have let deGrom pitch the 8th. He was throwing great, the best he had thrown all game. I am old school and there is zero evidence that there is any correlation between pitch counts and pitchers injuries. Harvey has been on pitch counts and still blew his arm out, so did Strasberg, so did Wheeler, so did deGrom for that matter. Giving deGrom the 8th is what I would have done but I don't think taking him out was a horrible move at all.. He is not pitching on 3 days rest and in any playoff you win the game in front of you, tomorrow will take care of itself. Obviously it worked out fine for the Mets. Having said that, I give no credence to pitch counts, IMO they are nonsense because 100 pitches has become the magic number for ALL pitchers which makes no sense on any level. It is funny to me that with all the emphasis on year round and state of the art conditioning, modern medicine, etc. yesterday's athletes had less injuries and were more durable than today's. Several reasons for that but IMO and many others the complete emphasis on one sport at way too early an age plays a big part but that is another discussion.I have posted a million times I don't get modern baseball, DeGrom is dominating, throwing hard and loose and you take him out.....why?
Marillac just wrote the same exact thing on our met Facebook group page. literally just wrote it. lol
He threw 120 pitches and they could need him to turn around on 3 days.
You are assuming Matz is starting game 4? I didn't have a problem with him coming out then. Had the ump and Cuddyer not kept screwing him I could have easily thrown a full game. He got it into the 8th and gave it to the finishers.

That was one of the best playoff pitching performances in Met history - maybe the best.

Loved the way he threw mostly fastballs then finished the Bums with change ups and curves.
Did you guys forget we WON. Hell yes. TC got the job done, who cares about the moves that were made, they were apparently the right ones, because we're up 1-0. All that matters is winning, and thats what we did. +180 money line was glorious too.
. Yes I know we won, however, I made the point about deGrom pitching the 8th before the inning started, it was and is just conversation. More interesting than betting and much more educational (just kidding)Did you guys forget we WON. Hell yes. I thought I was getting ripped paying 230 a ticket for three. And with fees it came out to 820 total. Now I could sell those tickets for 600 each minimum! Still going to the game though LGM!!!!!
cheapest tix now over $380 including fees. This is like watching the google ipo

I listed my tickets and 10 minutes later got cold feet. The tickets aren't even good and I was charging 730 a pop for those ten min

Darling explained pitch count comparisons to those of a generation ago perfectly a few weeks ago. He offered that when he pitched, you would pace yourself as a pitcher and not throw as hard as you could every pitch. He continued that today, pitchers throw as hard as they can from the first pitch until they are out of gas - usually around 100 pitches or so. Many of these guys become very hittable when they reach 110 pitches - Harvey's ERA after 100 pitches is over 6.00.
Looking at the Mets young guns, this is true of all of them - throw mid to high 90s from the first pitch through their last pitch.
I remember ten years ago, El Duque would throw an assortment of pitches, a 60-something per hour slurve, to an 82 mph fastball. I'd be at games where he knew it was his last inning, and then all of a sudden he'd bust an 85, then an 87, then an 89 mph fastball. He knew he couldn't do that for 7 innings, but he still had a near 90 heater he could torch if we wanted too, and it came in handy late when hitter that they had already seen his best fastball in the low 80s.

Haaa. You can't sell. Who the hell knows when we are getting back here again. But a $1500 profit is nice spending money
If we win tonight I'm going to be buying game 1 for next series at 12am to lock them in because if these are skyrocketing so much I don't even want to think about what's going to happen with those.
Buyers remorse. We should have bought more and then scalped them but I had no idea they'd be going this high
Just went to Dicks Sporting goods today to get new mets hooded sweatshirt for monday

My son's introduction to MLB and the Mets was as a 9 year old when I started buying 30 game season tix packages. With my older kids in colleges, he was my frequent companion. We were at the pennant clincher and all the playoff games. We (and all fans in our section) were standing on our seats in a light misting rain when Endy Chavez made what could have gone down as the best outfield catch in Mets history had we only won.
Now, the 9 year old kid is a college student closing in on manhood. He is coming home just for us to go together. I felt we just had to be in the building, for old times sake before the boy is gone forever. I paid a crazy price, but it will be special for us to be in the building on Monday before he goes back to school early Tuesday morning.
