Mets

There is no doubt Murphy is a bonehead. Just as there is no doubt that's who I want up with the game on the line.

agreed that Murphy is the guy you want up in a clutch situation.

What was worse? Murphy's boneheaded bizarre baserunning 2 nights ago or Cespedes just standing at the plate as strike 3 went to the backstop.

As awesome as he has been you get the feeling that six years of Cespedes might turn into a disaster at some point.

Isn't this his fourth team in a short time?

Once again we made some no name starter look like a Cy Youmg pitcher. Did his stuff look good on tv? All I could tell from the outfield was he was throwing strikes.

He looked exactly the same way he did when he beat us his first time. BTW, I believe this was his first win after nine previous starts.

A soon to be loss is a win. Magic number 6

Thanks Baltimore !!
. Agreed, only positive on a night where the Mets pretend again this is spring training rather than a pennant race. But hey baseball only survived 130 or so years without pitch counts, inning maximums and skipped starts so I guess it was long overdue.

what's up with clipped lately. Holy cow he stinks lately

btw #6 is Wally's number

If Clippard doesn't start getting the opposition out Reed will be our eight inning reliever. And rightly so. This 26 year old throws nothing but strikes, mostly fastballs low in the strike zone and some very nice sliders down in to the lefties. Addison loves being with the Mets.

Huge win last night (every September win is huge). John Niese was John Nice, and secured his rightful place on the post season roster if there was any doubt at all.

Daniel Murphy is a legitimate major league hitter. He is also the reason players hold up fingers to indicate the number of outs, why coaches position professional players, and why even junior varsity players are instructed to run possibility through your head when you are at bat, on the bases, or in the field. In that manner, baseball is an incredibly cerebral game, and players use the time between pitches to assess the game situation and be prepared when the ball is hit their way, when a line drive is hit while they are on the bases, etc. Murphy's problem is that it appears that none of that thought process takes place at all, and as a result makes some incredibly stupid plays in the field. Billy Martin would have buried him on the bench by now, or buried him somewhere.

Having said that, huge huge win last night, and all the Nats could do was watch another significant nail (7 nails to go) was drilled into their coffin. As Yogi Berra said, It ain't over, till ...

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Murphy is the DUMBEST baseball player I have ever seen play.

Backman!

Would love to see it but Alderson and Backman would be the oddest of odd couples!! But I do think Collins is gone and I think he knows it, hence his tirade about having to sit Harvey down the other night.

You really believe Collins is gone? If we get into the playoffs and or World Series no way they let him go, especially when there is talk about Collins being up for Manager of the Year. And as you mentioned Alderson and Backman are not compatible.

. Wally Backman is far from the only possible replacement. Yes, I don't expect Collins back but I certainly could be wrong. I would not have a problem if he is back, not the best or worst manager and he obviously deserves credit for the job he has done this year.

You knew a HR was coming when they said Famlia hadn't given up a run in quite a while. Typical jinx.

3-6 on a home stand against the Marlins, Yanks, and Braves. Once again the Mets coming up very small down the stretch with a cushion. Obviously an entirely new team except for Wright so it is weird.

what a shitshow of a game to go to today. At least todays tix and food and drinks were free.

Well at least baltimore won so a loss was still a win.

Magic number 5 but we need to turn this around quick because at this rate we won't get past 1st round of playoffs

Damn we could have put the Nats to bed with a sweep here. Rough series.

As disappointing as we may be, imagine the Nats fans. They are looking at it as a missed opportunity to shave a couple of games from the Mets lead. This is why I wasn't very concerned with the division. The Nats could get anything going consistently all season.

Won't be comfortable until I see we are up 4 with the last 3 to play.

I'm okay with this slump. Better now than in a few weeks. Get it all out of the system now. Baseball is a very streaky game. YC will break out come playoff time.
