Mets

I fully expect this team to come out and sweep Atlanta. They have been good about putting bad loses behind them and moving on. Win 2/3 vs. them and Philly and we are in good shape (I have no idea what to expect vs Cincy). I would feel a lot better if the Nats didn't also play cupcakes down the stretch.

My concern is the Nats are starting to get hot. They play ten straight games against terrible pitching. We have four games in Cinci which is a better team then many realize because they get beat up by the Cubs, Cards and Pirates just like we did this year. I could see the Nats winning ten in a row which means we need to gov6-4 to avoid having to win the Nat series to avoid a one game playoff. As for Harvey, I would shut him down until the Nats series and use him three innings in relief to help win a game if necessary. This way he doesn't cross 180 innings and trade him in the offseason. He is way too disruptive for my liking.

I agree with trading him but not with respecting the 180 innings. I would have let him go 7 or 8 last night, given him 2 more starts and told Boros to shove it because he will be someone elses problem next year. I know he is good, no question, but IMO he is pitching, conniving to nothing more than his next contract so if he doesn't care this year why would he next?

Niccolini, Pineda and Sabathia made us look like minor leaguers. Sure we probably will knock off the hapless Braves but Cepedes, d'NAUARD and Duda have to come through for us to finish as the NL East winner. Travis has recently looked terrible at bat swinging at pitches out of the strike zone, hitting weak tappers to the right side.
It's obvious we aren't going to score much at all against Greinke and Kershaw. So our young studs will have to pitch shutout baseball. Can't give up more then one run if we expect to beat their CY Young guys.
One last point - Alderson has surprised me with his late season acquisitions(Cespedes) but was there no one available except O'Flaherty and Stauffer?

Right now I want to make the playoffs. If we do, anything can happen - but let's make them first.

we better take 2 out of 3 minimum against atlanta and preferably the 2 that I will be at. I wonder if it's going to be small crowds because tix were stupid cheap on stub hub ( wed is jewish holiday so I understand that one ) but this series should have been mobbed

I'll be here tomorrow

Why do you think it should be a big crowd? Basically a AAA game. Braves look like the Mets circa 2009-2013. Mets have Niese, a guy close to 90 and probably somebody limited to 60 pitches pitching. Oh and our best hitter is in a 1-21 funk. I think the pressure is getting to me.

because we haven't been to a playoff game in what seems like 100 years. I would think people would savor every moment since it's still no lock ( being a met fan we are pessimistic by nature )

Pressure was getting to me and my assistant today too because I made the mistake of looking at playoff tix on stub hub on friday at work and my assistant was yelling at me that I was jinxing things and that very well could have been a jinx :)

Tonights game I'm going to be on the edge of my couch the entire game

All mid week games in September primarily draw die hards. The crowd will be decent each night but re sales are low because the face value of the tickets are low(dynamic pricing) and there are seats available. The Jets play tonight which kept me away from tonight's game. The Jewish holiday impacts both Tuesday and Wednesday's game.

I wonder what the after market will be if the Nats series means something. The games are sold out or close to sold out but people are waiting to see if they mean anything.

Yeah I didn't really consider the jets tonight. Good point on that one

I'd consider going down to Philly if we don't have it locked up by the time we are done with Cincy

would love to go 2 for 3 and have baltimore win 2

relieved a little
Hope you had the seat up! (Don't want to get in trouble with the misses). :)

Haaa. This is the 1st game in a long long time that I literally sat up at the edge of my couch the entire game. Was way to nervous today about this. I guess it's good that the Nat's got rained out. Let them watch and pop their bubble a little

Murphy can't become a free agent fast enough

He absolutely must lead the league in bonehead plays.

Also leads the team in doubles, and had a big one tonight.

Big Hit.
However I started playing baseball at 5, played in college and in Men's league up until about 30.
Murphy has done 2 or 3 things this year that I had never seen someone do on a baseball field. He is beyond scary doing anything but hitting.
