Mets

I think when he tried to charge the bunt from second instead of covering first was my favorite. Yesterday's might be second.

Murphy can't become a free agent fast enough

He absolutely must lead the league in bonehead plays.

Also leads the team in doubles, and had a big one tonight.

Big Hit.
However I started playing baseball at 5, played in college and in Men's league up until about 30.
Murphy has done 2 or 3 things this year that I had never seen someone do on a baseball field. He is beyond scary doing anything but hitting.

Great athlete, dumb as a brick.

The Braves are brutal. We need a sweep. Do that and we can play sub-500 baseball and still make it in. I think the Nats will split with the Orioles.

if this was any other team with a 6.5 gm lead and 12 to play everyone would assume it was done and dusted. We have a 99% chance of making playoffs. But we have enough scars to alter our perception and quasi panic at the slightest sign of a slide.

We are good! The division is ours! This isn't like the time jumbo peanuts cursed the team when I assumed victory against san diego and they blew it in the rain. Can't wait to see this team give it a go and make a run in the playoffs

It's also the fact that the Nats are hot now and have a reasonable schedule down the stretch. A couple of loses in Baltimore would go a long way.

4 games with Reds makes me nervous. They are not good, but they can hit and play in tiny ballpark.

All we need to do is split with them. The Reds pitching is terrible. Not quite Atlanta bad but still pretty bad.

Huge win last night (every September win is huge). John Niese was John Nice, and secured his rightful place on the post season roster if there was any doubt at all.

Daniel Murphy is a legitimate major league hitter. He is also the reason players hold up fingers to indicate the number of outs, why coaches position professional players, and why even junior varsity players are instructed to run possibility through your head when you are at bat, on the bases, or in the field. In that manner, baseball is an incredibly cerebral game, and players use the time between pitches to assess the game situation and be prepared when the ball is hit their way, when a line drive is hit while they are on the bases, etc. Murphy's problem is that it appears that none of that thought process takes place at all, and as a result makes some incredibly stupid plays in the field. Billy Martin would have buried him on the bench by now, or buried him somewhere.

Having said that, huge huge win last night, and all the Nats could do was watch another significant nail (7 nails to go) was drilled into their coffin. As Yogi Berra said, It ain't over, till ...

Whoa, easy there. You are giving Niese a postseason spot because he shut down one of the worst teams in baseball? I think he is clearly behind Harvey, Degrom, Noah and Matz. I think I would even put Verrett and maybe Colon ahead of him. Niese has been atrocious for a month now. Lets see what he does in his final two outings. I don't think he makes the postseason roster.

There is no doubt Murphy is a bonehead. Just as there is no doubt that's who I want up with the game on the line.

A soon to be loss is a win. Magic number 6

Thanks Baltimore !!
. Agreed, only positive on a night where the Mets pretend again this is spring training rather than a pennant race. But hey baseball only survived 130 or so years without pitch counts, inning maximums and skipped starts so I guess it was long overdue.

what's up with clipped lately. Holy cow he stinks lately

btw #6 is Wally's number

A team is never as good as they appear when they are on a hot streak, and I suppose they aren't as bad as they appear when they are losing. Right now this team is sputtering, and while just a couple of weeks ago no deficit was insurmountable, at present no lead is safe.

The playoffs looks assured, but they'd better get it in gear or this will be a very short post season. As Tug said, "Ya gotta believe." 11 games to turn it around - in baseball a reversal of fortune can occur in an instant.

Once again we made some no name starter look like a Cy Youmg pitcher. Did his stuff look good on tv? All I could tell from the outfield was he was throwing strikes.

The biggest reason why the Mets are sputtering is cause TC is futzing around with the lineup every night. I don't blame him for doing it either cause he wants to give everyone some live action heading into October. Make no mistake though, when this team is in the playoffs he will be trotting out 1 lefty lineup and 1 righty lineup and the bench will be a strength.

The rosters go back to 25 from 40 come the playoffs so a good portion of the flexability will be gone.

Da na na na na na na na
Da na na na na na na na
Backman!

Would love to see it but Alderson and Backman would be the oddest of odd couples!! But I do think Collins is gone and I think he knows it, hence his tirade about having to sit Harvey down the other night.

agreed that Murphy is the guy you want up in a clutch situation.

What was worse? Murphy's boneheaded bizarre baserunning 2 nights ago or Cespedes just standing at the plate as strike 3 went to the backstop.
