I think when he tried to charge the bunt from second instead of covering first was my favorite. Yesterday's might be second.
Murphy can't become a free agent fast enough
He absolutely must lead the league in bonehead plays.
Also leads the team in doubles, and had a big one tonight.
Big Hit.
However I started playing baseball at 5, played in college and in Men's league up until about 30.
Murphy has done 2 or 3 things this year that I had never seen someone do on a baseball field. He is beyond scary doing anything but hitting.
if this was any other team with a 6.5 gm lead and 12 to play everyone would assume it was done and dusted. We have a 99% chance of making playoffs. But we have enough scars to alter our perception and quasi panic at the slightest sign of a slide.
We are good! The division is ours! This isn't like the time jumbo peanuts cursed the team when I assumed victory against san diego and they blew it in the rain. Can't wait to see this team give it a go and make a run in the playoffs
4 games with Reds makes me nervous. They are not good, but they can hit and play in tiny ballpark.
Huge win last night (every September win is huge). John Niese was John Nice, and secured his rightful place on the post season roster if there was any doubt at all.
Daniel Murphy is a legitimate major league hitter. He is also the reason players hold up fingers to indicate the number of outs, why coaches position professional players, and why even junior varsity players are instructed to run possibility through your head when you are at bat, on the bases, or in the field. In that manner, baseball is an incredibly cerebral game, and players use the time between pitches to assess the game situation and be prepared when the ball is hit their way, when a line drive is hit while they are on the bases, etc. Murphy's problem is that it appears that none of that thought process takes place at all, and as a result makes some incredibly stupid plays in the field. Billy Martin would have buried him on the bench by now, or buried him somewhere.
Having said that, huge huge win last night, and all the Nats could do was watch another significant nail (7 nails to go) was drilled into their coffin. As Yogi Berra said, It ain't over, till ...
. Agreed, only positive on a night where the Mets pretend again this is spring training rather than a pennant race. But hey baseball only survived 130 or so years without pitch counts, inning maximums and skipped starts so I guess it was long overdue.A soon to be loss is a win. Magic number 6
Thanks Baltimore !!

The biggest reason why the Mets are sputtering is cause TC is futzing around with the lineup every night. I don't blame him for doing it either cause he wants to give everyone some live action heading into October. Make no mistake though, when this team is in the playoffs he will be trotting out 1 lefty lineup and 1 righty lineup and the bench will be a strength.
Da na na na na na na na

Backman!
There is no doubt Murphy is a bonehead. Just as there is no doubt that's who I want up with the game on the line.
