I think a pitcher will go down. They just added someone the other day and I think he will go back to AAA. They wanted someone in the pen to cover Verrett who was making a spot start. With Duda on the DL they are short on the bench.

Guessing based on Sunday's star want to keep the option open to have Verrett active as a long man in the bullpen in the playoffs.

With a strong September Cespedes can push his contract into the stratosphere, as Beltran did with his playoff surge with the Astros. He could not have landed in a better place to showcase his skills. If his price tag soars, the Mets best hope may be a 4 year deal in the $90 million range. Four years may be an attractive option for Cespedes because it would give him a much better crack at a mega deal. I'm confident that Alderson is engaged an has a plan - we'll see.

Fwiw, John Sickels wrote a blog post last month pretty high on Logan and thought he could be a starter for us next year. Last night makes him look smart. The kid might now be Thor or Matz, but looks like a solid back of the rotation guy.

Hard not to give Verrett another start after that gem yesterday. No need to rush Matz at this point.

I have already come to grips with the fact Cespdes will be elsewhere next season. He had the year FA added to his contact because he wanted one big payday. And he will not let that go. But it was still a move I endorsed when it was made, and still do now. This team is not in first without him.

Heck, if guy like Cespdes was in this lineup in April, the Mets could have been setting up its playoff rotation already.

All I hope is that the Wilpons see the enthusiasm and the large crowds, and make it a point to replace Cespdes with either Upton or Hayward (imo, the best FAs available if you factor in age).

Upton is 28, and Hayward will turn 26. If you get Hayward for 7/140 (for example), he will be a cog in your lineup from ages 26-33. That is very attractive.

But if (and yes it is the Wilpons, so we have no guarantees) one those two are in the OF, April of next season, we should all be very excited.

For now however, let's just enjoy this ride.

I don't think Matz will be rushed. He is slated to come back early September, and that will remain. Remember, Harvey and Syndergaard will be skipped more. And you can spot start Matz against a team that has a heavily left handed lineup.

What's the expression, you can't be too rich, you can't be too good looking, and you can't have enough pitching (or something like that). :)

Matz is up for 60 pitches and then 80 in his next rehab starts. According to newsday those 80 could either be in the minors or majors.

I think the Mets will let Cespedes walk and try to make a trade for Carlos Gonzalez. he's locked in for another few years at very reasonable money. I would like to keep Cespedes and our prized prospects but Freddy Coupon will not pay him.

Well this will be a great test for the Cheapons. If they choose not to sign Cespedes then I agree go for Cargo. However we could be lefty loaded with Murphy, Duda, Conforto, Granderson and Gonzalez. Hopefully its Cespedes.

Family going to Philly for Met series. I know in the past the mention of the best Cheesesteaks in the city. Anyone have any recommendations.

When I was coaching a Smithtown basketball travel team we would play in the Bustleton, PA Tournament every year. At that time Philadelphia had the best pretzels ever.

Mets aren't resigning Murphy. I could also see them trading Duda, (maybe arbitration eligible?), and move Cuddyer to first base. how many more years does Granderson have on his contract?

Granderson is owed $31M over the next 2 years. I don't see many takers for his contract as he's now 34 yrs old and IMO his contract isn't attractive at his age and production level.

Agree Murphy is likely gone. Duda is arbitration eligible but I doubt he would be traded. Cuddyer won't make it through next season due to injuries. I can't believe O'Flaherty is still on the team. I also really hope we don't resign Clippard. I don't think he wants to be here.

Ummm...wow.

This game is FAR from over, but...Jesus Christ!
LOL.. we could get 15+homers at every position if we played
1B Duda
2B Murphy
SS Flores
3B Wright/Uribe
LF Conforto/Cuddyer
CF Cespedes
RF Grandy

Also, I am in the minority but I like what Collins has been doing. I get the competition but this is building confidence.
