Mets

I honestly believe if you moved to California you would cure their record drought by all the dark clouds and rain you bring

You guys can keep him. We'll take our chances with the drought.

10 day jumbo_peanuts forecast calls for rookie board with a chance of being outright banned.

and why would I be banned? All I said was that the Mets play in the worst division in baseball, which is true.

So, why don't you put some context around that, and tell us how the playoff teams in baseball's worst conferences have done in the post season since 1970? Thank you. Take your time, and don't post here until you have the results ready.

Did I say anything about the 70's, 80's, or 90's? I said that they are in the worst division in baseball, and this year, they are!

My point is that worst/best division in baseball means little to nothing in the post season. The Mets, with excellent front line starters, could go very deep into the playoffs should they make it. How many wins the other teams in their division have out of division will mean nothing. Why piss on the Met's success of late? It makes no sense, and even less sense to cling to it once proclaimed.

nothing worse than blowing extra inning games. So f'ing frustrating

games have been fun, tight. if nothing, reminds this team still has some work to do as it gears for a playoff berth (Nats down like 12-5 right now, I can't see them staying in this right now if we maintain a deccent winning pct).

I'm sure Harvey will be geared up to take the last game of the series tomorrow. Tired pen, two losses in a row, an Offense that has struggled a bit this past week outside that afternoon game with the Rockies.

that i even care about this in august is awesome enough for me.

peace.

It shouldn't be long before Williams is fired. He should have been toast after taking Zimmermann out after a walk in last years playoff. Speaking of changing pitchers I would prefer Collins holding Familia out of the ninth inning in extra inning games.
Not happy with our recent weak hitting against some questionable young arms. Can't hit Happ and Morton?

lose all 3 games and we don't lose any ground in the standings thanks to Newsman's Giants. I went from being annoyed to feeling like we won the series :)

a missed opportunity to really bury the Nats if I were asked.

but lady luck is on our side thus far.

Bucs closed out some tight games this series. Made us look like we are just getting used to the big table for the holidays after years at the li'l table put in the living room.

I still like what this team is doing, and what it is capable of.

peace.

A crazy stat. We are winless against the bucs and cubs this entire year

add the Cards and they're like 3-16 against that division.

still in driver's seat in the weaker east. Nats lost again today. they're on life support. rather we didn't give any hope whatsoever.

I thought Collins made a huge mistake bringing in Parnell after the rain delay. Lost first 2 games of series, tie game in seventh, I would have preferred anyone else. I loved Parnell pre injury but he has been bad lately and late game tie game was not the time to go to him. Mets showing to be a good team may need and deserve a better manager. We have always heard Collins was a care taker to be used during the rough times and that he wouldn't be around when they got good.

In fairness to Collins he didn't have many other options. He could have went to Torres but he has pitched a lot the last two games. The only other option is O'Flaherty who has been just as bad as Parnell since he came to the Mets. They have been snake bit by injuries and suspensions. Black, Mejia, Blevins, Goeddel, Montero, Carlyle to name a few. Goeddel seems close to getting back and can replace Parnell. We really need a lefty specialist. Gilmartin isn't bad but he is not especially effective against lefties. I wish they could use Matz as a reliever when he gets back but that wouldn't solve the innings limit for the big 3.

At the end of the day, you are what you are. And in all honesty, the Mets are an average team at best. They have solid starting pitching, and that's about it. They are just reaping the benefits of playing in an absolutely terrible division. If they played in any other division in baseball, they would be lucky to be .500, and wouldn't even be close to the post season, and that's the truth.

But ultimately they will win their division (which as of this morning, the Mets are the only team in that division with a winning record). Can good starting pitching carry them into a serious postseason run? It's possible, but they just don't have anything else to support their pitching.

And off topic a little, but I really think that within the next couple of years MLB is going to change the playoff format to where winning your division doesn't automatically guarantee you a 5 game series. Once the playoff field is set (the division winners and 2 wild card teams), seedings will then go by best record. The teams in the field with the two worst records will play in the one game playoff, regardless of whether they won their division or not. Look at the NL Central this year. They have the Cards, Pirates, and Cubs.....record wise, they are the 3 best teams in the National League. Only one of them is going to win the division, and so the other two will more than likely be playing in the wild card game. That means that one of the top 3 teams in the NL (and one of the top teams overall in baseball) will be out of the playoffs after one game, and a much weaker team that just happened to win their division will get a 5 game series. That doesn't seem right to me.

"solid starting pitching." I suppose having a top 3 team ERA constitutes "solid" pitching. Can we start a new forum for insufferable wet blankets on here? Heaven=redmen forum. Pergatory= rookie forum Hell=wet blanket forum

The definition of insanity is attempting a logical conversation with jumbo peanuts over and over again and expecting different results.

Don't waste valuable space on the internet or your time. All he does is interrupt regularly scheduled threads with unintelligible nonsense. He is obviously riding carefree on the trolley of trolls.

Duda being healthy and in the lineup helps the lineup a lot. Also David Wright, the face of the franchise has been hurt all year. So worst division or not, I'm proud of the team for fighting and putting themselves in position for the playoffs.

If the mets make a run through the playoffs, no one will care what division they played in. So I will hope for that. Also, every analyst and most of the fans thought this was for sure a roster set up for a 2016 great year. So the fact we are in good shape is just enjoyable and making this rough season for sports bearable.

I got some bad news though. 3-4 years ago the mets were in the playoff race at the all star break. So my dad and I (living in Delaware) bought the MLB Extra Innings package so we could see every game. Of course the mets were like 15 games under 500. After the all star break and didn't even come close to the playoffs. My dad bought the same package two nights ago. Mets are 0-2 since. I'm a little nervous :)

Yes, it is solid. It's good but not great, and it's not the best in the league. Therefore, it is solid.

You're trolling Mets and St. John's fans. Can't you let us have a little happiness? You are a step or two away from from heckling Make-A-Wish kids with "you're still probably going to die."

You're not even a fan....why is every third post from you? Go away.

I have just as much right to post here as you do! Don't like it, then don't read it. I am a fan of St Johns, but not the Mets. And just because I am not a fan, that does not mean that I cannot contribute to a discussion about them. Your only problem with me is that I am saying stuff that you don't want to hear. Why don't you talk to the moderators and have them change the criteria for membership on this site to include 'only those who are positive in every post and agree with what everyone else says."? Would that make you happy?

My only concern down the stretch is the bullpen. Mejia is a real piece of work for hanging these guys out to dry. Does Montero slide into a 7th inning role if he gets healthy?

So if you're not the best at something you're just solid? Hmmm. Guess Dez Bryant or Antonio Brown are just "solid" cause they aren't as good as Megatron

A healthy Mejia would have given us a top three bullpen. What a bonehead. Parnell is a disaster and I don't trust him in any big spot.

The good new is Goeddel is on the way any day and Vic Black hasn't given up an earned run in Vegas in his last 10 appearances dating back to 7/17. Probably time to call him back up. If he's healthy, gives us an awesome 7-8-9 combo. He was great last year.

Great call, sounds horrible as a fan but Vic Black has been a complete afterthought in my mind. We really could use him!
