Mets

How do you not challenge that play? SMH..

Collins had nothing to lose. He fumbled his reply to a reporter after the game. Verrett has got to go, Niese will replace him in the rotation. Also put Reynolds on the bench and get some offense from Flores. Matt strikes out too much, should be more of a contact hitter.

The Cardinals scored five times with two outs to beat the Reds. Not something you will see from the Mets.

Rest degrom and Noah rest of way get them ready for next year, maybe shut them down at end of month.....this year has slipped away and last year probably took a toll on them. I know degrom is pitching well but at this point it's wasting bullets in their guns. See if wheeler can prove he's back in a few starts and work on next year.

We are only a couple of games away from the 2nd wild card spot. The clock is ticking on free agency for pitchers they can't afford to keep (or won't). Syndergaard should skip a start - his fastball hasn't had the same life. DeGrom has still been great. I do think they are heading for a playoff miss though

All things point to rest not helping pitchers, but rather keeping them pitching and keeping them on the mound results in longevity. I also completely disagree with the white flag mentality. This is our last year with Cespedes. He will return. We cannot just merely give up. We are only a few games out, and have the pitching to go deep into the playoffs.

Gotta believe.

Agreed, all is not lost. Still alive in the wild card running. Reyes should be back soon, certainly an improvement over Reynolds. BTW, will someone tell him to stand closer to the plate. Perhaps it would cut down on his many whiffs. Is there anyone on the Mets who can motivate Synagaard to hold runners on? At least throw over once in the while.
SNY reported last night that the Mets placed d'NAURD and Flores on the waiver list. Also they lost out on obtaining two relievers from that list as well.

Anddd just like that there's been a setback with Reyes. Was supposed to start a rehab game today, still too hurt to play, it's being pushed back now. WTF is up with the way this organization and medical staff handle injuries?

I am totally done with Terry Collins. I understand this team has injuries but he is doing a lousy job motivating this team and is a terrible game manager. I don't understand the pushing of Matz to 120 pitches today when you know he needs surgery already. Syndegaard and Matz give up way too many foul balls. Matz has a good slider that he can't throw because of the arm injury. I doubt they will fire Coliins during the season but I really think they should.Alderson is no brain surgeon either.

friend of mine and I were talking yesterday and we both think he probably cost us 5 gems this year

As an elder statesman of the Fire Collins Club I will say there is a very good chance he goes this year. The guy is absolutely clueless and the fanbase is catching on. If there's one thing I know about the Mets it's that lately they've been sensitive to the fans' desires. They have started seeing butts in the seats and high ratings and don't want to go back. Last year they made it to the WS despite him. Trust me on that.

The reasons we are having the season we are having can be blamed on in this order:
1. Harvey, TDA and Granderson have stunk
2. Injuries
3. Whole team choking in clutch situations
4. Collins is not nearly a good enough manager to overcome problems 1-3. Just based off of the goodwill from last year I think he should have gotten benefit of the doubt. Last couple weeks Collins is making it harder to do that. He has done some things recently where I have seriously thought he was trying to get fired. I don't think it will help this year but might not hurt. Doubt they fire him this season though.

Very true the injuries have been overwhelming and a lot of guys are having season-long slumps. But someone has to fall on that sword.

Not sure what's worse, people ignoring the injuries to this team that have nothing to do with the manager, or Mets "fans" giving up on the season in the beginning of August.

Injury Reminder:
1B Duda
3B Wright
SS Reyes
SS Cabrera
LF Céspedes
CF Lagares
RF Ruggiano
SP Harvey
SP Wheeler
SP Syndergaard*
SP Matz*
RP Henderson

Ruggiano? The journeyman who was on the team for 3 days and doesn't even belong on a single A team. Henderson was garbage. Wright should do what Prince Fielder did and call it quits. There have been several untimely injuries. But injuries don't excuse a manager being incompetent.

Two things stick out about our clueless manager last night. First, allowing Matz to throw 120 pitches was insane. Secondly, pinch hitting Kelly for d'NAURD trailing by two runs in the last inning. Even though Travis is slumping he is more capable of hitting the ball out of the yard.

Who is going to straighten out our holding men on base? This is embarrassing since every team knows they can take off without a pickoff attempt. As I previously noted Matz has one of the worst pick off throws. Will someone call a pitch out one of these days. Granted Travis has a hard time throwing to second but in the case of Matz and Syndergaard he is not responsible for all the easy stolen bases. Pitch out please!

Wonder whose decision it was to have D'arnaud bunt in that situation. Probably the same one who pinch hit Ty Kelly for him the night before. Terry really has a way of boosting confidence of a struggling player.

Hope they can pull this game out in spite of TC as usual
