Mets

Like the Bruce deal a lot since we have him for next year and we risk Cespy getting a deal in a weak free agent class. Damn wish we got Lucroy. And our outfield defense is gonna be brutal for a while. lol

Interesting stat. I think we have the same exact record now as this point last year

If the only thing standing between the Mets and Lucroy is
Dilson-freakin- Herrara, you MAKE that move.
Isn't Dilson part of the reason we let Murphy walk? How did we let him gooooooooooooooo lol
Indeed it was! And don't forget the shoddy defense and base running misadventures.

Cespedes in left, Granderson in right, and Jay the Bruce in right. What about Conforto? First base? Regardless, this will probably cut into De Aza's burn...

granny to center with those 2 on the corners.

Bruce sucks in the field. Maybe only Schwarber being worse. We need the bat though

Hopefully we catch lightning in a bottle sneak in as wild card and then pitching goes nuts

I want a center fielder with a centerfielder's mentality. Typical Mets, playing people out of position (this was going to contain a list, like Piazza at first, Reyes at second, etc., but it would just set me off).

I'm with you on the playoff mentality. Mets have the advantage of having a top flight pitcher to start both the wild card and game 1 of the playoffs.

They had two options, as far as I can tell. Trade one of their top 2 prospects for a Lucroy, or deal a solid prospect and roll the dice that a guy like Bruce will give this offense a much-needed jolt. They went with the latter so as not to further deplete the farm system. I know plenty of Met fans who like Hererra, but clearly Sandy was not as high on him as others.

Bruce is a flawed player but gives them a big bat to go with Cespedes. Sandy has always liked him; tried to get him instead of Cespedes last year. I'm ok with it because, best case scenario, the trio of Thor/Degrom/Matz continue to pitch well (or even pitch better) and Bruce helps the seemingly always slumping offense. We caught lightning in a bottle last year with Cespedes - not only did he play like the best player in the game for a 6 week stretch, but others seemed to catch fire at the same time for whatever reason. Maybe Bruce can spark the same? Yes, the OF defense will be very suspect with Grandy in Center (because Cespedes refuses to play there), but they had to do something, and even though folks disagree on how valuable Bruce is (great HR/RBI totals, but poor defense and not a great on-base guy), he is a major upgrade for the lineup. If he catches fire and Cespedes gets healthy, we can possibly go on a run with those 2 driving the lineup AND some real good pitching from our Big 3 (plus Colon who is solid and potential upside with Wheeler).

On a different note, while I'm not a Yankee fan, I think Cashman did a hell of a job getting the level of prospects they did for 2 relievers (one who is a FA to be) and Beltran (also a FA to be). Their farm system is probably now ranked in the top 2/3 of baseball. The Chapman acquisition and subsequent trade was particularly shrewd. When viewed in the context of the Adam Warren for Castro deal, they basically got a few months of Chapman, a young, solid 2b (Castro), a solid, versatile bullpen guy who has done well there (Warren), 2 top 30 prospects (Torres/Frazier), another top 50-75 prospect (Sheffield), another top 100 prospect who was the #5 overall pick last year (Tate), another guy who is probably a top 100 prospect (Mckinnon) and a bunch of other solid level prospects FOR 2 months of Chapman, a year and 2 months of Miller, 2 months of Beltran, and a few other second tier prospects (originally dealt for Chapman in the deal with Cincy). That is a tremendous haul.

Cashman did a great job with the trades and getting prospects back. On a sidenote our very own Traczok is friends with the kid and family that the Yanks got today from Texas. Tate. The 1st round pitcher from 2015 draft

Luckily though we didn't trade Collins who once again showed what an idiot he is by not just giving Reed the ball to start the 8th last night. I guess Reed didn't go to him and tell him he wanted the ball and was ready to pitch.

This is why I have a hard time getting on board with the trade. It's not going to push this team to the playoffs. We have a deadbeat manager who absolutely needs to go. Our pitching is not where it needs to be. The lineup is not good due to injuries/the manager having no clue how to do his job.

Why not stand pat and let the Cubs, Rangers, Nats etc. duke it out. There can only be 1 winner and its not us. I like Bruce as a piece next year but all that it tells me is that Cespedes is gone after this year. Hopefully by then the starting pitching will be what we thought it would this year.

I would agree that the trade will not mean much this year, but I am fine with it because I don't think the Mets gave up anything; Herrera not being brought up at all this year spoke volumes to me. Anyway, from my perspective and this is not Einstein stuff here, the Mets remain a second class organization at best with no end to that in sight.

I wouldn't trust the Mets to evaluate Herrera's ability. This is the same organization that had Seth Lugo as the only available reliever in extra innings last night and just brought up Ty Kelly to be our right handed pinch hitting specialist.

Why, when you're up 5 in the bottom of the seventh, would you lift your quality defensive center fielder? Did Terry forget Juan is on the DL?

Our fifth starter is Logan Verett. We have Edgin, Niese and Goeddel among our relievers. Our bench on most days will be Nimmo, De Aza, Ty Kelly, Johnson, Reynolds or Flores and a back up catcher who can't hit much.

On the DL is Harvey, Wright, Cespedes, Duda, Reyes, and on and off the DL is D'Arneau. Conforto has the sophomore jinx, and Grandy is hitting .230 with an anemic # of RBIs. Syndergaard and Matz have bone spurs in their elbows and are trying to pitch through them. Wheeler is still out, behind schedule. No many teams could withstand that. If everything broke right for the Mets, they could have challenged the Nationals. At this point they are a .500 team or worse.
