Mets

I hope it doesn't take us falling out of contention for Terry to get fired. Trade some cash to the Angels for Scioscia that guy has needed a change of scenery for 10 years.

My patience has been wearing thin with TC for quite some time. Exhibit A would be tonight's game. Will gladly eat my words if I'm wrong that's the best part about being pessimistic

Wally Backman should be the manager of the Mets

I'd settle for Wally Cox.
Thought he already was the manager. Has his puppy dog with him.

More little league managing from Collins runs the Mets out of a possible break the game open inning. No reason to bunt Syndegaard there.

Agreed. First and third with one out and a pitcher who can hit. And we know he wanted a sacrifice bunt not a squeeze just how vehemently he was talking to Flores who tried to score on the bunt.
BTW, Syndegaard has to get serious with holding on runners. I believe he threw over once to hold a runner. The Nats got unbelievable jumps. Expect Rivera to catch him next game. In no way do I blame D'arnaud for the steals but there seemed to be a lot of confusion with the batteries signals.

Agree right back at you; I am in the DC area on business so I watched on MASN and as soon as Revere got on in the 3rd FP Santangelo,, who does the Nats color, emphasized Revere should be running even down 4 and he was. Honestly, Collins should go after the All-Star game.

I thought that was part of his original contract, to defer a significant portion of it into an annuity, and not part of a buyout. In any event 8% accrual on this original amount when deferred that long was a smart smart move on Boinlla's part. It virtually assured him that he wouldn't become part of the long list of athletes that ended up broke.

The size of the contract doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that Bonilla contracted Dave Parker disease as soon as he inked the deal.

Great article. Thanks! I guess when Madoff is returning you 15%, and you pay out an accrual of 8% on what you owed Bonilla, the math says you are making a very smart deal. I didn't realize Wilpon and Madoff were THAT close. Usually when something sounds too good to be true, it is just that.

Watching Nimmo's ear to ear impossible-to-wipe-off grin after his 3 run homer and diving catch us a great reminder that baseball is a boy's game played by men.

I certainly agree it should be but sports are evolving into anything but being played for fun on almost any level. Too organized, too many wacky adults at too young an age. Fun was the park or playground, fun was learning to play the right way from older players and then figuring it out for yourself. At least from this old man's vantage point.

I dont think kids today wpuld know how to choose up sides in a playground or know what it's like to leave your house in the morning, play a dozen or more bball or softball games and onlyhave to be home for dinner. In the summer we would go back to the school yard and play games until you couldn't see the ball anymore

Mets showing some character beating the Cubs three in a row. Holding that offense to 8 runs in three games is impressive.

Talking about school yards. Besides playing softball games in the summer public school league we would play Stonewall Jackson, fast pitching against a handball court and even play stickball with a new tennis ball. ( talk about trying to score runs with it.) While playing fast pitching I would imitate every Brooklyn Dodger in the lineup. BTW, we would win the public school softball championship each summer in Maspeth, Queens. Wasn't it great to be fielding ground balls on cement. Those was the days my friends!

Total different team from last weeks performance. Hopefully we don't get overconfident against the incoming Marlins. Then we have to take at least three of four against the Nats.

Almost too easy but my least favorite Met in a long time comes up very small once again today.

right now he is just not the same pitcher, although he did hit 98 on the radar gun and appeared to be throwing as well as he has all year. Announcers said yesterday his career ERA coming in was 2.88 and his run support over his career has been the worst in baseball. If they are to make a serious run he will have to put out strong outings in at least 8 or his next 10 starts.
