Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

Once we got Montas, the Sevy ship sailed and like @Jack Williams said, I’m fine with that.

The problem now is Manaea is looking at 3/80 or 4/100. Do you want to pay that? I personally would, but would also understand not.
I'd give Manaea 3 but not 4 guaranteed. Maybe 4 if it was club option or if it vested based on certain criteria from year 3

I think top prospect Brandon Sproat is projected to be promoted to the bigs this season.
Sproat flew through A and AA. He struggled mightily in a short AAA appearance. I suspect he starts at Syracuse and we might see him later in the season.

Unfortunately Christian Scott will be out all of 2025 to recover from TJ surgery. Blade Tidwell struggled mightily at Syracuse. So he still has a lot to prove.

All of our pitchers struggle at Syracuse for some reason. It’s a big adjustment.

I would expect Sproat and Tidwell to adjust this season and be ready for the big leagues sooner rather than later. I don’t think you can count on them, though, and doubt Stearns will.

This should be the best AAA pitching staff we’ve had in recent memory. Vasil and Hamel are very experienced prospects, albeit with awful AAA #s.

Vasil and Hamel are not on the 40 man roster anymore. My understanding is they are eligible to be selected by any other team but would have to stay on ML roster all season. I believe that might even be within the week. So they might not be at Syracuse.

Ah, here it is. Rule 5 Draft on December 11.

I like it a lot. He will be with his bullpen coach and reunite with Mendoza. He still showed great stuff. Was a starter before NYY. The value of the deal is awesome. If he works out as a starter (aka league average), it’s a steal. If it doesn’t, he is a dynamite bullpen arm. Short term and AAV is relatively little

When was Holmes a starter ? For bullpen I'm fine with it but not a big fan of turning relief pitchers into starters who are older ( I get that it's 32 but still.. ) Lugo it worked but I'm just not big fan of it but it's not my money

The Mets seem intent on reclamation projects for pitching. Our “current” rotation consists of Senga, Montas, Holmes, Peterson, Megill and Blackburn.

All of them have been injured within the last few seasons and one guy who has not been a starter. I mean I sure hope they are intent on bringing back Manaea. At least we’d have “depth” if not quality. I felt the same way last year at this time and that worked out fine at least until the Dodgers series. So…

This is only a rumor but a pretty reliable source of mine, Soto announcement on Sunday to the Mets! Just sharing what I've heard fingers crossed!
I should confess that I am so tired of hearing about this has made me tired.

The Soto total contract is freaking people out but it doesn’t really matter if he gets his break clause after 3/4 years.

I’m in favor of giving him 800 mill and I’m not joking. The difference of AAV from 700 to 800 on a 15 year deal is two million dollars. Why stop at 700 or 750?

The Mets need to get Holmes back to where he was in 22 and 23 before they worry how to use him.

The Athletic says were interested in re-signing Manaea (although one team has discussed a fourth year…), Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Flaherty, Nick Pivetta and Walker Buehler.

Sign me up for a three year deal for Pivetta or Eovaldi, and trade for our ace. Would also be happy with Manaea.

The Cohen era is a completely new thing, so maybe I shouldn’t be feeling this way, but my gut says the Soto and Co are using the Mets to get more money out of the Yanks and he ultimately goes back there

Praying I’m wrong
