Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

Yes, I had Yankee envy, but I did not bemoan the fact they spent money. I instead loathed the Wilpons for running the Mets like a small market team.

And Yankee fans would rightfully laugh and say go get yourself an owner who will spend. Now the Mets have one.
Most importantly, Mets are not really aiming for the Yankees (Cohen would have done the same if Soto was still a Padre), they are targeting the Dodgers, and a stacked NL. They are not done.

Lastly, the Mets run in the playoffs was not just fun for the fans, but it changed the perception of the team. If they were a dumpster fire from the year before, this deal probably does not happen.

I do not think it is that set. For example, McNeil and Marte could be moved with the Mets retaining money for upgrades elsewhere.

Marte is really close with Soto, so I have a feeling he's staying. As a DH, I actually think he may have a better year than people think.

I know there's talk of Stearns liking McNeil and his versatility, but my gut tells me he's gone. I know he hit much better in the second half, but he doesn't seem to really fit in great with Lindor or the OMG culture that well. Plenty of guys ready to step in at 2B for cheap.

I'm now in favor of re-signing Pete, but also wouldn't mind a one year stop-gap with Paul Goldschmidt or Carlos Santana. Vlad Guerrero Jr is really good friends with Soto, and he's a free agent next year at age ...26. Perfect guy to sign next year.

I would also guess Marte as a DH could possibly cut down on his injuries. DH has been a down position for them since it was implemented in the NL, so a normal Marte year barring an injury would be an upgrade and besides being Soto’s friend (which I wasn’t aware of) he’s already a popular guy in the clubhouse.

Just to add, it’s kind of exciting to have, gulp, expectations now. That’s gone so well for me in all the teams I support, let me tell ya 🤦‍♂️😂
 
ugh it was fun taking the whole Fam to games Sep '23... where the ticket fees were double the price of tickets lol...

I guess winning will be fun too...
 
I think McNeil is getting traded and Acuna is taking over 2nd. Speed, Defense and youth. They aren't going to get a great return for him but maybe a bullpen arm or 2nd tier prospect.
