Yes, but the Mets are not going to sign Soto and then close shop in the offseason.Soto is a great player but we have to be able to surround him with a good pitching staff. To date we don't have one.
I think if the Mets sign Soto, they will spend even more than if he goes elsewhere, because you have to go all in.
That includes lineup and pitching.
The pitching will be interesting because starting pitching is not even a six inning thing anymore. It is sometimes four innings and then it becomes a bullpen game.
The Mets will continue to sign a lot of arms like to short term deals last season (already added Montas and Holmes) and then go after players such as Buehler and Soroka for a solid 6 man rotation and then spend on relievers like Tanner Scott and create a lockdown back end of the bullpen with Diaz.
