Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

He was awful in the regular season, but he was one of 3 guys I trusted in the playoffs. He has a 2.89 career playoff ERA. Glad to have him back.
Eh, no problem bringing him back. Doesn’t sound like a big financial deal and as you pointed out he was good in the playoffs. Better him than Maton.

Being reported 4.5 mill with an extra 500k in incentives. Not awful for a 7th/8th inning guy.

Who knows what will happen but this would be something. King would be a 1 year rental. I watched him last year but whatever he was drinking in SD it was working. His stuff was nasty. Braves contacted Padres as well. Something could happen given Padres Ownership issues. Worth watching.

Depends the asking price since he is a 1 year rental. The deal the morons on WFAN threw out was absurd (Butto, Tong and Gilbert I believe).

I don't know anything about King, but his stats are really impressive. Makes me wonder why the Yankees saw him as a bullpen guy?
Seems like he could really take off with another year as a starter. The downside is that he is coming off of a massive innings hike. You don't see guys go from 100 to 175 IP that often these days.

I'd give up Gilbert...I'm not high on him at all. Maybe add Megill and a pitcher not named Sproat, Tidwell, or Tong.

I love the idea of Cease or King. Cease is your bonafide ace who can give you 180IP and be your game 1 starter. He also pushes everyone down a slot. Cease/Manaea/Senga is totally fine in a playoff series.

King has more upside. I like that Mendoza and our newly hired bullpen coach already know him. And, he's friends with Holmes who's doing the thing that he just did. Reports said he was also more open to extending compared to Cease (who is a Boras client). He had a great playoff outing against the Braves also -- 7 IP, 0 ER, 12 Ks, 0 BB.

Personally, I'd prefer King and then extend him for 3 years. But if we get Cease and not have to give up Sproat or Jett, it's a home run. We can offer him the QO after this year, so he can become our Mike Hampton for this year before drafting the next David Wright. ;)

I prefer King. Either would be great. You have to give to get but what you give for a rental is the issue. This should not cost Sproat or Jett. But Acuna? Tong? Mauricio? Probably a starting point. Then how or is Stearns open to a multi year deal with a pitcher?

I love addressing the pitching but we still need a bat whether it’s Alonso or someone else.
