Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

Perfect. Play for the Mets this upcoming season and keep first base warm for Vlad Jr..
Only problem is it’s a player option. I also don’t think Mets are going 7 or 8 years for Vlad. That seems to be where it’s heading. But we can dream… Pete at DH in 2026!

Essentially a 1 year deal for 30 mill. We will be in a much better spot next year knowing where Baty and Mauricio stand, getting a clearer picture on Clifford, and with Vlad Jr. scheduled to hit the market.

Stearns put on a master class. Get another top 3 starter and LFGM!

Huge news for Vientos.

The best decision the Mets could've made.

Plan B was a disaster-waiting-to-happen for a win-now team.

Pete was the best (and only real) option we had at this point.

Hope he uses all this offseason pent-up BS to have a monster season.

Happy to see Pete back. Hopefully the pressure is off a bit and he returns to 21/22 Pete and both sides win. If he is 23/24 Pete it’s an overpay but only a 2 year problem.

Or the Mets got off cheap, brought him back for $100M less than the offer they made that he and Boros turned down.

When you make that much money now does anyone actually lose ? Give me 53 mill over 2 years I’m going to feel pretty damn good

Knowing you left an easy $100M on the table because you got too greedy has to be a kick in the nads tho....
He may still be able to get more money at the end of his career, just won’t be with the Mets.

His 7-158 extension offer included buying out his last year of arbitration. And last year he made 20 mill.

This deal, he’s making 30 in the first year before opting out.

So to beat those numbers over the rest of his career, it’s 5 years, 108 mill. I definitely think he will find a team next year, especially with no QO attached to him, to offer more than 21 mill per year.

Great deal for both sides

Looks good to me.

It’s a solid lineup especially if Alvarez can improve. I hope McNeil is moving to the bench for a younger kid. The outfield is aging and a concern.

Boras wasn’t his agent then.

Great deal for the Mets. Not so much Alonso. The offer of 3/75 would have made him a top 5 paid first baseman.

He will be 31 and I think he would be fortunate to get that same offer again next year. I do not think he gets 5+ years again. Not to mention Alonso will probably have to wait until Vlad Jr.‘s contract is resolved before anything moves in his end.

Happy he is back of course. But I feel the Mets make a big run at Vlad Jr. as a FA.

Did not know that

I think Pete will have to opt out or take the option BEFORE free agency begins. I am not sure about that. Maybe somebody knows for sure?

I don’t see them making a run at Vlad. They already have long term commitments now to Lindor/Soto. Vlad at 26/27 is going to get 7-8 years and up. Seeing Stearns operate I don’t see it. Soto was a special case. All about building a brand. Vlad with his body type is a huge risk. Soto already will end up a DH.
