Mets 2024 Season

For being in born in ‘97, my all time fav teams are a lot “sadder”

Fav Mets team - this one without a doubt, finish the job and they’ll probably be my favorite sports team of all time, period. They are close as is.

Jets - my first year as a football fan, I was very young maybe only 7-8 years old? The jets made the playoffs and should have advanced but their kicker missed two kicks against the Steelers late. My first real sports heartbreak there. But I loved that team. I loved Santana Moss. Other than that, beating the patriots and making the AFC championship in back to back seasons around 09-10 was the peak for me. The Pats in game particular best jets win ive ever watched. But conversely the AFCCG losses to the Colts and Steelers were both excruciating as we had a shot in both

Rangers - the Rags have given me a lot of great playoff runs in my lifetime, more than any other team I like. My favorite was our surprise run to the ECF in 2022 because my dad and I were in the building for our comeback game 7 win over the Pens in round 1. Panarin overtime goal was probably most memorable thing I’ve seen live at a game

Knicks - last season, easily. As a big Sixers hater that round 1 victory meant a lot more to me than just advancing to the eastern conference semis. But the COVID year where we came out of nowhere but lost to the hawks in round 1 was a personal fav of mine. It meant so much to shifting the culture of the Knicks.

St John’s - the DLo, Pointer, Greene senior season, Lavs last season, still my top one. D’Angelo Harrison was my Michael Jordan when I was in high school. I was obsessed with the guy. As I’m sure my posts here during those years reflected. As much as I loved that team I’m looking forward to a SJU team (this year maybe?) coming along and winning a tournament game or more, cementing themselves as the best Johnnie team of my time as a fan
The Pennington to Moss TD in San Diego is one of my favorite TD passes ever. Probably his best throw as the Jets QB and Moss was money on the long ball. Never forget Chad making a muscle and pointing to it to mock all the people questioning his arm strength. Strongly believe if his shoulder hadn’t been wrecked they would have won one with him. Such an intelligent, winning, player.

And, the Steelers game was Herm’s fault. Not Doug Brien, I’ll go to my grave with that thought. You don’t play for 45-yard FGs in January at Heinz Field.

I’m not much of a Knicks fan now, and I know you’re young, but the left-handed John Starks dunk against the Bulls will forever live in infamy. That was an insane moment. The LJ 4-point play was like some out-of-body stuff too.

Oh, and this being the Mets thread….Lenny Dykstra’s HR against Dave Smith in game 3 will always be my favorite Mets moment. Even more than winning the series. I was 9, he was my favorite player and it was really the first “walk-off” HR I had ever seen in a playoff game. The Ray Knight HR in game 7 was awesome too. Like, the moment I knew we had it.

The Daniel Murphy run in the ‘15 playoffs was great too. Still can’t believe we made not one effort to resign him. A homegrown player at that too. The Pratt HR against the D-Backs was awesome. I was in college in a house with like 7 other Mets fans. We went nuts. Finley was such a great CFer and when he made that frown, we all knew he didn’t catch it.

What I loved most about Pennington is that he could take the heat of plsying in NY in losses. He had his teammates backs. If someone fumbled or dropped a pass in a key moment late, he would deflect blame away from them and towards himself by pointing out his own mistakes. He was smart enough to run a complex offense where you often threw to secondary and tertiary receivers. California offense, right? When he was injured, they signed Testaverde, who was a completely different QB type. Offensive coach Bradshaw refused to change the offense even though it wasn't suited to Vinnie. I loved Chad though, but I flush most Jet seasons and games from memory because most of it is not good.

What was nuts about Pennington is that he was from the same draft as Brady and had a very solid, albeit injury-plagued, career…but he was effectively out of the league after the 2008 season (played 4 combined games the next 2 seasons) and actually out of the league after the 2010 season.

Then Brady is playing at the highest level 12 seasons later! Wild.

Oh, and happy the Mets got the Dodgers!

Assuming he’s going to get 3 innings here. Maybe 4. Then Peterson to finish?
I didn’t hear anyone “commit” to that but that is most likely the plan. Someone mentioned this (I can’t remember who) but to your point that would make Peterson available for games 4 and 5 in more long relief role.

We need a lefty in the pen. A little odd to turn a top 5 starter in the NL this year into this kind of long-relief guy though. But it’s working😂

If Mets keep advancing, it’s very possible Senga could get to 7 innings by his last start. Imagine that?! It would just add to the legend of this season.

If Brooks Raley stayed healthy he’d be that guy. With good reason the Manager and everybody else doesn’t trust our lefthanded options. If they did Peterson would probably be starting Game 3 or 4.

Of course, with lefty hitting Ohtani and Freeman I imagine Peterson in a big spot gets the call.

Edit: Right on Queue Peterson being interviewed on MLB network live from Citifield.

I thought I also read somewhere Dodgers hit lefties better than any other MLB team
Very deep team with good platoon guys to bring up the #s (and of course Betts and Teoscar Hernandez), but most of their monsters fair better against RHP.

Ohtani is .322 v RHP (42 homers) and .288 v LHP in almost 2 to 1 plate appearances

Muncy is hitting .172 against LHP but with slightly more power

Freeman is .300 v RHP and .250 v LHP with almost identical power

I’ll take that over Machado and Tatis Jr. hitting from the right side!

I will never forget that run in ‘93 by the Islanders. Forget how drama packed the Caps series was and how Dale effin Hunter became a villian, I had my first—um—experience during that series and game 7 against the Pens I was hanging out on Deer Park Ave because I was at that age where hanging out was more important than watching sports but my underage self left my friends, snuck into Bennigan’s, and I was in there when David Volek snapped that Ray Ferraro pass in to send us to the Conference Finals. lol, might have been on another planet at the time but wow that was a feeling and a half. I also went to game 6 at the Coliseum and that was one of my favorite live games ever.

That Canadians series was a lot closer than it looks on paper now but if we had Turgeon at that point (and granted, our spirit in light of his injury might have spurred us past the heavily favored Pens) I think we would have been in the Finals that year.
We used to have season tickets back then. I remember my dad getting into trouble with my mom because the game went to double over time and it was before cell phones so he didn’t call to say we would be home very late.
