Mets 2024 Season

Dodgers are the team I want to play. Their pitching is especially in trouble since they’ve faced starting pitcher injuries (Stone, Glasgow, Paxton out for season), Buehler still doesn’t look like himself at all, and Yamamoto looks like a rookie. Flaherty is good but not scary. So the bullpen usage/opener stuff will be prominent in that series.

Padres are the one team that can say is hotter than us.

Dodgers also very lefty-heavy with their hitting. Padres stars are almost all righty.

Dodgers are the better matchup. Let’s hope for extra innings Dodgers win.

Game 5 woulda been tomorrow. But, yeah watching some stress free baseball is relaxing. The AL teams just don’t hit. Padres/Dodgers should be fire tomorrow night.

And we would have been in Philly against Wheeler with 2-3 innings from Senga and no Peterson. How in the world do we fill 6-7 innings without Reed and Peterson?! It would have been the Megill show.

The way things are going I still think we would’ve won. Thank god we don’t have to put our belief to the test. 🤣

No fear! The most talented Mets team in history? No. The most confident, together Mets team in 50 years? Sure looks like it.

Such an easy team to root for and be proud of. They've already defied likely outcomes three times in the last month.

Would love to see Diaz slapping his glove on his thigh as he strides in from the bullpen, the way Tug confidently did in 73 and beyond. It said to himself and fans, "I got this."

Ya Gotta Believe. These Mets sure do, in themselves and in their fans.

Maybe, just maybe this is a team of destiny.

I keep referencing the unlikelihood of this run. Think back to the deadline last year. The Mets announce the Scherzer trade and both parties disclose there was a meeting about the direction of the team.

In that meeting they mutually agree a trade is best because in not so many words the team is punting on 2024 and he only has so many years left in his career. So in the year where they were being questioned if they even had intentions to win they are in the NLCS. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!?

This team has obviously been fun to root for. They seem like a bunch of good guys and appreciate the moment.

Lindor is all you can ask for from your “face of the franchise.” Leadership, calm, no moment too big, all while playing the most important position in the IF.

Then you have Nimmo, who is a Met lifer. He loves being here and has become another spokesperson by the way he eloquently expresses the pure emotion and meaning behind this ride, and it resonates with us fans.

And of course we have an owner who is not only wealthy, but gives a really gives a sh*t. Aside from the spending, he has changed the culture of the organization. It is first class now. Citifield is a home for the fans. The viewing parties during the away games were a great idea.

This team, no matter where it ends, will be my all time favorite Met team (supplanting the 1999 version).

Crap this was a long winded post. I really wanted to just bring up the last part and list one favorite “team” from each sport, in no particular order:

Mets 2024

Giants 2011 — They won the SuperBowl, but it was how they accomplished it. Manning was superb in the playoffs. The punishment he took in the SF game and the way he delivered, was legendary and bad a**.

Islanders 1993 — Much like the Mets, that was a great run to the semis, and and out of nowhere, including beating Lemieux’s Penguins along the way in OT. If Dale Hunter did not assault Turgeon and the league not openly root for Montreal, they may have won the cup that year.

Knicks 1991 — This was a hard one, but picking last year would have been an easy cop out. That team was as tough as tough could be. Riley became coach, and XMan became the vocal leader. No one drove the lane - including Jordan - without getting bruised and cracked. Took the Bulls to game seven.

Just moments before game 4 started some kids called out to Li dor. Gor the next 3 or 4 minutes he graciously and warmly signed autographs like it was spring training. Cool guy.

I will never forget that run in ‘93 by the Islanders. Forget how drama packed the Caps series was and how Dale effin Hunter became a villian, I had my first—um—experience during that series and game 7 against the Pens I was hanging out on Deer Park Ave because I was at that age where hanging out was more important than watching sports but my underage self left my friends, snuck into Bennigan’s, and I was in there when David Volek snapped that Ray Ferraro pass in to send us to the Conference Finals. lol, might have been on another planet at the time but wow that was a feeling and a half. I also went to game 6 at the Coliseum and that was one of my favorite live games ever.

That Canadians series was a lot closer than it looks on paper now but if we had Turgeon at that point (and granted, our spirit in light of his injury might have spurred us past the heavily favored Pens) I think we would have been in the Finals that year.

Jets?

Knicks 1969/1970. Willis reed hobbles onto court for game 7 & inspires team & crowd.
He had sat out game 6 & chamberlain had a monster game, 45 pts & 27 reb. Frazier dominates game 7.

In my time…the ‘02 year with Pennington leading them to the division win slightly beats the Vinny ‘98 team. Even though the Vinny team made it further, that ‘02 year was so unexpected and the Packers game to end the season and the Colts playoff game were both magical.

Have to put the first two Rex years up there too. People forget but Sanchez beat Rivers, Roelithsberger, Brady and Manning in the playoffs in their houses. And, go back and look, he played above average to great in all 4 of them. It’s sad to say but the win in Foxboro in the Divisional round is my favorite win of all time. I had partials for like 9 years and I saw them kick our asses so many times…just so satisfying to see Greene score that TD and go to sleep on the ball. That team was fun.

For being in born in ‘97, my all time fav teams are a lot “sadder”

Fav Mets team - this one without a doubt, finish the job and they’ll probably be my favorite sports team of all time, period. They are close as is.

Jets - my first year as a football fan, I was very young maybe only 7-8 years old? The jets made the playoffs and should have advanced but their kicker missed two kicks against the Steelers late. My first real sports heartbreak there. But I loved that team. I loved Santana Moss. Other than that, beating the patriots and making the AFC championship in back to back seasons around 09-10 was the peak for me. The Pats in game particular best jets win ive ever watched. But conversely the AFCCG losses to the Colts and Steelers were both excruciating as we had a shot in both

Rangers - the Rags have given me a lot of great playoff runs in my lifetime, more than any other team I like. My favorite was our surprise run to the ECF in 2022 because my dad and I were in the building for our comeback game 7 win over the Pens in round 1. Panarin overtime goal was probably most memorable thing I’ve seen live at a game

Knicks - last season, easily. As a big Sixers hater that round 1 victory meant a lot more to me than just advancing to the eastern conference semis. But the COVID year where we came out of nowhere but lost to the hawks in round 1 was a personal fav of mine. It meant so much to shifting the culture of the Knicks.

St John’s - the DLo, Pointer, Greene senior season, Lavs last season, still my top one. D’Angelo Harrison was my Michael Jordan when I was in high school. I was obsessed with the guy. As I’m sure my posts here during those years reflected. As much as I loved that team I’m looking forward to a SJU team (this year maybe?) coming along and winning a tournament game or more, cementing themselves as the best Johnnie team of my time as a fan
