I think you're right since it happens with the red shirt football players more often.he's not graduating early, right? Maybe some summer classes gets him the graduate provision and we haven't heard about it yet? I have no idea, just throwing it out there.Unless he can prove some hardship I would imagine Max would have to go D2 or lower. Otherwise he'd have to sit out another year and then have just one remaining. Of course this is all pending him actually transferring.
I think that only applies if you graduate with your class. Not if you graduate early. Could be wrong but it's specifically called the 5th year graduate transfer provision I think.
