Max Hooper

He has a rep for being a great shooter. Looks like he only played two games last year. Also looks as though he went to a familiar prep school by the name of Brewster

He is like best friends with Karr.

I am pretty sure they were roomies in 2010-11. Max is a pure shooter in the Mullin mold but not very physical. A zone buster for sure.

Why him and not Bernardi?

Hooper is 4 inches taller I believe.

I guess you forgot Bernardi is still signed and sealed with SMU.

Great highlight reel...

I like that the kid's shot (minus layups) is the same everytime. Its smooth and consistent rather he is standing in the wing waiting for the kickout, coming off a dribble, coming off of a pick/screen or even on that one fade away near the elbow towards the beginning of the clip. Wondering if I am seeing it through rose-colored glasses as I know we really need a shooter to compliment Harrison. As long he doesn't turn out to be Heath Orvis who I believe was touted as a shooter too, I think this could be a nice addition.

I always hate comparing but it was the first thing that came to mind. Pretty sure Heath was even a McAA candidate before he showed up, but his HS scoring just didn't translate into BE play.

LOL It's funny you mentioned Heath Orvis. I chuckled to myself earlier and said, if this was Jarvis going after this kid, then this would be Heath Orvis. I know anything is possible, but I doubt this staff goes after a kid the semblance of Orvis.

I'm pretty confident in saying, Hooper is nothing like Orvis.

Don't you dare mention heath orvis on here. BTW there are a couple thousand mcd candidates each year. Doesnt take much to get nominated

Max is around 6'7 and has been a 3 point specialist forever. I think he played at Mater Dei for a year with Rheinhart (sp?) whom offered before he selected UNLV. They are similar players but Rheinhart supposedly scores in many different ways while Max is basically a zone buster. Tha connection to Karr is the key IMO.

Seems like with such a quick offer jakaar may gave some inside info!! Is he mentioned with only us? Reminds of Jimmy chipwood

Exactly, gman. There are tons of Mickey D's-AA candidates each season. I recall seeing that list a few years ago, and took a look at the list for SC. It gave me a good chuckle. There were guys on that list who I knew wouldn't have qualified for the Chuck E. Cheese All-American game.

Heck! I was on the list and I didn't even play high school basketball. LOL Just kidding!

pretty sure i like a 6'7" three point threat. if he can pass that makes him even sweeter of a pick up because they'll have to either stay mismatched with shorter guards on him or pull someone out of the front court to cover him and if he can move the ball around it will really open up the paint for our slashers and big men.

so many pieces of the puzzle floating around on the message boards. i can't wait for them to start falling into place (aka verbals or LOI's)

I know that.
My point is, Bernardi was much more highly recruited and a local kid.
Why not offer him last year?

It goes to show that recruiting is fluid. I'm sure they didn't particularly feel a need for Bernardi during that time.

I don't get it.
We already have 2 studs his size (Garrett and Pointer).
This kid couldn't even play for Harvard.

Dont put too much weight into that, he can play

this guy must be going pro, if not, why would you ever transfer out of Harvard??????

interesting how many people (myself included) may have such esteemed stereotypes of "Harvard" and "Ivy League" while there are of course many OTHER decent, fine schools; and the student such as Hooper also has to find a good fit…Harvard(or any other single institution) is not the "end all-be all"…trasnfers are much more common today it seems, there are so many alternatives and options and who, but the shadow, knows what's going on with this young man's life…I guess we might find out.

all the best

Maybe he just wants a shot at playing in the Elite Eight, Final Four, etc, and, being a Harvard man, he's astute enough to know that STJ is the place that will get him there!

Wonder if this is any way connected to borgault?

Both would have the same role but connected?? What do you mean?

I think he means would one coming hurt the chances of the other. 1 class apart after sitting out and all that.

Please don't compare to Orvis. Hooper was an All Cali player believe. Hit 313 treys at Mater Dei and shot 50% from three there. He's also 6'6". He will fill a big need for us wich is outside shooting. If we offered him, Im pretty much sure the deal is sealed.  More Kyle Kuric than Heath Orvis.
