@DalyDoseOfHoops
Mustapha Heron on going into Big East play undefeated: “We’ve been thinking about that since the season started, but we’re taking it one game at a time. We didn’t look past tonight.” #SJUBB

LJ Figueroa on differences between JUCO and Division I: “In a way, it’s a lot quicker and stronger, but if you want to play the game, you’ll play with anybody. It’s really not that much of a difference. These players make the game a lot easier.” #SJUBB

Mustapha Heron on LJ Figueroa’s range: “Y’all seen it. He works it on it every day...that’s the result of the work.” #SJUBB

Not too many players bring it at every game and practice like LJ from what I hear.

You laugh but we got outscored by 3 in the 2nd half. I doubt we win a BE game all season.
We may not win again this season. I may jump off a bridge.
There's no way we win another game this year. If only we could've won the second half by 1.
Which bridge are you jumping off? I'm thinking the Niagara Falls bridge.

They trailed late against a Cal team that will be a bottom PAC12 team. Got very lucky against VCU. Trailed in the 2nd half against Bowling Green. And tonight the fact they need their starters in late in the 2nd half after a lot of sloppy play against a terrible team is not good.

It hopefully will get better but I'm sorry this has been very unimpressive so far this year. Sone good individual performances no doubt but collectively not a great by any stretch.
I guess some people are just never going to be happy. What exactly do you want from this team? Do you expect them to win every game by 50points?
You can't be serious with this post? Did you read what I wrote?
Yes I did, and here is the jist of it: You are NOT impressed by anything this team has done yet this year (other then a small stretch). So my question is this. What exactly would they need to do to impress you? Win each game by 50?

Imho, especially where the program's been in recent years, there is nothing the least bit disappointing about 6-0. Yes, we need to tighten up our 3 point defense and Clark needs to stop with the silly fouls but we are where we need to be at this point and if we win Saturday we have an excellent chance of being undefeated going into BE play. I'll take that all day long.

I can name several recent SJU teams including last year's team that would be 6-0 against this schedule at this point. It is not about being disappointed or not liking being 6-0. That is a red herring. Did anyone realistically think SJU would or should be anything less than 6-0 at this point? Name me the team so far that you think is an NCAA team they have played so far? Forget that how about NIT team? Maybe VCU is an NIT team, maybe...

Damn..I was close

You sure were. We did a lot of things well especially on offense but once again let a team shoot over 40% from three. Andino single handedly kept them within sight. Shouldn't happen and will kill us against better teams if we don't tighten up defending the three.
I thought they defended the 3 well in the first half. They got a little bit softer in the second half. I think Clark fouling out hurt us on our D in the second half. I think once Keita is back and having Clark in the game we'll be ok... I think it's hard to give 100 on D when they were up by so much. They definitely let up a bit. It happens to plenty of teams when they have a really large lead. They kept it close to 20 most of the half. I think we'll be set once Keita is back.

Nothing good comes from these games. Other team stunk we played crappy but that happens. Hopefully standing around hoisting threes does not carry over. I take nothing from this game at all. Good or bad.

Even worse, it is a pink herring. That is why I am so pissed, we should be 8-0. Plus that, they held us under 120 points tonight. WTF?

Per @DalyDoseOfHoops
Chris Mullin: “I thought our defense was a little lackadaisical, but like I said, overall it was a pretty good performance. At one of the timeouts, we had two assists, so I was just concerned about being unselfish.” #SJUBB

It may have been mention in a previous post (I'm to lazy to scroll trough all of them), but my biggest disappointment about tonights offense was constant settling for a 3 point shot and the lack of dribble drive & kick concept. My Lord, it was sooooo scary to me that this will haunt down the road. I see many other college teams run some version of our offense and every player that receives a pass attacks the gap in the zone, but NOT us!

Take the win and move on. No injuries and Dixon continues to show improvemnt on both ends of the court. Ponds played distributed the ball all game. We ran very few sets for Ponds. Lets get some good days of practice in and prepare for the game on Saturday. Just win the games!!!!!

His presence alone has me confident that, if Ponds and Heron bolt (as most expect them to) , next year at least won't be as bad a season as Mullin's first. Of course, that's not the standard we should be holding this team by, but I did have that concern going into this year.

Dixon is making me more of a believer with every game, too.
What I have never understood is why talented players would choose to go to loaded teams such as Duke, and sit on the bench, instead of choosing hungry teams such as SJU and get immediate playing time.
And why are the guys on our bench not getting PT at FDU? And so on...

That's a tough one. I mean The Golden Gate is a bit too cliche, so maybe the Mackinac or the Verrazano. If i do the Verrazano, perhaps they could send Mike Z to talk me off the ledge

I would jump just to get away from him.

Man you sound like a lame. FYI last year’s team lost to Rutgers at Rutgers and this year we blew them out. So no, last year’s team ( which struggled against St. Joseph’s and Grand Canyon) would not be undefeated at this time; Do I have to go back to the year before with the losses to LIU and Deleware State ( would they be undefeated as well)? Or the year before that with the 32 point loss to St. Thomas Aquinas( division two)?

You get the point?
Why does the 2nd half matter to any of you? We were winning by almost 30 points late in the 1st half.

What does this game have to do with any other game this season? What does this game have to do when we play Seton Hall or Villanova in February? Is Ponds gonna think about the 6 points he scored tonight when he’s sitting at the line with 30 seconds remaining in a close BE game? Is anyone on the Tourney committee gonna scratch their head and say “you know what? This team got outscored in the 2nd half against whatever this team is called.”

This game means nothing. They won easily. Effing relax. Cry if we lose to DePaul or Providence. I’m getting sick of this “woe is us” crap.
You do realize that we had a 26pnt lead in the 1st half, they cut it to 15, with a few chances to cut it to 13.
I could see maybe getting it cut to 20 or even 19pnts, but not being in position to cut our lead in half.
Only one i seen going hard the whole games is LJ, I liked that rebound off his own FT miss in the 2nd half.
The 98-99 team were assassins, this team isn't.

Whatever On to Ga Tech

Based on limited action my observations are : Roberts is not ready yet for Big East play on either defense or offense. He may be forced into late game action because of foul trouble but that is all. Williams will see limited minutes at best. His defense is ahead of his offense. Earlington will see no run.

Earlington's jumper is going to kill someone.
