Maryland Eastern Shore, Tue. Nov. 27, 6:30p, FS1 / 970 WNYM

Funny pre-game moment on TV

staff/players giving last minute hand slaps...Mullin sitting on bench puts hand backward thinking someone behind or to side would see it and slap...

After a few seconds, no one saw his hand so he eventually pulls it back and slaps it himself with his other hand...

Camera just happened to zoom in on him as it went down.

Too funny...

Lot of bright spots and areas needing work. Clark & Simon need to elevate their games if we want to be tourney ready.

Rotating games of Ponds, LJ and Heron isnt enough.

Dixon looks confident from perimeter and passing. Encouraging.

One good thing about the ongoing debates is that we got a good long look at both Roberts and Williams. You can see the game is really fast for them and I don't mean physically. Williams closer. Roberts also needs to learn how to set a screen. The new emphasis on feet being no further apart then shoulders and I thought he'd get called on it a few times but didn't. I hope both of them continue to work hard and get more PT before 2019.

It's actually silly to bring up any of the past teams and whether they'd be 6-0 this point. Anything can happen on any given night against any ANY team. Just like last year when we beat Duke and Nova in the same week. It doesn't mean this years team could have done the same thing, just because on paper we're a better team. So just enjoy being 6-0. It doesn't matter how we win, it matters that we win. Like myself and others have stated before, we have this uncanny knack for playing down to our opponents.

Yeah, it seems Roberts is too focused on cutting to the basket and not a setting the screen.

What a friggin' nightmare.
You laugh but we got outscored by 3 in the 2nd half. I doubt we win a BE game all season.
We may not win again this season. I may jump off a bridge.
There's no way we win another game this year. If only we could've won the second half by 1.
Which bridge are you jumping off? I'm thinking the Niagara Falls bridge.
That's a tough one. I mean The Golden Gate is a bit too cliche, so maybe the Mackinac or the Verrazano. If i do the Verrazano, perhaps they could send Mike Z to talk me off the ledge
I would jump just to get away from him.
That legit made me laugh out loud..

Just jokes MZ.. no need for how it's ok for some people to constantly attack certain posters.
I am glad to be of service, just trying to make light of all the complaining.
You'd mock people for expressing any concern if our team was stranded on North Sentinel Island.

Obviously glad to be 6-0, but we have not been playing well as a team and our chemistry is not there yet. We still do not have a clear plan and we have absolutely no idea how to stop 3's. Don't be blinded and misled by a 6-0 record. As someone else said, the 1 game that really stood out to me as a nice solid win was the Rutgers game being away and playing great as a whole team. Other than that, what win was unexpected to this point? We forced VCU into a zillion turnovers and still could not put them away until the last second of OT. We got scared crapless by Bowling Green who is terrible and squeaked one out. Cal is godawful and looked like a legitimate NCAA team against us...again we barely escaped. In the 2nd half today we looked lost and MES looked legitimate especially from 3 (they usually shoot 13-18% or so vs. 40%+ vs. us). You can only win off talent alone for so long and I think that's what some are concerned about. If you go to opposing fan forums during these games, they are all shocked acting like their team is having a career night against us. VCU, Cal, BG, etc. You will see a lot of "omg he didn't hit a 3 all year and he's 5-6 tonight against St. John's". That's not a good sign.

I'm still cautiously optimistic, but we have tons of flaws and a ton to work on for a team in year 4 with by far the best talent in the Big East. No need to condemn those who are not yet buying the Johnny stock. Let's see if we can beat GT and conference play will be the real barometer. Many including myself have bought the stock before and it crashed and burned. Also don't count on Keita being back anytime soon if at all...if you're a Mets fan or know who LoVett is, you know better than to expect anything regarding returning from injury. 6-0 is nice but it wasn't supposed to be this hard either.

I was at the arena tonight and thought there was some positives. Figueroa continues to be very impressive on both ends of the floor. His energy level was really high and his talent and athleticism are both outstanding. He practically had a double double (sixteen points and nine rebounds) only 18 minutes into the game. His addition to St. John's is a testament to the great work on the recruiting trail done by Matt A.

Mikey Dixon had his best game of the year so far. He played within the flow and team concept effectively. He shot the ball really well, made some excellent passes, ran the floor with gusto and played some good defense. He is growing as the season moves on and will be an important part of the rotation going forward.

Shamorie Ponds was looking to be a pass first point guard tonight and that was not necessarily a bad thing. While he carried us at the Barclay Center last week making shot after clutch shot, tonight he looked to set up his teammates to score and really shot very little. In my opinion Ponds' versatility and ability to use different approaches can only serve the team well in the long run.

The game was a blowout early and Maryland Eastern Shore was not a dfficult test for us. In the second half St. John's did not play at a high level and there was a letdown by the team on both ends of the court. That said I am hopeful we will put two strong halfs together more often than not this season.

There is certainly work to be done but we have quite a bit of talent and have started out 6 and 0. We should get better and hopefully be ready and able to be an upper tier team in the Big East by the end of December.

Gotta love Fiqueroa's efforts to grab offensive rebounds. What a pickup!
Want to see more "give and go" on our fast break transition instead of throwing up quick threes.
Clark picking up too many fouls.
Dixon looking better and better.
Nice to see Ponds play under control in an blowout win but I would prefer he be more offensive minded.
Interesting that Jim Jackson thinks we have the best starting lineup in the Big East.

Some random thoughts:
By the time Andino got going, the game was over. I thought the team did a good job on him in the first half, and opened up a big lead.
One thing Mullin does is let his team play through bad streaks and mistakes. Other coaches don't. I prefer the latter approach.
I like what I see of Williams. Even in the last minutes of a blowout., he plays team ball. Earlington, on the other hand, wants to shoot everything.
Lack on an inside presence will limit our ceiling.
There is something not right with Clark. His stroke is just off, and reaching tons on defense. He is a better player than that.
LJ picks his sports so well. Rarely out of control. Very team oriented. I love that Ponds, who left LJ begging for the ball against VCU, made getting him the ball a priority tonight.

I will always enjoy hearing Bruce Beck on channel 4 news leading into a St Johns win on the news at 11

If Clark fouls out this early in the game against these patsies, what’s going to happen against BE centers? Has to play a lot smarter being our only big. Any word on Keita? Sure could use him. Figgy is going to be a fan favorite. Onto GT.

Lastly that 2009-10 Norm Roberts team that was 6-0 to start the season: LIU, St. Bonnies, Brown, Siena, Temple and Stony Brook. Siena was in the midst of winning their 3rd straight MAAC title under Fran McCaffery, Temple was an NCAA team. The first loss was to Duke 80-71 who went on to win the whole thing that year. Could that team have gone 6-0 against this schedule? I think so? How about Lavin's last two teams, yeah I think so.

Come on. 6-0 is 6-0. But for too much of these games they are not playing at a high level. It's one thing to be winning by 25 against Xavier and then they make some shots and the lead goes down to 11-12. But they need to bury these bad teams not look up with 10 minutes left and they scored 11 points in the 2nd half and the lead has essentially been cut in half and your starters are still in the game. That's all.
We beat the National Champs last year when we sucked. So I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make.
We didn't do anything. My point is a SJU team that finished 6-12 in the BE and had their coach fired after the season was good enough to start 6-0 against a more difficult schedule then the one SJU is playing now for those who argued that there aren't many recent SJU teams that could be 6-0 against this schedule. I disagreed.
We are 6-0 and we haven't really played well. The reason for optimism is clearly the talent is there to be good. You could never say that with a Mullin team until now and could never say that of a Norm team until the year he left.
Despite the lack of a pure PG this team is as talented at the 1-2-3 as any STJ team I can remember in the last almost 20 years. The last threesome that might compare was Barkely/Bootsy/Lavor. the team may be lacking at the 4/5, but the extra 2 3s in the starting lineup are pretty good too. Still hate the offensive system, which I found offensive. Watched a bunch of different folks try to flash in the lane and get ignored. Need to add that to make the system watchable. Given the lack of competition they should still go undefeated going into league play but they'll still need to win 12 or more in conference to get a bid. So I hope the talent win out and the lack of a frontcourt doesn't bite them in the ass but say what you want about Simon and Clark,, they don't bring anywhere near the complimentary play of Artest/Ty, not even AG/Jessie in 99/00.

Not sure what you mean there but I'd mock anyone who has shown concern for that Jacktard that got killed there. LOL

Agree, enjoyed tonite game but anyone can see we will get killed when we star playing against big talented forwards . Jones was killing us and appeared to score whenever he wanted. Need a big body to advance Letting someone score 8. 3s is crazy whoever guards him always fall off when they should have just stayed on him
Hope Keira returns we need him badly

Yeah, hope Keita makes it back for BE play. Not sure they'll need him before then but it would be nice if he could get a couple more games in before facing BE competition.

Why do we have a complaint thread, it seems like there is always discontent with something. WE HAVE A COMPLAINT THREAD TO PUKE IN;
Btw figgy is best player on the team ive said this before, furthermore he had a clean block under the basket that official scorer missed. The guy does all the little things well like going up with his left hand to block a shot on his left side. Something Patrick ewing never learned....
Definitely our most complete player, he plays both sides. He also makes the right choices and doesn't try to get too cute. There was one play on the fast break he made a simple bounce pass to dixon for the layup and it was great because we arent a guarantee on fast breaks for some reason. Definitely the highest BB IQ on the team the kid just gets it and understands winning basketball.

This board if we beat duke:

“It’s a sloppy win over a painfully inexperienced duke team with a bunch of freshmen who are too young. Shamorie is too selfish for this team, and his 47 points and step back game winner with Zion Williamson guarding him is an embarrassment to this school, cause he didn’t even look for his teammates”

The only thing painful will be watching Clark try to handle Zion while Zion drives to the basket. Can I hear "and one"!
