Marquette (MSG), Sat., Jan. 20, 12 Noon, FOX

You make it sound like winning all those games will be easy. They will all be close games and so far we don’t fare well in close games. Also between injury and illness who knows what the hell else will happen to impede the development of this team.
It was hope more than a certainty .

Biggest problem was the screen and roll. Game changed when Taylor guarded Kolek. Jenkins was guarding him too long on second half.
That has killed us all season. It killed us in the Dayton game with DaRon Holmes, it killed us in the UConn game with Samson Johnson , it killed us in the Creighton game with Kalkbrenner and it killed us today with Ighodaro. Four losses because we can’t defend the pick and roll. That tells you that this team just doesn’t learn.

Game was lost in first half when Marquette was 0 for 9 from 3 and throwing the ball away and totally pathetic on offense. we tried to match their ineptitude, which wasn't possible. Marquette begged us to give them the afternoon off, but we didn't capitalize. Once only down 6 at the half, the handwriting was on the wall.

Wilcher is slowly but surely contributing. If he can steadily get better, that’s a good development for this team as we need another ball handler.

As much as I’m someone disappointed in Dingle this year, this game did punctuate how important he is even if he’s underperforming.

Ledlum on defense on the perimeter is a turnstile. That’s a matchup every team will continue to hunt for.

Yeah, Marquette purposely left Jenkins open with two seconds left in the game. Ok
You’re right. Joel Soriano was just too quick to handle and broke free then found a wide open Jenkins standing on the 3 pt line because of a defensive lapse. Marquette was powerless!

It had nothing to do with forcing the ball to a center that never has the ball in his hands at that part of the court and playing off a 30% 3 pt shooter in a one point game.

Nope. Marquette was just going to take what we shoved down their throats.

Every coach in America wants a 3 pointer from a guy who is shooting 30% when they are down 1.

Reality is we shouldn't have even had a chance in this game. At this point we've lost the close games we should have lost - got lucky catching UConn without Clingan, got lucky Creighton was ice cold from 3 - should have lost that game by double figures, and got outplayed by Marquette for the vast majority of this game. We also won the close game we should have won - We outplayed Providence most of that game and their shot to win at the end didn't fall.

We are what we've been the whole time - a bubble team. 4-1 start had us thinking perhaps we were above that but that just isn't the case. Every game is going to be of utmost importance because our margin of error is so thin.

Rest of the season we have 4 games that we should win that we HAVE to win with the home & aways vs DePaul and GTown. Lose one of those and you can buy your tickets for an NIT game at Carnesecca.

Toss ups vs Nova, vs SHU, vs Creighton, and @Butler
Underdogs with a puncher's chance @Xavier and @Prov
Shocked if we win vs UConn or @MQ

Assuming we take all 4 vs DePaul and GTown we need 4 of the 6 of the toss up/underdog games to get to 12 and be comfortable going into BET. Tall task

Agree. This game was lost in that first 14….we just almost crawled back from the dead which is making us forget
there’s no conceivable way to make the argument that the game was lost in the first 14 minutes of the second half when we:

1) had a FT attempt to tie from Jenkins - miss
2) 3pt from Jenkins for the lead - miss
3) 3pt from Luis for the lead - miss
4) 3pt from Ledlum for the lead - miss
5) 3pt from Jenkins for the win - miss

5 different opportunities to tie or take lead

That’s what you’re complaining about? Jenkins’ shot at the end is about the best we could have hoped for
Completely disagree. Throwing the ball to Soriano and watching him take two dribbles on an assinine scale of 1-10 was an 11. After Soriano gets the ball, your options are limited. You get the ball to Jenkins on a fast inbounds he races down the court, drives into the lane to draw a foul or kick out for a better shot. Horrific last play.

Signature wins so important in BE play. Between ranked UConn, Creighton and M’Q we are 0 & 3. Avoiding a sweep to each something to avoid, but challenging the way all three play offensively.
I’m not sure we have the talent to get a signature win. More likely we have to really beat up on the bad teams and win some close games against teams in the middle.

We are at risk of being swept by 3-4 teams now.

If Brady makes one shot as well.

Dunlap is 2-10 over last four games from three. He does do some semblance of small things on the court and hustles, I understand why Pitino loves him. I do think we have to set him up for better looks. His shooting is an x-factor for us, but the only way he can be activated is by coming off a screen or kick out

How things change: Joel was getting national attention not so long ago & seemed our rock, Dingle was expected to be that savvy experienced shooter to lead our offense, Luis a possible All BE level guy, our depth would prevail and we would evolve by BE play into an excellent defensive team.

Never assume until a third of the BE season to realize what you really have. Even w a HOA HC, we seem to have many holes, mediocre chemistry and have to really overachieve to sneak in the Dance. Sorry, just my sense of things, not panic.
